although I utilised it when I hosted, I don't care much for the 'artist' confirmation separate week either to be honest :o

I'd rather each contest lasted for 3 weeks instead of 4, and then just had a slightly longer gap in the middle

Oh :( Well it's up to you haha, you're in charge.

I am going to say go for it.

On ONE condition, as long as about 95% of those who have reserved artists confirm by monday night, then you can start the semis then, if not, then it'll be as planned.

If you agree to that condition then go ahead.

*waits for backlash against Phil and James for introducing this change despite everybody not being here to give their opinion* :kink:

It really is

If the majority needs more time, then the dates will go back to what they were.

and everyone will call you indecisive :kink:

one thing to know about being a BJSC mod is that whatever you do, it is NEVER the right decision :heehee:

Oh hell yeah,

but there is an advantage to being GMT+10

I'm not here for the whining :kink:

This is why it's good to not care and be backed up by the other mods :kink:

Oh and for Herzebania to not be around

I'd advise picking some dates at the start and sticking to them. I wasn't going to pop on until the middle of next week to do my confirmation so it's lucky I saw the change today. I've got nothing in principle against 3 weeks v 4 weeks, and like gooddelta I think a week off in between would be good, but once the dates for XVII were announced they shouldn't have been changed. Posters could easily be away for a long weekend from today and would miss out.

I'd also suggest that a date/time for the reservation thread to be opened should be posted and stuck to otherwise it becomes a bit of a mockery - it was opened at least 12 hours earlier for this edition than originally posted on Sunday afternoon. Come Monday lunchtime and checking the forum I find virtually every artist known to man has been reserved ahead of when the thread was meant to be opened.

And it begins.

I am going to say this once,

Because of the sudden change there is a fallback clause.

Confirmation will only close if 95% of those who have reserved artists confirm by 8pm Monday.

The switch was not intended to catch anybody out unaware, and the condition was imposed to prevent people missing out who hadn't been online over the weekend.

I broadly agree with this. Once you set up some dates they should be stuck with. However I have always found the two weeks for reservation and confirmation threads too long, and I much prefer the contest all over in a three week period.

Hence in this case I think the host should PM the members who have reserved artists, to inform them of the change to give them time to confirm their entries.

I agree. Personally I think the host of the last contest should open the reservation thread for the next contest, at the point they start to do the countdown of the Final results. Then the last duty of the existing host should be to update that artist reservation thread for the next contest to hand it over to the host of the next contest as the artist confirmation thread.

I agree about sticking with the dates...and why we can't have it like the same dates for each month.

Arg that means I've got to bloody well decide on who I'm gonna send!!!!!

We let the person running the contest each month decide the dates which best suit them which is why we do not dictate when each contest is each month. I thought James was doing his A-Levels atm so not 100% sure he would want the contest any earlier (I've got exams too! -_- ) so the later the better for me. but whatever is best for James

Because the hosts can't always do it at all points, they have other things in their lives. And you'd end up with different days all the time, it works best on Sunday evenings.

a heads up for anyone that liked Jamali's Secrets;

their current album (16 tracks!) is only £1.19 on iTunes :o

Oh, I've just remembered. Rich owes us a Slovakian rock track for XVIII now that RFC's ensured nobody's sending Battlefield to this contest! :kink:
I was hoping nobody would bring that one up, I have actually started searching for one but it's been fruitless so far unsurprisingly :heehee:
