This is gonna sound really stupid, but i need help gettin my wii online. Can i use a normal ethernet cable & do u have to have wireless internet as i'm still old skool with wired or do i need this lan adapter thingy, or is that only if u have wired internet. Also, is there a membership or joining fee. Any help, gladly appreciated ;)

You need the LAN adapter for only wired. You don't need it for wireless. :)
