I just love this girl's rendition of Take That's Never Forget. I think I like it even more than TT's version.

Incidentally - this girl auditioned for Britannia High and Barlow adored her voice and wanted her in saying the producers would be 'mad' to let her go. However ... she failed the audition because her acting apparently wasn't 'up to scratch'. Now if you've watched Britannia High ... you'll know that the acting was crap anyway ... so why they just didn't go for good singers like this girl instead I don't know!

Really cool cover. She sounds like Duffy at the end of her notes.

I think she sounds a little 'less forced' than Duffy! Mind you ... I've seen some people compare her to 'Diana - from X-Factor' - without realising that Pixie has actually been around for longer ... and trying for success via the 'real' route rather than a fickle reality show!

You mean attending the Italia Conti Stage School whose alummi include:

Russell Brand

Kelly Brook

Naomi Campbell

Patsy Kensit

Bonnie Langford

Martine McCutcheon

Louise Redknapp

Lisa Scott-Lee

Lisa Snowdon

Claire Sweeney

Tracey Ullman

Lena Zavaroni

to name a few....

Personally, I think it is very generic in a Joss Stone meets Natasha Beddingfield sort of way. To me it sounds all technique with no real artistry or soul whatsoever.

Give me the original any day of the week.

For new British females in 2009 I'll stick with artists like Little Boots; Marina & The Diamonds; & La Roux rather than some Fame school wannabe.

I remember reading about the Italia Conti Stage School when I was a kid ... and it was something I'd dreamed of attending. Eventually I saw it as some sort of trumped up school for upper middle class snobs. Then further along the road ... other 'stagey' institutions arose and the Italia Conte became the average 'secondary modern'. So no - if you're running her down for attending there then that is your wont! As far as I'm concerned it hasn't given her the easy boost that a show like the X-Factor or Britain's Got Talent would have given her. Besides ... lets put things into perspective ... things are different now! This girl is supporting another act this year (the Saturdays) ... which in day's gone by would have been considered doing the 'pub circuit'. So as far as I'm concerned ... she's done her bit and worked her butt off!

I have to be honest though and agree that ... if Simon Cowell had plucked her from the Italia Conte as a 'surprise' contestant on the X-Factor the way that Leona had been picked (from the ludicrous 'Brits School' - Alex Turner - I apologise and take my hat off to you) ... I'd have been as dismissive as you!

I do find it amusing Norma that you seem to be a music snob and slate people who get into the industry the "easy" way, and yet you support Take That who are the epitome of being manufactured.

Do you not realise that most people who do get their entry into the music industry via reality shows have actually worked extremely hard for years prior to entering? This isn't something they decided to do overnight; the majority like Leona Lewis and Kelly Clarkson had been writing and recording demo albums, doing various gigs and working extremely hard. The fact they eventually had a reality show as their outlet doesn't negate and cancel out any grafting and work they did prior.

All I will say is that you are rather inaccurate regarding Take That as they were hardly an overnight success; and took a long time to get signed and then a long time in music terms to become the biggest boyband of the 1990s. Boyzone or Westlife they were not.

Whilst I'm sure Norma can go on and explain how long Gary Barlow was previously working on the Northern Club Circuit and sending demos off to record companies; management and songwriting publishing companies before he got his big break with Take That.

And I find it amusing that you assume Take That didn't do any grafting because they were manufactured - they still literally worked their arses off doing three gigs a day for quite a few years until they 'made it'!

Yeah - and as TIP mentioned - Barlow was working from the age of 13 in pubs, working men's clubs and labour clubs around the north west before he even got involved with Take That. So really, just as until Nigel Martin Smith came along - Take That and Robbie Williams would never have been heard of, until the X-Factor came along ... its quite clear that Leona Lewis would still be waiting tables. Yes - a good voice would have been overlooked forever ... but it is true.

I couldn't care less where Pixie comes from, she has a good voice and I like her music, and this is a good cover of an already fantastic song :D manufactured pop music can throw up some gems sometimes, Britney's Baby One More Time springs to mind, it's a shame it gets so looked down on when the results can often be so fantastic.

Good for them. Leona Lewis grafted for years until she entered X-Factor and until she 'made it'.

I'm aware the hard work Gary Barlow put in before Take That. But the fact is he needed Take That to get into the music industry and that was his outlet. So because his outlet was manufactured, are you going to negate all the hard work he did prior to it? I'm assuming no. Same thing should apply to people who work hard prior to shows like X-Factor or American Idol.

But as TIP has said - Take That didn't happen overnight! You assume the minute all five of them became the group they immediately became encased in stardust and their paths were paved with gold! They grafted hard for years until they 'made it'. The manager made a lot of sacrifices himself too to contribute to Take That's 'eventual' success. I'm not sure Barlow's activities before becoming part of Take That contributed much to what actually happened with them - apart from giving them some credibility in that here was a boy-band with a group member who actually was a musician. So in a way, yes - although I'm impressed with his work ethic from being a kid ... I suppose I am negating stuff he did before TT.

And I'm sorry ... you go on 'Leona grafted for years until she entered X-Factor' please don't make me laugh! She'd been scarcely out of drama/music school more than a couple of years. Come back and use that expression 'grafted for years' when someone has worked frigging hard for nearly 20 years before they get recognition .... like Elbow! Now compared to Elbow (and there must be dozens of bands/artists out there working away right now) both Take That and Leona DID have overnight success!

And I'm not sure Leona took the decision to do 'X-Factor' herself anyway - from what I've read she was actually selected to 'audition'. I wouldn't be surprised if even before 'X-F' plans would have been made to promote her ... but the show just saved on publicity costs perhaps as it has its built-in audience of 10 million plus per week. I'm not doubting Leona's skill by the way, she's proved that she is a very good singer who can hold her own against Mariah, et al - and in a way - through Leona Lewis - the X-Factor show was given credibility (for a while). I think the show has as much to be grateful to Leona for, as she has to be grateful to it.

I didn't assume that all. I'm merely pointing out his outlet into the music industry was as manufactured as they come so I find it amusing you have a somewhat snobbish attitude. I expect it from people who love the indie bands but not someone who loves a manufactured pop band.

Leona started trying to get into the music industry at 16 and she entered X-Factor at 21. That makes my comment "grafted for years" correct. I never said she grafted for 20 years so I won't "come back" to you with anything.

Don't know where you've read she was selected but it all seems like speculation to me with no proof at all so I wouldn't take it as gospel and build an argument around it.

Ah bless! My heart bleeds for her!

As a habit I don't really admire 'manufactured' bands. Apart from actually liking Ronan Keating as a person I think Boyzone are total pants and Westlife are even worse. And Blue, A1, East 17 and a load of others along the way should have been drowned at birth! Take That are the only exception with me because some of the songs the first time round were actually quite good (although I didn't admit it at the time). They're even better this time round. However ... I am a trifle annoyed at your assumption that I go 'ga ga' at every manufactured band. I would say of all the musicians I've followed over the years, buying music of and going to concerts - TT are the only 'manufactured' ones. I like them alongside ELO, Maroon 5, Led Zep, Deep Purple, loads of others (and I can come out of the closet now and include the Arctic Monkeys in there). Mind you ... probably the first band's music I loved and still do (being from Liverpool I suppose its expected) is the Beatles. While there is no argument that there was brilliant musical genius there all along ... if it wasn't for a bit of 'tweaking and tailoring' and in short 'manufacturing' by Brian Epstein ... one wonders if they would have been the phenomenon that they eventually became.

I think I actually picked it up in your assertion that you expected such 'snobbishness' from 'Indie' fans (which to be honest is a bit of an insult from you to any 'Indie' fans) but not from someone who 'loves a boyband'. And actually - this assumption is incorrect - I love my husband and family - I just happen to like Take That - and as they have scarcely any fans here on buzzjack - it is my duty to champion them!

Look lets call it a day on this! I know you like arguing and you are obviously very fond of Leona - but quite frankly - I can't be arsed! Not even for Take That! Lets just say that I admit that Take That were manufactured - so what? And just because I don't take seriously a staged show like the X-Factor - doesn't make me a snob!

Well you are incorrect because I never assumed you only like manufactured bands, I just know you love TT who are. You also assumed wrong that I like arguing because I don't; I just disagreed with your comment that Pixie did it the "real" way.
