Posted May 3, 200916 yr Okay, I've just been reading a load of Girls Aloud forums and they all seem to think that by getting free downloads (Don't ask) from 7 Digital by using the Virgin7 trick and using multiple email addresses on Mailinator they can help push Untouchable towards the top ten. Somehow, I very much doubt the OCC would allow free purchases to count towards the chart, let alone 100 copies from the same person, but they seem to think they have a very real chance. Can someone shed some light on whether these downloads count towards the top 40, or is it just pie in the sky hopes from GA nutters?
May 3, 200916 yr Author Well, from the sales of 20k, it might be counted. If that's the case, then that would ruin the chart because any old Joe Bloggs could use 7 digital to manipulate the top 10 to his heart's content. I've heard of Mcfly fans texting a number for a song weeks before it's release date to guarantee them a good chart placing, but at least they actually PAY for it. I'd like to believe the OCC aren't as lenient as that. Hopefully, the fact it's cleared 20k is mostly down to the fans going out in force to buy the physical CD, I think I heard it was No 1 in the CD single midweek chart. (Not that that counts for much these days) Also, the extra mixes available on I tunes may have helped it's cause. Sorry for banging on about this but surely a music chart should be an indicator of what the most popular songs in the country are, not a tool for GA fans to try to maintain a meaningless streak by wasting an hour buying the same record for 0p. If it worked for them, whats to stop other loony fan groups doing the same? The whole credibility of the chart could be at stake. Okay, rant over..
May 3, 200916 yr I can say the same as in the GA thread. I'm pretty sure songs that were given for a free voucher are not allowed to chart. For paid vouchers they count. Coldplay - Viva La Vida was a free track at the start and wasn't allowed to chart. Neither Noisettes - Wild Young Hearts although it was number 1 on the Amazon chart but it was for free.
May 3, 200916 yr It's not just Untouchable that's available for free - it's everything on 7Digital. It looks as though Luigi Masi's fans have caught on with the idea too!

May 3, 200916 yr You mean like... every song on 7digital? Isn't that illegal, anyone can get any song for free! Yeah the Virgin Trains voucher lets you get any 3 tracks from 7Digital for free. I think the reason they are counted is that they have actually been paid for by Virgin, rather than they are being given away for free.

In that case then, I think they should go towards the charts sales, they have been paid for.

How do people get these vouchers?
May 3, 200916 yr Its not really free though is it, people are using vouchers given out by virgin trains. The voucher is technically money. Its like if someone gives a gift voucher for a shop to someone, it doesnt mean its free does it?

Its like if someone gives a gift voucher for a shop to someone, it doesnt mean its free does it? They are free because you can get as many songs as you like for nothing, as long as you have extra email addresses. If Virgin really are paying for everything, they're going to lose an awful lot of money on this deal, especially when word gets round. Of course the downloads shouldn't count if Virgin are paying for them, but I don't make the rules. Though I would be surprised if they were allowed. I myself am not too interested in the offer, as I only have I-tunes and the 7 digital downloads won't work on it. BUt if others like it....
May 3, 200916 yr http://www.7digital.com/promotions/virgintrains/default.aspx code is VIRGIN7 and you just put in your email, then in 7digi checkout enter the code.

I dont think you are supposed to create new email addresses though, i dont think thats why virgin did it.
May 3, 200916 yr Author I dont think you are supposed to create new email addresses though, i dont think thats why virgin did it. Perhaps they should have an IP address tracker in, so that every computer can only use the offer once. Or they could use a different codeword other than just virgin7. Either way, you can hardly blame people for taking advantage of getting something for nothing. Perhaps they should have ironed out the bugs in the deal before annoucing it..
