Three more albums for Girls Aloud

 

Girls Aloud have announced they have signed a new deal with their record label Fascination, promising three more albums - including one next year.

 

Recent newspaper reports had suggested that the group may be on the verge of breaking up, as the five members pursued independent projects.

 

Following her successful stint as an X Factor judge, Cheryl Cole is expected to launch a TV career in the US.

 

She is also reported to be working on collaborations with Will.i.am and Mika.

 

Sarah Harding will star in BBC banking drama Freefall, which airs in April, and Kimberley Walsh, who will join Cole climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief in March, is also interested in an acting career.

 

They have been nominated at the Brits for best group and best British single for their chart-topping track, The Promise.

 

Girls Aloud were created through ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 and have become one of the most successful British pop groups of the decade.

 

They have notched up a string of 20 consecutive top ten singles, including four number ones, and five albums.

 

Fascination is part of Polydor records, an arm of Universal.

 

Well there goes the conspiracy theory shot out of the water of The Saturdays being groomed to replace Girls Aloud (they are both on the same record label), as Girls Aloud were going to split after finishing their existing contract..... What do you think of this announcement?

Meh, who cares. :heehee: They've done alright really.

We already knew about the new 3 album contract for weeks, but yeah it's great news :cheer:

 

And about the Saturdays, those would have NEVER emerged without the help of GA because :

1. The money put into the whole The Saturdays project comes from GA success (GA is the only huge act of Fascination making big money for the label)

2. Supporting GA on their last massive arena tour has got them so many fans.

I'm glad they'll be sticking around, I feel the pop world wouldn't be the same without them somehow.

Tbh, (just thinking), I can't imagine any of them having solo careers when they split up? Or is that just me..

Nah, I can't either. I think Nadine has the talent to pull it off but I think Cheryl is the only one big enough to get people to buy into a solo career, but she's not talented enough. I really love "Memory Of You" though, which is basically Kimberley on her own.

Perhaps, but maybe now they've hit a round 20 consecutives they're not as concerned. I hope they can keep it up still, but I doubt it if 'The Loving Kind' can only just scrape in.

 

As for the solo career thing, I think by now most people know the names of each girl and can identify them, so I think some of them could have at least a briefly successful solo career if they decided to. Cheryl would obviously stand the best chance, being the most media savvy member of the group.

 

I don't think Cheryl would stand the best chance. She has the worst voice of the lot on record (her bit in TLK - my god) and live she can't hold her own at all. She's not even attractive so I don't quite understand how she was picked for the group in the first place... still, it was her or Javine I suppose.

 

Nadine would obv have the best shot. The voice, the looks, and that fabulous accent where she may as well be speaking another language. She's the tits.

I much much much (infinitely) prefer Nadine to Cheryl, but sadly it doesn't always work solely based on talent, media and hype are more overpowering factors.

Indeed, but Nadine IS the second-biggest celeb in the group. She gets loads of tabloid coverage regarding her various relationships/living in LA etc.

Kimberley always has and always will be my fave GA member, both looks and personality wise. But there is no doubt Cheryl Cole is stunning either :wub: And Jark, like I said earlier, when I went to see GA live, a few year ago, Cheryl was good. But I do think Sarah has improved a HELL of alot vocally, since the Tangled Up era, as the more dancier, edgier stuff suits her voice alot more than the pure Pop stuff they used to do. So with the right songs, Sarah could be successful as a soloist I reckon...

I have to say, as much as I disliked Sarah previously, she's grown on me during the current era, she seems to have found a unique look that suits her, actually seems to serve some kind of purpose and shock horror, has found a personality. Let's hope that lasts.

Sarah's odd. Sometimes she looks lovely and sometimes she looks scarily skanky. Sometimes she's pleasingly 'I don't give one' and sometimes she's just TOO disengaged. Idk. She wouldn't have the drive to be a soloist probably. NADINE FTSW

Sarah vocally has improved quite a bit in the last few years, her solo in The Promise helps the song a lot. Cheryl vocally however has done the opposite. Kimberley is still rather hit and miss and Nadine, vocally is probably the best still IMO has no likeability. Nicola has possibly the group's second best vocal and therefore when the split does come, it'll be her solo stuff i'll be looking forward too.

I think Sarah (if they where all to have solo careers) would probably do the best!

 

Cheryl, as pointed out, cannot sing. I find Nadine can't sing to (I hate her accent :rofl: ). Kimberly constantly sings flat, and Nicola, whilst being the best singer in the group.. well I don't know.

Cheryl has quite naturally become the public's favourite.

She was never the front singer of the group, but the public has still chosen her as her favourite. People say she's the favourite because of the X Factor, but she was already the favourite before the X Factor (therefore Simon chose her).

So I think she would be the one to have the most successful solo career :) She's easily the best dancer/performer of the band, and her vocal ability is satisfying enough to have a solo pop career.

 

Though I don't want it to happen, stronger together ^_^ And I don't think Cheryl is interested in that either, she knows what it is like to be at the top of the music industry, so doing the same thing solo wouldn't be that exciting for her.

The media have only started to lick her ass because of Cole cheating on her. And then it's all, "brave Cheryl carries on with the show!".
