He got more than a little close, he swerved so close to the Renault you could barely spit between the tires.

Plus it was Piquets cold brakes that caused the actual spin as he reacted to Spastic Rosbergs random swerve

I felt gutted for Webber, most people did. There was quite a loud groan for his accident. Personally i was cursing when Kovy stopped. Wrong bloody McLaren.

and Nope. I dislike Button almost as much as i hate Hamilton. I think they are both arseholes and i'm looking forward to their retirement so i don't have to watch the commentators and british press arse lick them. I don't rate either of them as drivers and as for Hamilton's Senna comparison, if i were Senna i'd be spinning in my f***ing grave.

If Piquet get's that scared when someone 'randomly swerves' to pass him the he shouldn't be in F1. -_-

I'm quite happy to compare Hamilton to Senna as I think they're both hugely overated - but anyways, jenson may not be the best driver but he is a genuinely nice guy imo and someone I'm proud to say i support (now that DCs gone).

Piquet shouldn't still have his RF1 seat -_- he showed very little reason why he should keep it. There are far more deserving drivers out there without drives.(Klien & Liuzzi for example)

I wouldn't say Senna was overrated personally. Button however, yes. Overrated doesn't quite cut it.

I've disliked Button since '04, so i'm pretty consistent in my hatred.

You can't say button is overated as hardly anyone believes him to be that good  I think he is a very solid driver but moreso a nice bloke

Hamilton disqualified from Australian GP

By Jonathan Noble Thursday, April 2nd 2009, 08:49 GMT

Lewis Hamilton has been stripped of his third place finish in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix after the world champion and his team were judged to have provided 'misleading' evidence during a post-race stewards' hearing.

The British driver had finished fourth on the road, but was moved up a position when original third place finisher Jarno Trulli was handed a 25-second penalty for having overtaken Hamilton behind the safety car.

However, following the discovery of new evidence, believed to be radio transmissions from the Toyota and McLaren teams, the race stewards convened a fresh hearing in Malaysia this afternoon to discuss the matter.

It is believed the radio transmissions contradicted the original statements presented to the stewards by Hamilton and McLaren.

A statement issued by the stewards said: "The Stewards having considered the new elements presented to them from the 2009 Australian Formula One Grand Prix, consider that driver No 1 Lewis Hamilton and the competitor Vodafone McLaren Mercedes acted in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of the event by providing evidence deliberately misleading to the Stewards at the hearing on Sunday 29th March 2009, a breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code.

"Under Article 158 of the International Sporting Code the driver No 1 Lewis Hamilton and the competitor Vodafone McLaren Mercedes are excluded from the race classification for the 2009 Australian Grand Prix and the classification is amended accordingly."

Further to the Hamilton decision, the race stewards have scrapped the penalty against Trulli and he has now been awarded third place for the Australian Grand Prix.

Stewards Decision - Australian GP

02/04/2009

PENALTY IMPOSED ON DRIVER NO 1 LEWIS HAMILTON AND COMPETITOR VODAFONE MCLAREN MERCEDES

SUMMARY OF KEY CONSIDERATIONS

At the first hearing following the Australian Grand Prix the Stewards did not have the benefit of the radio exchanges between driver No 1 Lewis Hamilton and his Team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes nor did they have access to the comments to the Media given by Lewis Hamilton immediately after the end of the race.

From the video recordings available to the Stewards during the hearing it appeared that Jarno Trulli’s car left the track and car No 1 moved into third place. It then appeared that Trulli overtook Hamilton to regain third place, which at the time was prohibited as it was during the Safety Car period.

During the hearing, held approximately one hour after the end of the race, the Stewards and the Race Director questioned Lewis Hamilton and his Team Manager David Ryan specifically about whether there had been an instruction given to Hamilton to allow Trulli to overtake. Both the driver and the Team Manager stated that no such instruction had been given. The Race Director specifically asked Hamilton whether he had consciously allowed Trulli to overtake. Hamilton insisted that he had not done so.

The new elements presented to the Stewards several days after the 2009 Australian Grand Prix which led to the reconvened Stewards Meeting clearly show that:

a. Immediately after the race and before Lewis Hamilton attended the Stewards Meeting he gave an interview to the Media where he clearly stated that the Team had told him to let Trulli pass.

b. Furthermore, the radio exchanges between the driver and the Team contain two explicit orders from the Team to let the Toyota pass.

The Stewards, having learned about the radio exchanges and the Media interview, felt strongly that they had been misled by the driver and his Team Manager which led to Jarno Trulli being unfairly penalised and Lewis Hamilton gaining third place.

What a c**t.

I dislike him even more now, penalizing Jarno to gain a place -_-

Yeah I think McLaren could be in deep $h!t over this one, you just don't lie to stewards and the FIA and get away with it, I think this DSQ is just the beginning of the punishment for this

originally i thought it was the teams doing based on what NickF1 posted, but after what you posted it was quite clear that Lewis was aware of what he was saying. This was no innocent mistake. -_-

I hope this is the beginning of the punishment for him, what he did was a totally unsportsman like thing. Personally i wouldn't have stopped at the Aussie GP i'd have kicked him out the Malaysian GP as well.

As a sportsman myself i know that one of the most important things to do is to be a good sportsman, infact were taught as swimmers to not be a bad losers. If you handle yourself with dignity and have respect for others and the rules then at the end of the day it reflect better on you, and i would honestly compete honestly so i know what i did was the best i could do and i could be proud of my performance.

This is obviously a bad thing to have done and yes, he should have been disqualified from Aussie as it is a very serious offence. However, that should be the end of the punishment. F1 is already far too complicated to people who don't follow it without these endless trials and appeals wtih penalties being dished out, withdrawn, and dished out again after the race - How are people meant to get excited about a GP if after the race the stewards swap all the cars around?

:magic: As long as no Renaults are being DQ'd or there is a Renault benefiting then i'm fine.

Although it can be pretty annoying to go to bed, and by the time you wake up everything has changed 3 times overnight.

I'm still raging over the Mass Dampers getting taken off Renault, but the McLaren version which they HID from the FIA until they got caught was allowed to be kept?!?!!?? In fact most cars now use the McLaren Mass Damper System. Double standards much??? Especially seeing as 1) Renault had shown the FIA the mass dampers who had declared them Legal back in 05 and 2) It was McLaren that shopped Renault to the stewards. In fact many more teams than Renault were caught out by w*n**r Ron Dennis.

Didn't you hear? Bernie doesn't want anyone outside Europe to watch F1 :P

This ain't Bernie, this is Channel 10 :/

Arseholes

I know the European races will be on at awkward hours likes :(

Can't wait till i come back and i can watch them in the Arvo instead of the wee hours

LOL at Lewis! Shame they closed the race, but it was inevitable. I'm surprised at how long it took them to close it.

What!

*Checks BBC F1 site*

Damn you Channel 10 damn you.

So You Think You Can Dance is not more important than the GP!!!!

:heehee: I think they're still planning on restarting it after 10/20 mins tho, although I doubt it.

The FIA really are a bunch of morons. Told that if they're to start the Malaysian GP later start at 4pm and not 5pm because a 5pm rain in a 5pm start WILL make the race red flagged. So they start it at 5pm and it gets red flagged... :manson:
