March 15, 200916 yr yup, 1976 was a poor year for music. The calm before the storm perhaps. But there was no real musical direction in the charts - acts whose careers were in decline trying to hold on, one hit wonders and too much MOR. 1. Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the uk great song that I bought from the bargain bin of my local record shop just before Christmas 1976 - cost me 10p. Wish I'd bought all the other copies that were there, could have made a fortune 2. Status Quo - Mystery song great song 3. Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak OK, nothing spectacular 4. Jethro Tull - Ring out solstice bells OK, a bit overplayed now due to it appearing on various Christmas compilations and appearing on the music channels at Christmas 5. Walker Brothers - No regets a bit too grown up for me at the time. Not bad in retrospect 6. Wurzels - Combine harvester awful record 7. Kiki Dee - Loving and free pleasant enough 8. Joan Armatrading - Love and affection nice song 9. Kursaal Flyers - Little does she know ever so slightly irritating for some reason I can't quite fathom 10. Be Bop Delux - Ships in the night a Radio Luxembourg favourite, OK 11. Sailor - Glass of champagne never liked it - preferred the banality of Girls, Girls, Girls 12. Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon delight I heard this just as I was getting into listening to the US chart countdown on Radio 1 - it was a number one there. OK 13. Rolling Stones - Fool to cry OK 14. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Boston tea party didn't like this one 15. Randy Edelman - Uptown uptempo woman my local station played this for years after its release and the Magic version of it still does. Why, i don't knw, as it's rubbish! 16. Galagher and Lyle - Heart on my sleave preferred Breakaway, this one was OK but bland 17. England Dan and John Ford Coley - Id really like to see you tonight another US hit I associate with my getting into the US charts in summer 1976. OK 18. Climax Blues Band - Couldnt get it right good song 19. Slik - Forever and ever I liked this at the time, still sounds OK if a little over the top 20. Candi Staton - Young hearts run free great song 21. Cliff Richard - Miss you nights good song 22. Twiggy - Here i go again Twiggy goes country and can sing! Didn't like it though... 23. Manfred Manns Earth Band - Blinded by the light a US number one, good song 24. Smokie - Ill meet you at midnight I liked this one 25. Electric Light Orchestra - Living thing good song 26. Electric Light Orchestra - Evil woman not quite as good as LT but still fine 27. Staus Quo - Rain good song 28. 10cc - Im mandy fly me I didn't care much for 10cc but I liked this with all its tempo changes 29. Silver Convention - Get up and boogie That's right! Good disco song 30. Rod Stewart - The killing of georgie I bought this. Good song with thoughtful lyrics 31. Abba - Money money money meh, not sure what to make of this one 32. Andrea True Connection - More more more one of my faves from 1976 33. Foxx - S s s single bed liked this one 34. James and Bobby Purify - Im your puppet not my cup of tea 35. Barbara Dickson - Answer me nor this 36. Abba - Mama mia never liked this 37. Liverpool Express - You are my love this song reminds me of the summer of 1976 38. Pussycat - Mississippi and this song reminds me why younger sisters should be banned from buying awful records and then playing them all the time! 39. Thin Lizzy - the boys are back in town another song that seemed to be on the radio all the time during that hot summer of '76. Good song
