can identical twins be born male and female?

I'm not a baby expert but I'm sure they can't.

 

Aren't identical twins formed when the same egg actually splits ( and it would already have been fertilised either male or female by that point)?

I think that's right. One sperm fertilises one egg and then it divides into two, so unless the sperm was male AND female (which isn't possible) I don't think it's possible.

No they have to be from the same sperm and egg, therefore have the same genes and chromosones.

Well, they can´t even have different eye colours, let alone sex...

however think it would have been funny if Scarlett and Hunter Johansson were identical. but as they stand he is freakishly tall compared to her. thats very bizarre!!!
