Hello! ^_^

First: I know this is something that.. has probably been discussed a lot before, and I'm sorry if this seems unnecessary - but.. I still wonder;

What is the definition of a cheap song?

(and I've made a new thread, just so I can get a good enough overview of the "dilemma" and all the relevant answers)

1. Does it have to do with how popular the song is?

2. If yes.. how much popular can it be, before it is "cheap"..?

3. Or how popular the song has been?

4. If yes here.. how long can you wait before it is not cheap anymore..?

5. Does it take months, years or decades?

5. Or if both has something to do with it?.. then the same two questions still count..

6. Or does it have something to do with the artist? (even if the song is unpopular to the boot, to the mud, to the... err.. dirty things..)

7. If yes here.. then how come?

8. If no on all of them.. then I really just dont understand.. <_<

9. no questions here.. I just like the number 9..

9 is such a marvellous number

10. By the way.. tell me your favorite number(s)..?

Mine is 2, 3, 4 and 9.. and why is personal..

Thank you for answering, though.. ^_^

darn.. I made two five-numbers in the list..

lets just say I did that to fit it in with the number-part on the end..

no, really.. I did

People have many different definitons on this and that's where it gets complicated...

For me, cheap = current, major hits ala Jai Ho in XV and Love Story in XIV... but for some cheap = entries popular on buzzjack....

Personally I think that a cheap song can be a few things:

*An old (a few years) song which was hugely successful eg. 'Murder on the Dancefloor', 'Crazy In Love' etc.

*A new song (at the time of the comp) which is hugely anticipated eg. 'So What'

*A Buzzjack favourite eg. anything by the Veronicas

and there are many songs in the "zone"..

that they seem to be cheap.. but really isn't.. and some that doesn't seem cheap.. but really is..

and some that are both cheap and.. not-cheap..

I shall just copy my post from the previous Anti-Cheapness Movement regarding my feelings on cheap entries.

*Anyone with an artist forum or considerable following on BuzzJack. This includes b-sides, leaks or completely unknown songs. To me, it doesn't matter. They're a popular artist on here and have fans that'll vote for them almost regardless. There could be a couple of exceptions though (I'd hardly call Darius or Bon Jovi cheap...)

*Any UK top 10 hit from the past 3 years or so, has been a big hit at any point in time or regarded as a 'classic'. Successful single, still likely to be well known and fairly fresh in the memory of most people.

*Anything that's a recent single which is receiving promotion and as a result hype on BuzzJack. I'd say 6 weeks either side of release.

*Any artist who's won BJSC or had a than one decent finish before.

To me, any song which fits any of those criteria already has a significant advantage over those that don't. Plenty of people know them already and they haven't got to go through the stages of growing on people and realising whether it's good or not. I know that it's highly unlikely anyone is going to send a song that no one knows, but I do think that one's where the vast majority don't know, and certainly 'Joe Public' would never have heard of, are much better.

I can see you getting a bit confused here Freeze :heehee: Try not to worry too much about cheapness. Just send whatever you feel like sending. :P You'll soon form your own interpretation of what's cheap and what isn't.

yes I am

And yes, I'll do that.. or try..

but still.. there is this..

"how major can it be..? "

"top 10, 5 or just the 1 on top?"

probably it would be easier to say something about all the songs we "can" send..?

or no.. the answer to that would be.. "that it's not cheap"..

great.. just great-_-

but even though I find my own interpretation.. and I think I am going to..

if most of you think it is.. (a song I use).. then.. I can't really use that, can i?

It does makes it a bit unfair.. and I dont want to be..

Does this "rule" only count for the UK ones..?

cause.. you know.. it is the hits that are the really good songs..

and I like the really good songs

A song that is currently on chart (depending though e.g. 'Daniel' is the exception): Jai Ho, Love Story

A song that was VERY successful back in the time : Trick Me, Bring Me To Life

A song that is VERY successful on BJ/scheduled for release in the following few weeks. But that's almost all the time THE SAME: Nice Boys, SAY IT (:kink:)/The World Should Revolve Around Me

A song that is sung by an ENORMOUS artist e.g. Rihanna, Leona, Madonna... : Hatin' On The Club

Simple. But this is only MY opinion though ^_^

I'd say so really, with the odd exception, because around about 3/4 of participants are from the UK.

"don't be so hard on yourself".. opinions are important ^_^

(cheap line.. I know..)

but so there are only the songs that are or was.. VERY successful..?

what about the ones that are or was "very" successful? (not in the capital letters)

and can they be just "sucessful", then? (without the "very" or the "VERY")

huh?

there are so many possible definitions that I couldn't possibly come up with them all...I basically agree with Mark's comment though

where does The Girl & The Robot fall in the cheap firing line? seeing as it's released in a few weeks :o

TG&TR is cheap because of the vocalist. Robyn is typical BJ/BJSC fodder. It was always going to get votes for being HER.

The song that WAS successful on BJ is less likely to get a cheap 'hit' that the current favourite. I doubt Nice Boys would have finished that high again.

where does The Girl & The Robot fall in the cheap firing line? seeing as it's released in a few weeks :o

I classify it as 'small' cheap, seeing that the song will not get much attention in the charts (the general opinion, not mine :P ).

My scoring system for voting on tracks in the BJSC is as follows:

Score the track out of 20 on how I rate/like the track.

But then deduct the following points as appropriate:

- 2 If the main artist has an Artist Forum on Buzzjack

- 3 If the song is currently in the UK Top 10 or

- 2 If the song is currently in the UK Top 20 or

- 1 If the song is currently in the Top 75

- 2 If the song was a Top 10 hit within the last 5 years or

- 1 If the song was a UK Top 40 hit within the last 5 years

- 1 If the track is on the new release schedule and is getting radio/video airplay

- 1 If the track is taken from a successful chart album (UK Top 10 or longer running Top 40 album)

- 1 If the artist won a national Pop Idol / X-Factor format show

- 1 If the song is/was a large sized hit in the USA.

Using this example Royksopp ft Robyn - The Boy & The Robot still got my 12 Pts as it was the only song to score 20/20, but did not lose any points as it has yet to receive airplay or have a video completed for it. But no doubt in a month's time it would have lost points for falling foul of some of these "Penalty points".

I'm surprised Robyn doesn't have a forum on here actually, it would surely get more traffic than at least a third of the current ones
