The only things i don't have a problem downloading are the download only bonus tracks. Most artists have them, and I don't mind downloading them if its the only way to get hold of a legitamate copy... but it pisses me off when iTunes (although i believe it's the record companies fault) stick tracks on albums as 'Album Only'. Tracks like that I go and download through other means.

I also think that Remix EPs are way to pricey :nono:

Disagreeing at the first bit. If a bonus track becomes available for single track d/l, it should not be a bonus track then. Bonus tracks are for those who bought the whole album. ;)

Remix EPs' prices must be lowered down, yeah.

i usually download an album illegally b4 buying the physical version...

But this has affected my buying habits, back in the late 90's and early 00's i used to buy 15 to 20 albums per month, now i illegally download 30 or more and i buy 5 to 10 CD albums monthly...which is half what i used to buy. But i still buy every CD released by my favourite 50 artists.

This is because illegal downloading is so easy (blogs , P2P services and public upload services), and you can get the tracks in the same quality as legal downloads, plus, since i live in Lebanon i can't get the same tracks legally as in the UK or th US.

I adore music, and i think illegal downloading is really bad for the music industry and there's no way to justify it... but it could be stopped... If record labels took drastic measures against P2P services and free music download blogs and other illegal services ... and i'm sure we will get there in 2 or 3 years time since it's easier and easier to track IP's and monitor illegal file movements..

Hopefully new measures will be made, and the recording industry will survive for a long long time !!!!!

But if I buy an album on CD (which i always do) that means that unless I download the whole album again I'm not able to get hold of the 'Album Only' bonus track legally.

An example would be Beyonces 'I Am...'. I bought the CD but would like to also get hold of her two bonus tracks. One of the tracks is on iTunes but I can't download it without buying the whole album again. I think it's a ridiculous rule. :(

Does anyone know what prices of albums and singles were like 5, 10, 20, 30 years ago? If you take inflation into account i'm sure that prices of music have decreased?

I know that in the late 60s an album cost approx £1.04.00 (£1.20) and a single around 7/- (35p)

If I was the owner of a record company, I'd make all single track downloads free, and reduce the price for albums.

Unfortunately the owner of a record company is only one fifth of a distrubitor (i.e. Universal, Disney etc.)...they all meet down the line and everything they do is for money.

If I was the owner of a record company, I'd make all single track downloads free, and reduce the price for albums.

And you will become bankrupt quite quickly :heehee:

Then you'd quickly go out of business - everyone would download the tracks one by one, so has to get them for nothing.

I don't think you thought that one through.

actually he said Single tracks, i think that means the one's that have been released and then make the rest of the album only download able by downloading the album.

that's crazy too.... nobody would bother buying anything anymore then..

I think I have. :heehee:

The lead single, get it out on radio + tv, promote it, and release it for free. People would download, become interested in it, and then would be more persuaded to purchase an album.

It's not like anyone benefits from single sales anyway, the record company + artist certainly don't. It's all about their tours...

Record companies do make money off sales. A lot.

What, single sales?

I use to have a breakdown of what money goes to where for a single (something like 35p goes to the record company), and this is for a physical single. So money from downloads would be incredibly less...
