July 3, 200916 yr I think Michael Owen could be one of Fergie's most inspired signings ever. If he stays fit, he will score goals. I think if he plays as many minutes as Tevez did last season he'd score twice as many goals. It's a top quality signing, and really the only Premier League clubs Owen could only sign for are the top 4 or possibly Spurs. Every other team he'd probably need to play the majority of their games, something he's highly unlikely to be capable of. For Man Utd he'll have plenty of rest time, which is what he needs for at least a season. I read somewhere that he had 16 different injuries in his time at Newcastle, I really see the guy spending 80% of his time on the treatmant table If fit he could be a good bargain but don't see him being fit much
July 3, 200916 yr Author Yes it's 'if' he stays fit, which is the big question. It's a cliche to say "if he's fit, he'll score goals", which while true, he's not scored 20 goals a season for a long, long time. While his ability is there he's lost every ounce of that extra speed he used to have. He's still a quality player but his injury record is just out of this world. Add this to fact he's an utter bellend. I used to worship the ground he stood on when I was younger, but i've come to see what he really is now - full on mong. More worried about his England caps than the club he plays for. Could work out to be a good signing, and if it does, Fergie will probably be made out to be the messiah by the media. But at the end of the day his injury record is pure $h!te, and if I was a Man Utd fan, you've gone just gone from signing one of the best young striking talents in the world, to signing an injured crock!
July 3, 200916 yr I read somewhere that he had 16 different injuries in his time at Newcastle, Which Newcastle players haven't? It's well documented the amount of injuries Newcastle's players have had for the last few years. It's probably the worst place for him to be, I'm sure the fitness staff at Man Utd are in a different league and what he says about actually getting a pre-season for once will be a MASSIVE help. Also, at Newcastle he was too crucial. As soon as he comes back to anything like fitness, he had to play for far more time than he should do because they needed him so much and their other strikers had too many injuries too. That's almost certainly not going to be the case at Man Utd. If he gets injured, then for the first time in four years he'll actually be able to be nursed back to fitness at a rate which will benefit him, not hinder him. The fitness people at Newcastle were highly rated from what i've read. It's just their training ground was like concerete, and that's what caused so many injuries. I don't think it's down to fitness people. Some players are just naturally injury prone and no matter how good the coaches are, they can't prevent them from getting injured on pitch - and Michael Owen is one of those players.
July 3, 200916 yr oh  what a signing. From selling the world's best player, to signing a player who spends more time on a treatment table than is humanly possible. Obviously Man Utd can't get any of their targets and it's a desperate attempt to sign someone :kink:

July 4, 200916 yr It is pretty low of Owen to do what he did tbh, spending most of his career as a dipper he would know the intense even hate filled rivalry between the 2 teams and he goes and does that Last summer we tried to sign Patrick Vieira from Italy and he told Spurs that he could never sign for them because of the fact he had played for Arsenal and out of respect for Arsenal fans he would never join us, Owen should have shown more respect
July 4, 200916 yr It is pretty low of Owen to do what he did tbh, spending most of his career as a dipper he would know the intense even hate filled rivalry between the 2 teams and he goes and does that So I suppose it was ok for Paul Ince to go to Liverpool then? He'll get a few boos from he goes back to Anfield but usually when an old player goes back they usually clap him even though for some reason he was never liked that much when he was at Liverpool (Robbie Fowler overshadowed him) I think this COULD be an excellent signing, we gave him quite an intense medical and over the years I've learned never to question Fergie's judgement on players (I even kept my mouth shut when he was looking at Anelka  ) but as RFC said it's not like he's the most important player in the side so if we put him back in the side when he's ready. Even if he doesn't play that much then he's probably thinking if Foster can get in the side sitting on our bench then when they can't he :P I see this as a brilliant way to replace Tevez on the cheap and now we have £80M to get some midfielders with Giggs and Scholes getting old and Hargreaves' career looking grim. :( Also maybe David Bentley should have shown respect to Arsenal not to play for Spurs.. What about Anelka and Petit to Arsenal? Tevez to us <_< Players who frequently go directly between Liverpool and Everton (Barmby for example) as well! This is the perfect opportunity for Owen and I don't see why he should turn it down when he left Liverpool YEARS ago and it's not like a lot of the fans liked him very much anyway! If he can get his fitness levels up then there is no man better than Fergie to get his confidence up again.
July 4, 200916 yr It is pretty low of Owen to do what he did tbh, spending most of his career as a dipper he would know the intense even hate filled rivalry between the 2 teams and he goes and does that He left 5 years ago and he's 29 now. That gives him well over a half of his professional career away from Liverpool. And I'm sure he was raised an Everton fan anyway? Not 100% sure though... Oh, and no disrespect but Vieira joining Spurs would've been a massive step down. If Owen didn't join Man Utd who was he going to be playing for? Hull? Edited July 4, 200916 yr by RabbitFurCoat

Not 100% sure though... Yes, like Stevie G & Carra he was a toffee. Hence, as a Liverpool supporter I have absolutely no problem him joining whatever club he wants (after all we had "The Guv'nor" play for us, after he had left Old Trafford). Especially if SAF can get him to rediscover his world class form in time for the 2010 World Cup Finals. I'm just gutted that Rafa did not take a chance on signing him at Stevie G's & Carra's request, after all lets be honest he offers better value for money gamble than Voronin & Ngog currently do. :(
July 4, 200916 yr Author Owen will get booed to $h!t when he comes back to Anfield. It doesn't normally happen to former players, but Owen's crossed the line with this one. He was my childhood idol, and when he was good there was no player like him. But then little Michael shafted us for Real Madrid to win trophies. For a player of his ability we got £8m for him all because he was a selfish c**t. Now if that was it then fine. But now he goes to Man Utd. This is too far. There's a certain loyalty in football, especially for top players. Just like you'd never see Scholes or Rooney going to Liverpool or Carra and Gerrard to Man Utd no matter how much money was offered to them. All Michael Owen thinks about is himself, his horses and his bloody England caps. It's a pathetic attempt to re-light his career. He's going to a club where their fans actively sing about hating scousers, and Hillsbrough chants. And regardless of the fact he was an Everton fan in his youth, he was a Liverpool player for his whole life until he moved to Real Madrid. It's just sickening tbh. I just to idolise him, now if he broke his legs and his career was ended I couldn't give a toss, because he's a c**t. Lost all respect I had for the bloke. Hope it's an absolute f*** up for him. Looking on the brighter side of things though, on one day a Liverpool legend was gone forever, the biggest Liverpool legend of them all returned to the club. That is the best deal Liverpool FC will do all summer.
July 5, 200916 yr Its all a battle for 2nd next season anyways Man City have all but won this years Premiership its a question of how much by, Utd are severely weakened by the loss of Ronaldo, Chelsea are rebuilding and if as is likely they lose Terry to City they will struggle next season, you guys are the best bet for 2nd tbh with probably Utd 3rd and Chelsea 4th
July 5, 200916 yr You really are massively over-rating City, they're not going to win the League. And as if John Terry will go, even if they offered Chelsea an offer they couldn't refuse I'd still be pretty sure that he would... I do think they might finish inside the top 4 though, I like what Mark Hughes is doing in signing proven Premiership players like Given, Bridge, Barry, Bellamy etc but they aren't going to win the league. They're signing and are linked with too many stikers. Tevez, Eto'o, Bellamy, Santa Cruz, Robinho along with the 5 or 6 others they already have. They can't play that many, and most are massively over-rated anyway. Santa Cruz is, Robinho is, Tevez definitely is! Edited July 5, 200916 yr by RabbitFurCoat

Someone I know who is a City fan and told me about Corluka to us before it even hit the media and told me not to worry when it looked like the transfer was off, knows people at City said that City have signed or are close to signing Eto'o Pirlo Robben Terry Tevez And that all 5 will be unveiled at a massive press conference in Abu Dhabi later this month If he has called it right then everyone else might as well pack up and go home Given Richards Bridge Kompany Terry Barry Pirlo Robinho Eto'o Tevez Robben And with subs like Santa Cruz, Ireland, Wright Phillips and so on I really can't see any other EPL winner this season
July 6, 200916 yr Author With those players they'd still not win the league... Pirlo especially imo, if wayy too weak to make it in the PL. Man City need a leader before they do anything and Terry is that player. But i'd put Terry in that list of untouchables. I mean WHY would he move there? He's got more chance of winning stuff at Chelsea. Alright he might get more money but he's hardly on peanuts at Chelsea. If he goes then i'll lose quite a bit of respect for him, although I guess he'd give the reason for leaving that he didn't feel wanted by Ancelotti...
July 6, 200916 yr Don't bet on it Josh, ok tabloid newspapers are not the most credible and reliable of sources but there is a lot of smoke around this morning and as the saying goes there is no smoke wihtout fire
July 6, 200916 yr Author Don't bet on it Josh, ok tabloid newspapers are not the most credible and reliable of sources but there is a lot of smoke around this morning and as the saying goes there is no smoke wihtout fire Well there's no denying Man City are interested in him, but even if they stump up a bid that will be accepted by Chelsea, it doesn't mean to say JT will leave. Just look at Kaka or Eto'o.
July 6, 200916 yr If the rumours that are going around tonight are true I think somehow this transfer will not be happening in the next 4 years :o :o Edited July 6, 200916 yr by B.A Baracus
July 6, 200916 yr  City win the league? Pur-leeeease! They can sign all they want, but it takes time for a team to gel, and Mark Hughes I just don't see as the right man to lead a team of superstars to glory. Even Sven managed to qualify for Europe by the backdoor
