My reasoning for this being a single is that it has the safest chance of keeping their top 10 run in tact. (let's not mention St. Trainian's again) A radio edit of something like "Love Is Pain" wouldn't be too drastic, but editing a 6 minute+ song is more likely to get people to buy something totally different to what they have on the album.

i've grown to be a fan in the last year or so and am pretty impressed with their career...but i just hate those vocoder effects, they are horrible

Why too drastic? I don't think it's much darker than this, and it's quite short already...

I think it will sail into the top ten but the real challenge will be scraping top 5 or top 3. All lies with the promotion strategy. And I also agree with the points Aaron has made, the single mix is in fact a vast improvement on the original and more appealing to the public. So I doubt the girls will go wrong with this, should be bigger than TLK too.

Yes and there is always the fans and their goals of continuing GA's consecutive top 10 streak so they'll do the promo if the record label messes up. :lol: Even with the harsh criticism and mess surrounding Long Hot Summer it still went on to peak at 7, so I highly doubt this won't go top ten. That is just irrational thinking.

The singles climate was a whole 'nother story back with Long Hot Summer. The Loving Kind sold a whole lot more than a lot of GA's singles yet struggled. It's not as easy to hit top 10 anymore.

I get where you're coming from but I think Untouchable in general is a much better single than TLK. And the radio mix is incredible, it's just one of those songs that aren't expected to do well but do because it is generally one of the artist's better releases. Much the same with 'Up' by The Saturdays following up from If This Is Love. It's a stronger single than TLK, which is why I think it will do better.

Yes, its much harder to get top 10 now than it was before. With all due respect, GA wouldnt have had a chance of top ten with songs like see the day and whole lotta history if the chart was like it is now back then.

 

Which is why this consecutive top ten thing is quite boring now. Because if untouchable misses top ten, on paper, it makes songs like whole lotta history look like bigger hits and thats just not right atall. Its all about total sales now.

 

CSF only made number 9 but isnt it like there 5th or 6th biggest selling song?

I think if TLK kind did it's job of selling the album, Untouchable won't do as well but i don't think TLK did sell the album that well therefore it has a chance to do better.

I expect the album to drop in price and do very well actually, i keep checking places for the price of OOC and its still more than £9 at most places.

 

They did exactly the same with CSF and tangled up.

- Madonna climbed up 7 places back when 'Give it 2 Me' was charting (The week she started her UK Tour)

- The Pussycat Dolls 'Whatcha think About That' climbed rapidly once their tour started.

- The Killers 'Human' and 'Spaceman' both benefitted from them starting their UK tour, and 'Mr Brightside' re-entered the iTunes 120 at around 72 (Coincidentaly at the start of their UK tour :P)

 

But maybe that's because they're generally more successful and are acts NOT from the UK...

I hope this has a chance for Top 10, I won't say it is a dead-cert after 'The Loving Kind' stalling at #10 so if this does make Top 10, considering it is amazing, well then happy days.

I still don't see the doubt that most of you people see in this not making top 10, yes it is harder these days but who would've thought PCD would go top 10 with WTAT a song that flopped in the US completely and especially after the critically aclaimed I Hate This Part, so will it really be THAT impossible for Untouchable to go top 10 after the critically aclaimed TLK only just scraped it. I think it sail into the top 10, regardless and it is generally a better single than TLK imo ..
