You haven't won the Premiershp yet this season Kyle, good position I admit but you should save your gloating a good while yet as this can still blow up in your face big time, you are assuming you are going to win any games in hand, dangerous assumption
Paisley will always be remembered for winning it 3 times in 9 years. Fergie can never eclipse that.

If he wins it twice more he'll surely have beaten that, otherwise he'll be going til he's almost 80!

LOL in what world? Certainly not the real world.

To be fair it is a lot of harder to win the CL now, especially in the last 15 years we've had an established elite like the late 90's had Juventus and Real Madrid and now we have the English teams + Barcelona. Plus now we have three or four teams from the best countries so there are more really good teams to get past this time then back then.

And with our reaction to winning against Villa, it was the fact that it looked like we were going to lose it and in true Manchester United style we came back to win it in the end and [Man United/Liverpool arrogance]This is one of the main reasons why we're the most popular football team in the entire world[/Man United/Liverpool arrogance] We can be a goal down in 85 minutes and still think we can win the game but you never know if it'll happen or not and we did it in the time when we just needed it! Think of it from a United fans' point of view, 20 minutes before that we thought we had blown our title chances and then suddenly we're back on track and those feelings are what being a football fan is all about. The fact that so many Liverpool fans were really annoyed was the greatest bonus ever! :P

The CL is a much harder competition to win than the old European Cup. In the old competition it was possible to reach the final having only met teams from countries like Finland, Sweden and Romania. Now you're up against teams from countries like Spain, Italy and Germany throughout the competition. Don't forget, no team has yet successfully defended the CL.

I completely disagree. It has never been easier to win the top prize in Europe compared to the old days of the old school European Cup.

Back in the old days you had to win your national League Title first (or retain the European Cup) to qualify.

Not like now where 4 sides from England, Italy & Spain can qualify for the competition.

For example Manchester United did nor win the Premiership in 1997-98; yet they qualified for the ECL and won it in 1998-99; when under the old rules they would have failed to qualify for the competition. Whilst in 2004-5 season Liverpool finished in 4th place, 30 (yes THIRTY) points behind champions Arsenal. Yet of course they went on to win the ECL.

Whilst with the current ECL set up it encourages the cream to rise to the top by having a group stage and a seeding format. This is very different to the old school European Cup when like the FA Cup it was literally a case of team names in a hat so that Liverpool met Nottingham Forest in 1978-9 EC in the first round to get eliminated after winning the cup twice.

what you going on about, even if we lost our game in hand, we'd still be top

how come you've not won the league in 19 years, then?

Because Souness f***ed us over and for 16 years we've been left with an under-par team. We will win the Premier League very soon, whether it's this season, next season or the season after. It will be coming.

Nah Fergie will never be able to eclipse Paisley. It took him 9 years just to get 2 European Cups. You play more games in the Champions League now but until you get into the last 16 you play against pretty poor teams tbh. At the moment the there's only 5 teams I can realistically see winning the Champions League. Like i've said before, Liverpool managed to win the ECL in 2005 with pretty much the worst Liverpool team ever.

true but you are speaking like the title race is over and you might as well be given the trophy now

you have 4 points more than you would have but for a 17 year old Italian, points are points but you been riding your luck lately

If Macheda hadn't scored those goals, Man Utd would be 3rd right now.

The balls still rolling in Man Utd's court, but it'll go down right to the end. Arsenal are the team that cam change so much seeing as they have to play all the rest of the Big 4 yet!

It's easier to get into the CL but. once you're there, it's harder to win. In the knock-out stages, you are likely to have to play several ties against sides from Spain, Italy, Germany and England. That wasn't true of the old European Cup.

Yes but if the current ECL rules were in place in the old European Cup days then Manchester United could have participated for the top European trophy in the season following on from the national league results in 1958-9, 1963-4, 1965-6, 1967-8, 1975-6, 1979-80, 1981-2, 1982-3, 1983-4, 1984-5*, 1985-6*, 1987-8* seasons.

* But in reality Manchester United would have been affected by the European ban of English clubs (lifted 1990-1) post Heysal Stadium disaster.

Whilst if the old European Cup rules were in place then Manchester United would have not been able to compete in the 1998-9 (which you won!); 2002-3, 2004-5, 2005-6, 2006-7 tournaments.

The only teams outside of England that can compete with the English clubs at the moment are Barcelona and Inter Milan. Possibly AC Milan if they buck their ideas together. That's 6 out of the 32 teams. Maybe between 02-07 it was quite difficult, but Juventus, AC Milan, Lyon, Ajax, Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Bayern Munich and Porto are nowhere near the teams they were a few years ago. Reently its been the same teams in the quarter/semi/finals for the past couple of years.

What's all this "you"? I'm a Brighton supporter. We're unbeaten in European competition btw :P

for me not liking double quoting people on here, i'm going to name Rooney, Twatty1 and CT, Twatty2

Twatty1, if Benayoun didn't score in the last min vs Fulham, where would you be? it works both ways

Twatty2, what does age matter? he's in the squad because he's good enough, not because he's 17.....

You could have just called me Rooney? :s No need for cheap insults. And yes it does work both ways you're right, but I was just pointing out. :) I wasn't really making refernence to the fact he scored in the last minute, I was just saying that Man Utd have relied over the past 2 games on an inexperienced 17 year old striker to get them the points. No shame in it, but it just shows up Fergie paying way over the odds for Berbatov. £30m?

you spent £20m on Keane, then sold him......

and Macheda >>> Benayoun, so you counted on a $h!t Israeli player to save you, oh right

Yes. We spent £20m on Keane. We sold him 5 months later. He was not a team player, and did not fit into our team, much like Berbatov. At least Rafa realised this and counted his losses.

I seriously cannot believe what you just said. Benayoun is Israel's best player for starters, and i'm not his biggest fan, but if you play him in his right position he's always gonna cause teams bother and unlock defences. And he did not save us, we battered Fulham all game. He just scored the goal.
