The tv show X Factor will continue to be on tv so long as it gets good ratings. The success of its graduates is a side-story. It helps to promote the show and to get people to audition if there are successes, and people feel they are finding a big star, but I also think the general public and media are becoming more realistic and accepting that a string of number one singles will be the exception to the rule.

I was never fussed about Leon, but it was obvious from the start that he was getting the budget deal from SBMG. I understand that they were never going to give him the same budget they gave to Leona, but they could have been more respectful in the little ways. Isn't he on tour now? Couldn't they have waited until after the tour before making the announcement?

I doubt Leon would have been a major success with other management or record company people involved, but as well as having little faith in him, they didn't seem to put any real thought or effort into his marketing. They seemed to be doing the basics until they could get rid of him with least embarrassment to themselves.

i agree nosey i think they showed total lack of respect for him which is lame considering he won the show and a million pund contarct even though i dont like his music myself i still feel they could have promoted him more, comparing to the fan fare leona got leon got nothing, likewise the songs given to leon were very weak simon didnt want him to win and when he did he didnt want him to succeeed, they did the same with steve brokkstein,

When this happens to the winners its tarnishing the show as everything simon says becomes more lies and lies,i know the huge is show and i love it myself and in a way the show will always be bigger than the winners but i feel sorry for leon and how he has been treated i mean they didnt even tell him to his face he found out like us in the newspaper.

I agree Diana was great this year but i so wanted Ruth Lorenzo to win i thought herself and diana were differnt to all the others and ruths purple rain and always were by far the best perfromances for me on the show ever

Agree about Ruth and Purple Rain, by far the best song ever heard performed on a UK reality tv show but disagree about Diana, she was different and I admired her for that but she had a weak voice even if she had a unique style as far as X Factor goes, I loved her version of Call Me and Man In The Mirror but other than that she just didn't raise the bar, her versions of Girlfriend and that Dido song were car crash tv

In terms of Leon again I disagree, comparing him with Leona is like comparing a Derby winner with a donkey that gives rides on Blackpool promenade, Leona has a world class voice Leon had a week, drippy voice, it was so obvious he was never going to make it, the public knew it and Sony knew it, comparing Leon with Leona is a massive insult to Leona, no way should he have got the same marketing etc, it would be throwing good money after bad

I totally agree with this and virtually all your points on this subject.

Whilst I agree Rockstar INXS was the best reality TV talent show ever. The standard was so incredibly high.

For example I can honestly say I have not seen a performance on X-Factor/Pop Idol ever equal or better than these:

Suzie McNeil (4th) - Bohemian Rhapsody

Jordis Unga (5th) - The Man Who Sold The World

Marty Casey (2nd) - Creep

JD Fortune (1st) - The Letter

Mind you, as Radiohead & David Bowie are some of the lengthy list of artists who refuse to have their songs performed on X-Factor (others include Paul McCartney (post Beatles); Bob Dylan; Bruce Springsteen; Paul Weller; Kate Bush; The Who; The Kinks; Led Zeppelin; Pink Floyd; Pet Shop Boys; Depeche Mode; etc) because of their utter contempt for Simon Cowell and what he represents in the music industry.

Whilst could you imagine Simon Cowell allowing an act to perform an original composition written by a contestant; like this example from Rock Stars: INXS?

JD Fortune (1st) - Pretty Vegas

Awesome songs, particularly Suzie McNeil and JD Fortune  that version of Bohemian Rhapsody was as good if not better than Constantine Maroulis's version on American Idol, awesome  and I really liked JD Fortune too

The sad reality is that neither of those 2 would have got past Boot Camp in X Factor :( they are way above X Factor standard but are not the ballad singing clones that Cowell wants

Personally I think the first series of Fame Academy was on the track with contestants who could write their own songs. Unfortunately all people want on a Saturday evening is glorified karaoke with Cowell’s putdowns and the other judge’s breakdowns. However it’d be brilliant if the winner were someone who was a great singer and talented songwriter and would ultimately have a better future ahead of them.

Okay David Sneddon was pretty much like Leon Jackson but at least he wrote his few hits. Lemar is still having some degree of success 6 years on.

To be fair to the lad there was no point waiting nearly a year to launch him if they weren’t going to put any effort into giving him decent material or promoting the album. He might of well have just released an album of Scottish covers last March for Mothers Day.

Don't forget MTV's 'The Cut' ;) Miles better than the X-Factor

If you watch American Idol and then later this year to X-Factor. X-Factor looks so cheaply made towards AI.

At least with AI the results go on the public vote not the judges sending someone home every week.

AI has a decent presenter, what has X-Factor got - Dermot O'Dreary.

AI has got a full panel of good judges whereas X-factor only has half.

I mean Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh

Also with X-factor everything is squeezed into 1 hour.

Only 2 critisims of this years AI. Two of the stars I have disliked.

The other is the way the earlier shows were treated by ITV2. The 2 hour shows were split with the dreadful Paris Hilton's British Best Friend in between.

What I had to do is watch the first hour on ITV2+1 the second hour on ITV2 to get continuity of the show.

Out of 7 previous series of AI there has only been 2 bad winners - Fantasia & Taylor Hicks

Out of 5 series of X-Factor there has only been 1 good winner - Leona

I wouldn't say the whole AI panel is decent, I find Paula Abdul an absolute waste of space of a judge, I know she's got bags of musical experience, but she never just says that someone is bad.

There's a girl in my school year who auditioned for X factor this year and didn't get past the first round.

I've heard her sing and she's truly phenomenal, believe me if she was rubbish I'd say it, she deserves to be a worldwide star.

It just riles me up now when I hear the likes of Leon Jackson and Eoghan Quigg singing, the girl in my school has so much more talent in her left toe than they do combined

She sang "You are the wind beneath my wings" at our graduation last night. (It was kinda like a mass too)

Perhaps she was really nervous and screwed up. I was going to do it this year but it was on easter sunday so couldn't get there.

I saw him last week on tour - he was so impressive - what a change in his voice!

I'm sure he can bounce back. X factor just made him really dull.

I was reading online (in some despicable newspapers 'discussions' column) about a girl who went along to an X-Factor audition just to keep her friend company. The story she told was awful - but exactly as I imagined it to be. Her friend - although wasn't brilliant - was a good singer and certainly worthy of going through to the televised early shows. She was rejected however - as the producers' assistants only chose those that were truly mind-blowing (of which there were few) and loads of truly awful, awful hopefuls (of which there were hundreds). She said that those of the latter variety came out clutching their slips of 'you're through' paper whooping with delight and phoning their loved ones to say they'd made it through. She wanted to tell them they'd only been selected to be ritually humiliated in front of millions on TV by Cowell & Co.

And yet - we (me included) say each year - who tells these people they can sing? The answer is - Simon Cowell's TV Producers!

Same with my sisters mate, she's REALLY good, and she went to audition. Had to get there at something like 5am in the morning, auditioned at like 12 and was told she was good but they didn't want her through. And then she had to watch how all the talentless/p!sstake auditions made it through.

The truly bad ones only apply because they WANT to be ridiculed on tv, I am not talking about the deluded teenage girls who try sing Mariah only to sound like nails being scraped on a blackboard I am talking about the true freaks and r*t****, they could not possibly imagine seriously that they are good enough to win X Factor so they go on the show to be ridiculed and laughed at, like that guy from a couple of years ago black dude with half his teeth missing who tried to do Michael Jackson and crashed into the scenery those types enter FOR the ridicule
