Why the fukk even mention Ga Ga in the interview then.....? It just seems to me like everyone out there's wanting a piece of her, and coming up with these stupid comments, namechecking her rather needlessly and pointlessly... A bit like all these third rate tossers who went around carping on about "girl power" back in the mid-90s.... LAME......

Daily Star could've twisted it anyway they like. I don't see why it would be so bad if a tongue-in-cheek comment was made about Gaga personally. It's not a full-blown insult, they're meerly saying "We're going Gaga for our next video." There's nothing wrong with going sexy in a video, and saying things like that, whether you're as successful as Madonna, or not as successful like The Saturdays.

Just Dance = Most downloaded single by a female ever in the USA (3xPlatinum) and still selling, 3xPlatinum in AUS, Platinum in the UK and NZ

Poker Face = 2xPlatinum in USA and still selling well, 3xPlatinum in AUS, 2xPlatinum in NZ, soon-to-be-Platinum in UK and still selling well, Platinum in Sweden

I don't know where to get other certs but PF has got #1 around the globe.

The Fame Sales = UK ~ 425,550 - WW ~ 1,968,000 and it's still selling strong.

Now what have the Sats got?

Compare & Contrast: The Fame v Chasing Lights Chart Peaks:

The Fame:

USA #4

UK #1

EURO #1

Germany #2

Australia #4

Also topped the album charts in Canada, Ireland, Austria; #2 in Czech Rep, Netherlands, New Zealand; #3 in Finland & Top 5 in Russia, Belgium & Norway.

Chasing Lights:

UK #9

Ireland #34

EURO #46

It has not (yet) gone Top 40 in any other territory.

I think you'll find that less than 2 million albums sold globally and 425k in the UK off the back of the two of the very biggest singles of the past six months is certainly nothing impressive...

It's hardly the same to say the Sats aren't at 2 million yet - well, duh, their deal is a UK deal, not an international one, and God knows, GaGa has had an immense amount of promotion. As much as it's possible to have!

It aint a full-blown insult, but it sure is a bit naff.... It's just so "hey, who's the flavour of the month, who's getting loads of press - oh it's artist x, so let's say in our next interview, our new style's gonna be more like artist x to shift a few more units"....

And I think this perfectly illustrates the rather stark contrast... Cheers Rich....

... As for their original comment, well it is only natural to mention the biggest star in the World right now as opposed to mentioning Pussycat Dolls or Girls Aloud whom in truth they are more influenced by.

Personally, considering the amount of hype they had before they started out the singles they released from their debut album were a huge disappointment.

The irony is that I would not write them off becoming a major act in the first half of the next decade as their Radio 1 Live Lounge performance of The Four Seasons' Beggin' was really good, vastly superior to any single release by them so far IMHO.

Whilst with the Sugababes (sadly) in commercial decline minus Mutya; the Pussycat Dolls on the brink of implosion with Nicole about to do her Diana Ross to the Supremes impression & Girls Aloud taking a year's sabbatical for solo projects (Those of us old enough remember the four remaining Spice Girls doing that at the close of 2000 & despite having signed a new album contract with EMI they never recorded another studio album did they); the market could suddenly open up for a really good second album after an over-hyped and underwhelming debut (aka the Lily Allen syndrome) for this girl group.

..... Anyway I'm saving up my (musical bile) for the UK's most hyped pop act of 2009 ........ Pixie Lott.

If her debut single which she co-wrote goes to #1 (on June 14th) which with the hype already surrounding her is a very possible, then she will replace Kate Bush as the youngest British female to write and record a UK#1 hit .....

Comparing GaGa with Sats sales/chartwise is load of ********. <_<

Just how the blue blazes do you make that out then....? In what ways are they dis-similar then...?

Ga Ga - a female mainstream pop act who's released a debut album

The Saturdays - a female, mainstream pop act who's released a debut album

Like, yeah, they're SOOOOOOOOOO far at the opposite ends of the musical spectrum innit, just why is it unreasonable to compare the sales of two mainstream popular acts.......?

Cant just be because the overall standard of Ga Ga's actual music is better can it....? I've listened to Chasing Lights, and absolute cheapness , sub-standardness and tat permeates all through it like the word "Blackpool" does through a stick of rock, the songs are awful and the production is cheesy and rather cheap...... Whereas 'The Fame' in terms of songwriting and production is simply in a different league....

Well, no she wouldn't replace Kate Bush in those terms mate, The Mighty Bush wrote "Wuthering Heights" and her entire debut album all on her own.... ;)

I think it's pretty funny that this has gone as far as it has done.

It was one little comment made by Mollie and some of you have taken that and ran with it.

It's been close to a year now since the whole "WE HATE THE SATURDAYS" campaign started, don't you think it's about time it all stopped?

4 pages of "The Saturdays shouldn't compare themselves to Lady GaGa" when they're really not, and making references to bands that people in the POP forum really couldn't care less about, is tiring.

It was a tongue in cheek comment, get over it.

They will be massive with their next album and anyone who thinks otherwise is in denial.

Yeah, so tiring which is why it's gotten so many replies... Couldn't just be because it's NOT a "let's all kiss the Saturdays arses" thread could it...? Bugger off back to the Saturdays Arse-licker forum mate because you clearly cannot handle a bit of criticism about your "idols"........ This is the POP Forum mate, we're not obliged to kiss Mollie or Frankie's sodding buttcheeks here...... Which is why you wont see ME near anywhere near your wretched Forum.....

I don't think they meant GaGa's look tbh - I think they just mean they gonna get sexed up.

Which brings us back to the question..... WHY. MENTION. GA GA. AT. ALL....? I think the point could just as easily have been made simply by saying "we're gonna do a really sexed-up video for our next single...". What do you think....?

^^ that was a bit OTT though Grimly

I think you'll find that The Fame is still selling well(#4 WW this week) so by no means will the total be 2million.

I also think you'll find that only selling about 300k in the UK(do you have an updated figure?) off the back of 3 top 10 hits aswell as a comic relief single and re-release is certainly less impressive than The Fame which you claim to be such a flop.

Well, sorry, but I just get a little fed up of the attitudes of Saturdays fans tbh... I remember what happened to Kate (Blah Blah Bland) on that forum... I mean, a bloody 10% warning JUST for making a joke ffs, well out of order.... The Pop Forum is NOT an extension of their sad, fanboy idol-worshippery, but it doesn't seem to stop some of them from thinking this.... This is a GENERAL, non-fan forum where we CAN make criticisms of acts....

If they dont like the direction that the debate is taking, well, no one is forcing them to contribute... But they certainly have no right whatsoever to imply that the criticism of their favourite act shouldn't have the same opportunity to be debated as the praise......

^^ I agree with you there. About the praise and the criticism.

Just a shame that some of your colleagues dont have the same sort of enlightened attitude..... :)

The facts are, even if I DID vaguely like the Sats, I still wouldn't use the Forum because of the attitude some members copped with Kate.... It just left a pretty bad taste in the mouth that did....

The Saturdays are certainly going to stay for at least a few more years if the second album is more successful than CL, when they will probably break up. GaGa is the same but without the breaking up.

If Girls Aloud do really well in their solo efforts i can't see them reuniting, but if they don't i think they will only have 1 more studio album and a GH left in them.

PCD look likely to break up for good soon.

Sugababes look like they are going to be back with a bang, internationally now that they are the first UK Pop Act to be signed to Jay-Z's label.

Leaving a path for new girl groups or maybe even a few boy groups again.
