Sadly his last episode tomorrow  the series won't be the same without him, its an end of an era

William Petersen is an outstanding actor, and will be sadly missed. :(

I've been a truly devoted fan of CSI from the very first episode, and its my favourite series of all the 3 CSI's.

We had his last ep air here a couple days ago. It was an end to a great era. :(
I watched CSI for ages, but then got bored with the monotonous storylines. But with Warrick dead, and now the elgendary Grissom gone, is there any future for the show?

We did?

I'm sure i saw an ad the other day for it happening tonight. It was on about surprises and junk and then Sarah randomly appeared on screen.

A very good question to be fair.... Grissom and Warrick were probably the two best characters in the show.... And, as much as I like Laurence Fishburne as an actor, I'm afraid the character he's playing just does not convince me....

Another thing though... Just how the hell can the Fishburne character actually be a replacement in Grissom's position anyway....? He has no actual CSI or law enforcement experience, his interview with that serial killer bloke was a disaster as well.... If anyone should be taking the position as the lead of the show, it surely should be Marg Helgenberger who plays Cathrine (she's been in the show since ep. 1 ffs..), surely Catherine should have Grissom's job.... Or are the producers of CSI just a too big a bunch of sexist tw@ts to have a female lead on the show. or have a strong female lead character....? <_<

I think I'd be rather annoyed if I was Marg Helgenberger tbh, and probably consider jumping ship myself.....

I read in Radio Times that Marg IS the lead in the show as of now...

Okay, so Channel 5 are basically falsely implying through their advertising that Laurence Fishburne is a direct replacement (in the sense that he would head the team a' la Grissom...) for Petersen..... Because the impression I got from all the 5 "bigging up" of Fishburne's inclusion in the cast is that this was precisely what the producers of the show were doing....

Fishburne is the lead. He's listed first in the credits iirc, and that means you're the lead character (unless it's a show like Lost where because they have so many actors, they are listed alpabetically).

Laurence Fishburne is the lead character, personally Catherine should have had Grissom's role, but I guess they wanted some crimnologist, I wish they chose a better actor for the role though, Laurence is not my ideal replacement for the role, I would have opted for someone else, like Maury don't know his surname but he was the lead actor on Criminal Minds before Jose Mantenegro took over.

I don't know how the series will take off without Grissom to be honest, Grissom was the star of the show, but the ending was well fitting for the role.

Having read both Rooney and Martin's replies, that brings me back to my original question - are the producers of CSI just a bunch of sexist tw@ts who dont want to give the lead to a female actor.....? Surely Catherine, as the senior CSI, and Grissom's number 2, should get a promotion (which would surely happen in real life anyway...), ergo, Marg Helgenberger should be the lead actor of the show..... I think Catherine should have been in Gil's position, Nick made up to Catherine's position and a couple of younger, unknown actors coming in to play more junior CSIs, replacing Warrick and a newly promoted Nick.... It's how I would've written it....

And, by the way Martin, it was Mandy Pitinkin who played Gideon in Criminal Minds.... And I was rather under the impression that the present lead actor's name in CM is Joe Mantegna....

I would say it's more likely the networks fault rather than the producers. If a big name actor/character is departing, they want a big name actor to replace him. If they were going to cast Fishburne he couldn't be anything else BUT the lead character.

Absolute quality actor who will be sadly missed from the show. And so will all his various bugs and insects!

Any idea what acting he is moving on to - I presume that's why he left.

He's been badly written in though... Fishburne's character is basically a university professor with ZERO criminal investigation experience... It would be a bit like the makers of Numb3rs have Charlie the maths genius head up the SWAT team on a full breach during a seige.... IT SIMPLY HAS NO CREDIBILITY either dramatically or realistically, shows such as this are supposed to suspend your disbelief so you dont just reject it as utter sh!te. The whole reason I preferred the original CSI to the others was that it wasn't as utterly ridiculous and overdone as Miami or New York.... If they'd done it correctly, it would've been the case that Fishburne's character be a former CSI but left to go teach criminology or forensics, and now is back in again after being requested by his "old pal" Gil...... They did a similar idea with Joe Mantegna's character in Criminal Minds, the criminal psychologist guru who "wrote the book" coming back to head up the team after losing Gideon....
