Anything with Kanye is good
Okay, let's say I've come round to liking Knock You Down. I still agree with my original comments, it's um...Kanye's rap I love. Yer! That's it. :)

I think Ne-Yo and (mostly) Kanye definitely make the song. I like the "OMG, you listen to that bitch?" bit of his part.

I really think if Rihanna was given this song it would have been her next "Umbrella", it's quite similar sounding - I get the same vibe from them both. Plus with Ne-Yo and Kanye already on it, Rihanna would have just tipped the amount of big artists on it over the edge. It would have also been good for someone like Ciara or Cassie, but Keri does a good job. (though it's odd that she seems the most expendable of the 3) One of her best bits on it is the "and if it hits better make it worth the fall" and it isn't in the video edit. (?!)

I only love the parts Keri sing. The song is stunning but Kanye sounds almost exactly like he did on 'American Boy', doesn't suit the song at all. And Ne-Yo is even more off-putting, I mean him singing 'Miss Independent' in one of the verses is just so wtf? This song should've been Keri alone, her verses and the chorus make it IMMENSE. Kanye and Ne-Yo over featured a bit for me, someone like Usher or The Dream would've suited the song a lot better than Kanye and Ne-Yo.

But it is a major improvement from Energy and one my faves from the album..

Single order should've been:

Knock You Down -> Turnin Me On and then come back with new material or maybe Alienated as a 3rd. Energy was never going to be huge anyway and I can't really put a finger on how well 'Return The Favour' would do, hopefully it does give her a great solo debut in the UK though, she deserves it after what she's done for Timbo, Britney etc.

Lol, the Miss Independent bit is there because Keri was the lead girl and the 'miss independent' in his video.

But yeah I still cant get enough of it. MS KERI BABAYYYYY!

'Ms Independant' is like NeYo's call-out sort of thing, the same as RedOne does the whole RedOne/Konvict thing. I quite like it.

Pshh, Kanye's bit is the best part of the whole song. It is quite similar to his bit on "American Boy" (mentioning Michael Jackon and Bad again) but it's probably because his latest album was more vocoder, less rap, so it seems odd? As for Ne-Yo, Golowhore got it right, Keri Hilson played "Miss Independent" in his music video so it's not like he's trying to advertise himself in the song or anything.

I think Kanye and Ne-Yo are two of my favourite guys in this genre, why would you ask someone average like Usher or The-Dream to feature on the track when you can get two of the biggest stars on it? I think it's perfect as it is Kanye and Ne-Yo compliment the slightly average Keri to make one of the best songs of the year for me.

I haven't heard many Ne-Yo produced tracks, but I think it's more likely to be a reference to the "Miss Independent" video than a 'call out' and, of course, 'Konvict' is Akon, he just happens to work with RedOne a lot.

^Lol, Usher sh!ts on Ne yo, Ne yo is a poor man's Usher. And I like Ne yo. But I agree with the rest. :P

No offense, but that was a pretty off analysis. Usher is one of R&B's greats, his much bigger than Ne-Yo and Ne-Yo has a much more girly friendly voice which doesn't fit the song, at all. I prefer Kanye sticking with 808s-sound, 'Knock You Down' becomes a bit off centre and odd with so many different vocals blending in.

Kanye compliments the lyrics and intention of the song, but his voice just does nothing to it, at all and I LOVE him.

Ne-Yo was just random, it really might add a big name and a broader attraction but the song doesn't suit their styles at all. Keri and Usher would've been immense on it, everything he touches would turn to gold with these type of songs. I think 'Love In This Club's remix even made Billboard's top 20 when Beyonce was featured, that is a good indicator. Ushers voice is much more suited to the song, The Dream is probably among THE best male R&B singers, his falsetto voice is f***ing incredible. He made Gym Class Heroes's 'Cookie Jar' with him on vocals in the chorus. Keri/Usher/The Dream - perfect combination for the song

As for Keri being average, she is amazingly talented.. A browse through album would speak heaps, it'd definitely be up for a couple of grammies with the professional reviews it's got for Keri songwriting, singing and so forth. She is a major contributor to names like Timbaland and Britney Spears, her vocal ability certainly outweighs that of your faves Estelle, Beverly etc BY MILES. She is anything but AVERAGE.

Back in Usher's hey-day then MAYBE, but after both of their most recent material...

Ne-Yo (Year of the Gentleman)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Usher (Here I Stand)

:P - But IMO Ne-Yo is a much better Songwriter...

Usher is past it really, his most recent album sold nothing compared to the one before it. Ne-Yo is more relevant at the moment and his smooth vocals work well with Keri's subtle voice.

You seem to want this to sound like any other male/female R&B ballad. Usher and The-Dream have nice voices but they're too similar and I think it'd make for a rather boring song. Maybe the current three are quite different in styles but that's what gives it an edge. It just needs someone like Kanye to rap on it or it would blur in with the rest of the album.

I acknowledge that Keri is a good writer but there's only a handful of tracks that excite me on the album. Since when have her vocals been anything other than average? Yeah, she may be better than Estelle vocally (but Estelle's type of music is slightly different) but I don't know how you can be serious when you say she's more talented than Beverley. Even if you don't like her music you can't deny her vocals.

vs

One of them is currently the best voice in soul, the other hardly sings and sounds flat when she does. Keri is competent but the two are incomparable, let's be honest.

I've just gotta say it's insane to say The-Dream has a killer voice. I love the guy's work, but he's one of the worst live singers of the moment. He's definitely fresh, but like Ne-Yo he has a real "standard" voice. People just cream over them because of their falsetto or warbling. I thought it was near accepted The-Dream needs to work on his vocal. And hey, I think both stars are great and have produced some high quality material, but that doesn't cloud my judgment.

Anyway, Kanye's inclusion is fine. I think he actually compliments Keri's vocal quite nicely. I don't think Ne-Yo adds a great deal, but he's been on fire this era so it's a smart move.

Yeah. Ne yo is good. But hes not great. I thought even Here I Stand which was baaaad for Usher's standards had much better tracks than year of the gentleman. And anyway Ne y is more of a pop singer now really. But anyway yeah, I think both ne yo and kanye suit the track great.

And lol, Keri doesnt have a better voice than beverly.

Not better obviously, but hardly comparable either. One is soul, one is contemporary R&B/hip-hop.

Anyway... up 8 to 46 on the Hot 100. :D Turnin Me On also up 1, back to it's 15 peak.

Gah, I'm not even lying when I say this is quite possibly my favourite song in a long time. I've had it on iTunes for less than a month and I've just listened to it for the 35th time (putting it in my top...73 iTunes songs already) and I'm not bored of it. Shoulda been first single.

I've been loving "Turnin Me On" and "Get Your Money Up" too, I like her more 'hip-hop style' stuff a lot more than her R&B 'jams'.

And LOOK who is up again this week on the Hot 100...

46 39 KERI HILSON FEATURI KNOCK YOU DOWN
