From the Music Week report 7 years ago:

Gates' single sold a comparatively small 77,000 units last week, to bring its three-week total to 1,156,277.

SINGLE FACTFILE

Her personal life may be in difficulties at the moment, if reports are to be believed, but Britney Spears' chart career is doing just fine. The 21-year-old singer registers her 11th straight hit this week with I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman, which debuts at number two to become her highest charting hit since Oops ... I Did It Again reached number one in May 2000. I'm Not A Girl is the third and highest-charting single from Spears' current album Britney.

Both I'm A Slave 4 U and Overprotected debuted and peaked at number four. I'm Not A Girl sold just more than 40,000 units last week, fewer than Slave's opening score of 52,000 but better than Overprotected's 35,500. The Britney album has responded well to the stimulus it has been given by the current single, moving 45-35-20 in the past fortnight, only charting higher on two of the previous 21 weeks since its release.

Awful cheesy dross from Britney. Best new entry from that week was Sheryl Crow, although Michelle Branch and Aurora were pleasant enough.

That was easily one of Britney's worst singles ever. :puke: Totally awful.

Still better than half of that top 10 though. Next week's chart was thankfully better though. :P

5 DANCE SONGS IN THE TOP 10 - when will that ever happen again?!

Still better than half of that top 10 though. Next week's chart was thankfully better though. :P

I just looked closely at that top 10 and you're right, it's definitely on the same level as some of the others. :(

No, no, she was just a PUPPET back then - she didn't really mean what she said/sung ( everything she said to the press was carefully orchestrated by Jive after all) + she did exactly what her parents etc wanted which was exactly what Jive wanted ( they created the whole sexualized SCHOOLGIRL image to flog their product and BOY was it a successful as Coke's PR - an eminently suitable comparison as Britney was a wholly manufactured product NOTHING at ALL of substance from herself - just Jive's idea of what would sell ( the music being secondary to an extent).

Fast forward to NOW and SHE ( NOT her parents , NOT her record company, NOT her fans desperate to keep their all consuming obsession fed) really controls her own destiny - SHE decided to make a NEW ALBUM only after months out of being in hospital, as any shrink with integrity would agree with.:blink: SHE decided to do MASSIVE WORLD TOUR JUST a year after having a LIFE threatening and LIFE altering breakdown. :wacko:

Yes now she speaks with her own mind and FROM the heart - complete sincere considered integrity - just look at her concern for her fans' when she told them as part of her entertainer capacity at the tour stop where the smoke delayed the start of the performance ;

"PLEASE, DON'T SMOKE CANNABIS !!!!"

Poor cow -With such a lack of brain cells (+ on top of that her mental illness) she never had much of a chance but to be used and abused by people throughout her whole life :(
