I haven't watched the DVD yet either. :P I need to allocate time to do so.

Album fell to #7 in Friday's midweeks, I really hope it doesn't slip any lower than that.

well i got a copy today at last, my local tesco dont have it and i was sure they would but im thinking was it only released today in ireland as its not in todays top 100 albums?

No one want to discuss one of the best Indie/Alt Rock albums of the year.....?

Only listened to it once so far, but, first impressions...? Top album, full of great hooks, good solid riffing and songwriting... Of course, you still have Brian Molko's rather hilariously cheesy rhyming couplets on a few of the songs, but, let's face it, it wouldn't really be Placebo if you didn't have those....

IMO, a top album, and a more 'back-to-basics' approach from Molko and Co, with the sort of great, no-nonsense style of spiky, pop/punk songwriting that was present in the first two Placebo albums.... Very solid stuff, excellent record IMO.....

Heard two songs from their new album atm (Neverending Line and For What It's Worth), I think I have to listen to the whole album. :o

You do, it's great... I'd prob stop the CD before it got to the bonus tracks though mate, they're kinda "filler"...

No-one's written about it here because we have a Placebo forum!

Visit it Grimly, needs all the visits it can get at the moment!

And I agree it's a brilliant album btw!

Oh, I kind of thought that the Placebo AF was one of the AFs that got shut down......

Top album.. Only listened to it once, but really enjoyed it... Full of the great sort of killer hooks and spiky pop/punk songwriting that made Placebo's first two albums such classics.... Good to see them returning to the sort of great, no-nonsense songwriting which got me into them in the first place....

With this and the excellent new Manics and Sonic Youth records, it's looking really good for the old-skool 90s Indie/Alt rock acts  I just really wish that My Bloody Valentine could get their fingers out of their arses and give us a new record...... ^_^

It hasn't been yet, but I think it's probably on its way out.

There's only a few regular posters. :(

Really? I used to be into Placebo two years ago, but I've really come to dislike them. :/ I found this album especially bad. At least with their older material (their self titled debut and Without You I'm Nothing), Molko had something of a juvenile charm. Battle for the Sun comes off extraordinarily pretentious and whiny. Lyrically it's some of their worst (and they've had some awful lyrics before). "No one cares when you're out in the streets / Picking up the pieces to make ends meet / No one cares when you're out in the gutter / Got no friends ain't got no lover." It's just cringe worthy in my opinion, sounds like it was written by a 13 year old girl who frequents Hot Topic or something.

So yeah, I'd disagree here. There are tons of better indie albums this year by far; I'd actually call this one of the worst. Faux artsy/deep lyris coupled with boring and repetitive song structures results in a very uninspired album imo...

Yeah, someone move this to the Placebo forum and merge it into the album topic. We Kinda need all the posts we can get.

My views on the album... very good of course but far from their best, it has it's high points but very low points (such as recycling old lyrics on the borefest 'Bright Lights', 'Come Undone' I find pretty awful too). 'Speak In Tongues' is probably my favourite at the moment.

Just the opposite for me tbh  Didn't like their last album much. It was samey and boring to a great extent all the way through. But this one is  Except, probably, I agree, some repetitive song structures that can put a person off the song. But melodically and musically the album is really really good!

I used to post a lot in here, but I felt in some point that I'm talking to myself (and sometimes with Aly), so I express my opinions on Placebo on their own forums.

I still visit this forum sometime, but there's no new post very often.

I don't have much to discuss about new album, I think it's amazing. And I think I'll like it even more in 2 or 3 years from now, when it'll have some history...

Bight Lights is amazing imo, also my favorites are: The Never-Ending Why, Julien, Happy You're Gone, Kings Of Medicine, Devil In The Details, Speak In Tongues... Well, I can really say I like all songs except Kitty Litter, which is really Placebo from '97 and I'm not really into that style. I'd never start to listen them if they only had album Placebo.

And In a Funk is pretty good also!

And you were somehow expecting a Placebo album to be anything other than pretentious or faux artsy....? The dodgy lyrics are part of their charm tbh... I dont half get a laugh when I read their lyric sheets... You just have to remember that most of the time Molko is taking the p!ss with his lyrics... I'd genuinely fear for anyone who took his lyrics seriously.... He's not Richie Edwards or Nick Cave, I dont really expect him to be....

I'm not very keen on 'Kitty Litter', (or 'Ashtray Heart') either! :(

I still think I prefer Meds, which is probably my favourite Placebo album (it was the one that got me into them in the first place)...even if others think it's one of their weakest!

I do really like this album though, one of the albums of the year for me. I could listen to 'Kings of Medicine' and 'Julien' all day.

I dont think Meds is their weakest album at all... I wasn't overly fond of "Black Market Music" or "Sleeping With Ghosts" tbh... I thought "Meds" was better than both of those.... Just not as good as the first two... Or this one...

Oh, and by the way, you've got a spammer on the Indie/Alt Forum......

:heehee: Thanks for the heads up about the spammer!

I definitely think 'Without You I'm Nothing' is one of their best albums. I'm not overly fond of their debut, but to be fair, I haven't given it too many listens.

And I agree about 'Meds' being better than the other two albums definitely, although I much prefer 'Sleeping With Ghosts' to 'Black Market Music'.

I'm not really sure where this album fits in with the rest tbh, not their best, but far from their worst imo.
