Last week we got all the sevens in the albums with 7 in the 10, 17 in the 20, 27 in the 30, and 37 in the 40! Meanwhile in the singles we got 9 in the 10, 15 in the 20, 29 in the 30, 37 in the 40, and 46 in the 50. Back in 1987, Radio Luxembourg came up with this: (As introduced by Tim Smith, on Tues 28th April 87) 01 02 CAN`T BE WITH YOU TONIGHT - JUDY BOUCHER 02 03 LA ISLA BONITA - MADONNA 03 05 LIVING IN A BOX - LIVING IN A BOX 04 07 THE SLIGHTEST TOUCH - FIVE STAR 05 01 LEAN ON ME - CLUB NOUVEAU 06 NE SHEILA TAKE A BOW - THE SMITHS 07 25 BOY FROM NOWHERE - TOM JONES 08 04 LET IT BE - FERRY AID 09 06 IF YOU LET ME STAY - TERENCE TRENT DARBY 10 13 ANOTHER STEP CLOSER TO YOU - KIM WILDE/JUNIOR GISCOMBE 11 20 NOTHING`S GONNA STOP US NOW - STARSHIP 12 24 (SOMETHING INSIDE) SO STRONG - LABI SIFFRE 13 23 DIAMOND LIGHTS - GLENN AND CHRIS 14 NE TO BE WITH YOU AGAIN - LEVEL 42 15 16 WHY CAN`T I BE WITH YOU - THE CURE 16 09 EVER FALLEN IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE YOU SHOULDN`T OF - FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS 17 22 BIG LOVE - FLEETWOOD MAC 18 NE ALONE AGAIN OR - THE DAMNED 19 NE NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE - SPEAR OF DESTINY 20 10 WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE - BON JOVI 21 28 BOOPS (HERE TO GO) - SLY AND ROBBIE 22 18 RESPECTABLE - MEL AND KIM 23 NE MEET EL PRESIDENTE - DURAN DURAN 24 19 WITH OR WITHOUT YOU - U2 25 26 CARRIE - EUROPE 26 08 LET MY PEOPLE GO GO - RAINMAKERS 27 14 ORDINARY DAY - CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT 28 11 STILL OF THE NIGHT - WHITESNAKE 29 NE APRIL SKIES - JESUS AND MARY CHAIN 30 15 THE IRISH ROVER - POGUES AND DUBLINERS 27 in the 30 for Luxembourg in 1987. The only missed hit was Cameo - Back And Forth. This made it in, on the following week. As Janet Jackson - Let`s Wait A While, and Herb Alpert - Keep Your Eye On Me had already fallen out. Judy Boucher did not get an Official #1, though it did make it on the London Chart. Club Nouveau also never made #1, with the Bill Withers classic. Living In A Box were rated correctly, as was Five Star, and Tom Jones. Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle gave us that unlikely hit (2 Spurs Footballers, of course), jumping on the Celebrity bandwagon...where all should have hits, no matter! It was the return of Labi Siffre after 15 years. The Zeebruge Ferry disater gave us the Ferry Aid appeal record of "Let It Be". One of the better tribute songs I thought. Fleetwood Mac returned to the top 20, with "Big Love"...a song not dis-similar than a certain Spandau Ballet song. Duran Duran were on the slippery slope of hits drying up, and "Meet El Presidente" was definately not their best work. Europe had a 3rd hit...many think the "Final Countdown" was a one hit wonder! I`d pick Rainmakers, Sly And Robbie, and Spear Of Destiny as the better hits that week...just for originallity.
April 27, 200916 yr Hardly new material this week in both charts, its looking rather bleak, I didn't know Morrissey was releasing an album this week as well as a single.
April 27, 200916 yr Hardly new material this week in both charts, its looking rather bleak, I didn't know Morrissey was releasing an album this week as well as a single. It's only a reissue though. Re-release, re-issue, re-package :kink: Thanks Dave No sign of Velvet I guess? :( At least Lady Gaga looks like finally going top 75 with Paparazzi...
April 27, 200916 yr Great for Moz going top 40 atleast with virtually NO airplay whatsoever. :cheer: :cheer: Also good that the underrated "Southpaw Grammar" album will go top 30 atleast.
April 27, 200916 yr I'm thinking Bob is another 'flash at #1 Tuesday to Friday then lose it on Saturday' thing, but I'm not sure how Bob's albums normally go. Cool, a random re-entry of Beatles - 1 :o Edited April 27, 200916 yr by B-rye
April 27, 200916 yr Hardly new material this week in both charts, its looking rather bleak, I didn't know Morrissey was releasing an album this week as well as a single. There are two Moz re-issues this week - as well as 95's "Southpaw Grammar" - 97's "Maladjusted" is also repackaged and surely shouldn't be too far behind its predecessor in the charts? Both have extra tracks, new liner notes and new artwork.
April 27, 200916 yr Does this chart actually mean anything at all? You had Tinchy Stryder at number 16 last week!
April 27, 200916 yr Anyone hazard a guess as to why The Beatles - 1 is re-bounding? It's shot up the Amazon and Play album sales charts too!
April 27, 200916 yr Author Does this chart actually mean anything at all? You had Tinchy Stryder at number 16 last week! Yes we did, but it did take some hours to take off. Even on iTunes! ;) You can`t predict growth, when new entries are based on pre-order info. We don`t have crystal balls...Same as growth on the Maccabees. Only rating at 52 here.
