Posted March 6, 200916 yr Amazon offers number one single for 29p 15:58 | Thursday March 5, 2009 Source: MW By Ben Cardew Amazon is risking the wrath of the music industry with the launch of a new digital music promotion offering popular tracks, including the current number one, for just 29p. Amazon recently shook up the industry by selling successful albums from the likes of Take That for as little as £3, in a bid to promote its newly-launched MP3 store. Now, the retailer is offering ten tracks – including the current number one single Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Suck Without You – to download for just 29p. It is also offering the current number one album The Prodigy’s Invaders Must Die for £3. The promotion is live now and will run for a limited period. “Customers have told us how much they like our £3 album offers and we were keen to do something that was equally as appealing on individual tracks,” argues Amazon.co.uk head of music buying Julian Monaghan. “We have worked hard to create a store that not only has great music at low prices but also benefits from ease-of-use and an ever-increasing selection. We believe that offering these ten chart-topping tracks for only 29p, we will encourage even more people to experience the Amazon MP3 store.” Meanwhile, Tesco Digital is selling U2’s new album, No Line On the Horizon, which is set to top the charts on Sunday for £3.97.
March 6, 200916 yr The question: does it count in the chart? Well the minimum dealer price is 40p, but I think Amazon can sell it at a loss it will still count to the chart.
March 6, 200916 yr Well the minimum dealer price is 40p, but I think Amazon can sell it at a loss it will still count to the chart. Yes, as far as I know, the purchased price (the dealer price) counts, and if it's higher than the limit set by the OCC (I don't know what is the limit, 40p can be) tha the track can chart. Shops can sell to costumers whatever price, even lower than the dealer price.
March 6, 200916 yr I hope they add more soon, the ones they've got at the moment are rubbish: Lady GaGa - Just Dance Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You Killers - Human Coldplay - Viva La Vida Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody Prodigy - Omen Eminem - Crack A Bottle The Saturdays - Issues Morrissey - I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris The King Blues - Save The World, Get The Girl They're either ancient, rubbish or I've got them. I was hoping to spend the 40p I had left from a certificate.
March 6, 200916 yr I know someone at The OCC. I asked him about the 29p Downloads at Amazon.uk. (If they'd count towards the 'Singles' Chart on Sunday). Here is what he said:, Yes, Amazon are selling about 10 tracks for just 29p each . All are eligible for the chart. It is their choice to sell them at this price so they still count. So, there you have it - The OCC says, 'Yes'. Zeus555
