Posted March 14, 200916 yr Here's the second oldest chart on youtube (still there despite the music ban) 7tqeW8yTo2c This one is a round up of 1987 and there are once again some right corkers. 1. Pump Up The Volume - MARRS 2. It Doesn't Have To Be - Erasure 3. True Faith - New Order 4. Kiss - Age of Chance 5. Shoplifters of the World - The Smiths 6. Nosedive Ep - Gaye Bykers on Acid 7. Birthday - The Sugarcubes 8. My Baby Just Cares For Me - Nina Simone 9. Sheila Take a Bow - The Smiths 10. What Gives You The Idea...? - Crazyhead Here we have TWO Grebo bands, the first Indie national number one, a classic from the The Sugarcubes, two great tracks from The Smiths and probably my favourite cover of all time which should have been massive. All In All a great chart IMHO. What do you lot think?
March 14, 200916 yr The Smiths, Erasure, New Order, & the Sugarcubes. Nina Simone.
March 15, 200916 yr Author If you think Nina Simone was an odd inclusion then you should see the charts from 1988!
March 17, 200916 yr This was when indie meant indie and, yes, Nina was released on an independent label. I've seen this video on youtube before, there are some others from the same time including one with a snippet of the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu doing Whitney Joins the Jams - why they didn't 'play' that video is beyond me.
March 17, 200916 yr Not really my thing, but i love Erasure & the top 3 are great songs, as well as Nina Simone ;)
March 17, 200916 yr Author I intend to post a few more of these charts every so often just so those who are into retro indie get a bit of a look-in. Seems to be attracting a few comments so I guess I'll keep doing it.
