Posted May 17, 200916 yr Now that the final is over () for another year, what were your thoughts on the performances and results? Whose performances disappointed you? Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? And anything else you wanna tell us :P
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? France - what a load of $h!te. Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Albania Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? - Ireland, Slovenia And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? Iceland  i had hoped top3, but in reality i didn't really expect it, especially after the first few votes. Norway was a great winner, Iceland a superb runner up total shame they didn't win. They really really really deserved it. Johanna was flawless
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? Sweden,Germany, Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Estonia,Albania Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Malta,Spain And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? UK,Greece I forgot these! Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Ireland,Ulraine, Sweden though disappointing performance, it still deserved better, Edited May 17, 200916 yr by geremija
May 17, 200916 yr I'll have a go. I'll also add my other thoughts. :) Whose performances disappointed you? Albania. Great voice, but the blue Spiderman really pissed all over it. Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? France. I always liked the song, but I never thought she'd pull out such a great performance. :) Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Spain! It didn't deserve the placing it got. I'm stumped as to why it was joint 23rd! :o And SWEDEN. :snif: And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? The UK. Jade has a great voice, no doubt about it, but I never really liked the song. 5th was still a great place, though. :) I never expected Iceland to come 2nd. I predicted around 6th or 7th, but 2nd was awesome. :w00t: Other thoughts: Even though I would have loved to have seen Ireland in the final, I'm kind of glad we didn't get through because I think we might have done a Finland on it and completely flopped. I didn't care much for Turkey or Greece's song, so I'm a bit cheesed that they were in the top 10, but I guess that's life. :P I would have liked France to have been top 5, maybe in Turkey's place. 8th was a bit disappointing, but still top 10. :cheer:
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? France... just doesn't seem right...but ok song Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Estonia? Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? SPAIN...GERMANY!!! And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? Iceland Azerbaijan :drama: :manson:   <_< :o  Should have won Ditta von Teese o.o :smoke: Edited May 17, 200916 yr by Sttefan
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? Israel: I quite liked their semi performance, but the final just seemed a bit off to me. Finland: The studio version of this is great, but they had poor vocals on both nights. Switzerland: Again, good studio version but poor vocals live. Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Albania: Upon first seeing her and her dancers costumes I was a bit freaked out, but her vocals more than made up for it. Russia: I know I'm in the minority here, but think this is a great song, not one of the best I'll admit, but still better than several there. Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Ukraine: I imagine most people on this forum thought this was a definate top 10 (me included) so it was a surprise for it to be where it was. Slovenia: They really should have gotten the jury pick over Croatia, that's all I'm going to say. Greece: I thought this was a definate top 5 song, if not top 3, so it was suprising (but good) that they stumbled. And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? Iceland: I didn't think they'd get 2nd, but I'm glad they did, without a doubt the best ballad on the night. UK: I didn't expect top 5, but it's certainly not a bad thing. Estonia: Amazing song, I'd have loved this top have been top 5 instead of Turkey or Azerbaijan, but I'm still thrilled that they got top 10. Additional thoughts: A brilliant final, with only 1 one song I'd say that I didn't like at all (Croatia). I'd have rather that Iceland (although it's probably best that they didn't really), the UK or Estonia won based my feelings now, but Norway was certainly a good winner either way! May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? Sweden, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Denmark Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Greece, Croatia Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Israel, Portugal, Moldova, Ukraine, Montenegro, Poland And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? Iceland, Norway Woo.
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? Croatia, France and Isreal i didnt like them at all and croatia should have never went through Whose (unexpectedly) Spain really enjoyed it n the night i cant figure why they done so bad Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Ireland i knew we would never win but i still think it deserved to be in the final, sweden malta and spain deserved much higher And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? Iceland, Norway i like both songs and i can see their appeal but i wouldnt out them top 5 azerbaijan did great and i loved the song and i was delighted the Uk did so well as it was great I have to say it was the best final in years in every aspect (apart from no Ireland!!) the top 10 was good all what i called songs got high votes and any of the top 10 this year was better than last years winners, the 50 50 jury and telelvoting worked very well and overall im happy with this years show, block voting existed in parts but music won through in the end so no complaints from me.
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you?: I was very disappointed with Sweden actually...Croatia was crap because it was crap anyway, so fair enough on that one :P Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you?: I was VERY shocked by how good Estonia and Albania were actually! And Germany wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected (but what the hell was he wearing?!). Jade's recovery from getting hit by a violin was quite good :P Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low?: Albania quite definitely. Didn't deserve to do that badly...I blame the Smurf thing she had with her. Ukraine as well! And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard?: In a bad way, Turkey. Definitely didn't deserve to finish 4th with that weirdo onstage with them dressed casually :/ In a good way though, Iceland (), Estonia and France definitely exceeded my expectations, as did the UK a little bit. And I was not expecting such a landslide for Norway! :o
May 17, 200916 yr i dont like runaway winners as it takes the excitment away remember 98 betweeen israel and malta down to the last vote likewise in 93 between ireland and the uk i love nail bitting finishes as its far more exciting i still think the highest top 10 songs in the final should go through the next year as that also kept things exciting as those in the top 10 who werent in with winning would have the excitment of holding a top 10 place to automatically qualify for the followimg year
May 17, 200916 yr That would be so so so unfair though :P Think how much crap we would've had this year and last year in the final if that had happened...
May 17, 200916 yr in that way it probably would refect on the music for for the excitement factor it would be great
May 17, 200916 yr Yeah, but it wouldn't reflect on the next year's music ;) Oro from Serbia was fantastic last year but Cipela was awful...
May 17, 200916 yr most of last years top 10 countries did well this year apart from russia and serbia i think???
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? Turkey: Really like the song but her vocals were quite shouty and angry. A bit like she was trying so hard and went too far. Finland: Just because they had bad vocals, I love the song. There were others but I didn't really like them to begin with so I wasn't 'disappointed'. Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Germany: Was originally one of my least favourite finalists but the performance was rather good. Sweden: I think this was more to do with the songs she was placed around than the actual performace. Eurovision got off to such as weak start that this was a welcome bit of enjoyment. Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Too High: France (so DULL), Russia (11th?! Should have been 24th), Norway (rubbish, let down a near perfect top 5) Too Low: Malta and Sweden. (I kinda felt sorry for them both) Finland's song didn't deserve last but the performance was to blame. And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? Iceland (thought it would have been low top 10, not second) UK (same as Iceland, though I was really hoping for a top 3 after the good start) Estonia (I know it was well acclaimed and stuff but I thought it'd go midtable at best)
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? Germany, I liked the promo video but I really didn't like the performance :puke2:, Greece was also really dissapointing for me. Whose (unexpectedly) impressed you? Iceland, Israel, Albania, United Kingdom Who did you think placed unfairly or surprisingly low? Albania and Finland should have done far better (especially Albania) and Slovenia should have qualified from the semis And who exceeded your expectations on the final leaderboard? Iceland, Estonia, United Kingdom, Portugal, France (I really like all of these songs but I didn't expect them to do too well, so I was surprised at how good they all did.
May 17, 200916 yr This year was definetly high-caliber stuff (dont like the winning song though!). Estonia - what an awesome tune, very Enyaesque with a nice electronica element to it as well. The steady kickdrum towards the end was a great surprise, it went awesomely! Sweden - really upset it did not do better. Excellent vocal and a good remix can turn this into a proper vocal-trance anthemn. Very uplifting but it was not want Europe wanted. Written by the same dude who wrote Swedens Hero last year. Portugal - Where to start this tune just makes you wanna shake your hips and smile. Excellent tune and the band has real talent. All the best to them. Iceland - Brilliantly done, a very feel-good song and top-drawer delivery from Yohanna who sang it from the heart. Bosnia & Herzegovina - Wicked anthemn here, the chorus just makes you wanna stand to attention and salute! I like the "poster-pose" where she held up the red cloth. Great band, they deserved more. Denmark - cant deny it...its a catchy track and this one had my GF boppin along! Romania - A sweet chorus that sticks in your head but Im not so sure who sang the lead. Was it lip-synched? And I wish the cameras had acknowledged that other (who gave the real vocal?) singer in the corner! Armenia - Sorry but :puke: Norway - Sorry but :puke: again Edited May 17, 200916 yr by KatanaDV20
May 17, 200916 yr Whose performances disappointed you? Turkey: Really like the song but her vocals were quite shouty and angry. A bit like she was trying so hard and went too far I TOTALLY agree, in fact if you watch her ealier performances you will see how nice the song is. Much more relaxed, check it out: WuNLYbEB32g Now why didnt she sing it like that in the final! Edited May 17, 200916 yr by KatanaDV20
May 18, 200916 yr Author ^ I think that's a performance with the studio version dubbed over  There' no noise at all from the crowd, and it sounds identicle to the version on my iPod :kink:
