A single showing of Neighbours got 7.55...and Home And Away`s single episode got 6.00. Neither would have even made the top 20...a tv company con all round! The Mon/Weds/Fri 7pm ITV shows were Busman`s Holiday (a quiz hosted by Sarah Kennedy in 1990, the original host was Julian Pettifer), three groups of people in different professions answer questions in order to win an exotic holiday...when they get the holiday, they have to work there! Pretty gruesome stuff! This Is Your Life was on Wednesdays for Michael Aspel. Friday at 7pm, gave us "Through The Keyhole"...David Frost as the host, as 3 celebrities had to guess two houses, celebrity owners...as visited by Lloyd "Who lives in a house like this" Grossman. The panel were Chris Tarrant, Eve Pollard, and Willie Rushton. Michael Barrymore was having better days as host of "Strike It Lucky", on Thursdays (directly after the Bill, at 8.30). If you ever had the misfortune to see Michael Barrymore in a live show...then you have my deepest sympathy ;) The Cup Final went to a replay...Man Utd v Crystal Palace. In the first game it was 3-3, the replay was 1-0. No surprises, as Utd triumphed again. Emmerdale was not doing too brilliantly (Tues/Thurs 7pm)...I see to remember the BBC, doing a tv version of Trivial Pursuit on Tuesdays at 7pm, with Rory McGrath. A Kind Of Magic, was an 8pm Wednesday show, for ITV...hosted by Ronn Lucas (an American ventriloquist, with a dragon called Scorch). Mistress Of Suspense was a series of Thrillers, based on short stories by Patricia Highsmith...the first 6 were fimed in the UK, the second 6 in France. Other Countries that showed the series knew the programmes as "Chillers". Taggart had us gripped, as Mark McManus played Jim Taggart (Jim sadly passed away in 1994, while filming an episode). Taggart - The Movie was a re-showing of the pilot episode from 1983. Trading Places was a showing of the 1983 film, starring the late Denholm Elliot, and Dan Ackroyd...where the 2 switch places, Investor meets Con Artist. Sit-coms came via Central`s re-make of U.S. giant "Who`s The Boss", as "The Upper Hand" was virtually copied word for word. The Two Of Us was Nicholas Lyndhurst and Janet Dibley (as Ashley and Elaine) living together with different views on life. Surgical Spirit was the loud mouthed Sheila Sabatini played by Nicola McAuliffe, divorcing the Italian "Remo". Then taking up a relationship with fellow hospital worker "Dr Jonathon Haslam", played by Duncan Preston. Soul II Soul quickly took over for 3 weeks. Now 17 had had 3 weeks a-top too. More greatest hits with The Carpenters, and Big Country. Phil Collins was slipping, he did have 13 weeks at #1 with "But Seriously". UB40 did their 2nd Labour Of Love peaking at #6. New Kids went back up, after the single "Cover Girl" appeared. Classic Experience II was a compilation featuring classical pieces "The Nutcracker Suite" etc. Paula Abdul fell after peaking at #4. The B-52`s rose again after "Roam" appeared as the single. Nigel Kennedy gave us more Classical pieces as the Punk Of The Classics. Soul Provider was up and down for Michael Bolton. Pavarotti awaited the World Cup. The Pretenders "Packed" their hits together. More packaged together Dance Hits from Telstar, on "Get On This!!!" Alannah Miles did alright with a #4 album. Gary Moore was see-sawing and "Still Had The Blues". Fleetwood Mac did get to #1 for 3 weeks, but never achieved a hit single from it. Sinead O`Conner got her year with 1990, a #1 album, and single. He was originally in a Schoolboy duo called Stupid Babies. Adamski was the instrumentalist on "Killer", but the singing part was provided by Seal. The World Cup (in Italy in 1990), gave England a credible single, as the squad teamed up with New Order. John Barnes et al "We`re Playing For England...EN-GER-LAND!! Pavarotti proved popular as the chosen BBC World Cup theme with "Nessun Dorma", which later made it in the chart to #2. The Chimes upset U2 fans, with a cover. En Vogue proved a good airplay number. Don Pablo`s Animals took a 60s track and basically took the words off it. Early Summer anthems also proved well for the Adventures Of Stevie V..."Dirty Cash" was everywhere and Kylie too, as we burned in the late May very hot sunshine. Beats International (along with Norman Cook) didn`t do the business like "Dub Be Good To Me". Rather cheesey was the New Kids On The Block`s"Cover Girl". Michael Bolton was very popular in terms of Independant Radio`s airplay. Was (Not Was) returned with a Temptations hit from 1972. B52`s went roaming, and followed up "Love Shack". Well remembered was their minor 1979 hit "Rock Lobster", also getting airplay in 1990. We took one step forward and two steps back for Canadian, Paula Abdul because "Opposites Attract" This was even bigger than 1989`s "Straight Up". Depeche Mode clambered up the chart, reached #14...then fell straight back down fast. A hell of a lot of "I haven`t heard that for ages" in this chart. The likes of Mantronix, Erasure, Pasadenas, Sam Brown, Hothouse Flowers, Movement 98, Little Angels, Dusty Springfield, and Plus One...all these songs probably not heard since 1990! Then, going the other way Madonna, and Snap rather a little overplayed. Always wonder why Paul Young did a cover of a Congregation song from 1971? He kind of became the King of the remake, in vain of Shakin`Stevens and Dave Edmunds. The Radio One line-up on Radio One in 1990, still included Simon Bates & Steve Wright...both were still thrashing out Step On by the Happy Mondays, and A Dream`s A Dream by Soul II Soul, this week as they both clambered out of the chart. A bunch of songs in that 41 - 50 probably never got played much in 1990, let alone today...D-Shake, Biz Markie, Kym Mazelle, Tommy Page, and Coldcut/Queen Latifah. All doing songs, very much forgotten...Could be a title for a Radio series! Shall I talk about the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest? The 35th Contest was held in the former Yugoslavia. Our entry "Give A Little Love Back To The World" by Emma came 6th. Toto Cotugno won, for Italy. The song was "Insieme 1992" (Together 1992). In a tribute to the European Union that came in 1992. May 29, 200916 yr Kasabian, Placebo, Black Eyed Peas and Little Boots all released on the 8th June?! Busy week! I'd love Placebo to do the best out of them all, but I fear it'll do the worst. :( (or maybe it'll do better than Little Boots at least)
May 29, 200916 yr Great singles list from 1990. :cheer: :cheer: So many wonderful classics on there - too many to mention! Pixie Lott will be massive. :o :o
May 29, 200916 yr One of my favourite charts from 1990 Paul Abdul Opposites Attract  Madonna Vogue  and many more. I can see the Pixie Lott track doing quite well, at least it breaks the trend of the current #1s less of the chavvy tracks, sorry I just get that word out of my brain. Glad to see you back Trevs.
May 29, 200916 yr Thanks Dave and hi Trevs Looking pretty good for the Pet Shop Boys... I hope they can go at least top 30 next week...

Now, Dave`s been going on and on complaining about the change to Hit40uk (Independant Radio`s ghastly show). Of course he`s right by saying why don`t they knock the airplay into touch? Infact, if they did (based around iTunes) they would be much ahead (which is what they want), but Richard Park can`t get it right, for his love of the Capital $h!te playlist! Just for interests point, Dave got the day`s sweep of iTunes download top 20. May 29, 200916 yr Can people stop going on about chav music, it's not a genre and chavs listen to almost everything, i like all but one song in the Top 10 which is Red and i'm not a chav.
May 29, 200916 yr Author Can people stop going on about chav music, it's not a genre and chavs listen to almost everything, i like all but one song in the Top 10 which is Red and i'm not a chav. Personally I wouldn`t really put Daniel in the "Chav" frame. Anyway I always think "Chavs" are usually female buyers of dodgy rappy music, who wear cheap jewellery (hoop earings etc), and have a number of kids, and never go to work. That would be a "Chav" to me. :teresa:

I know what you're saying, but there is clearly a certain type of music that you'll hear coming out of the mobile phones of tatooed shirtless (well it is summer almost) sixteen year olds on the backof buses  Anyway, thanks Trevs :D What's the chances of Agnes being number 2 by Sunday, or could she slip (hope not!)?

That just act 16! I`m back now, Tom...Could she be #2 by Sunday? In a word..."Unlikely".
May 29, 200916 yr If Dizzee and BEP are being considered as chavvy artists, in next week's preview, please can Agnes be described as chavvy too? :D In all seriousness though, I really don't understand how Agnes has reached that high! :puke2: It's like Love Story all over again (as in, awful songs reaching high in the chart, not similar in style).
May 29, 200916 yr I'm a bit put off by you, guys, it makes BuzzJack feels like hell for guests to sign up. ;) 01 MAMA DO - PIXIE LOTT 8th June 02 BULLETPROOF - LA ROUX 15th June 03 DID YOU SEE ME COMING - PET SHOP BOYS 1st June 04 FIRE - KASABIAN 1st June 05 SAID IT ALL - TAKE THAT 15th June and so on...Good pre-orders chart. :o I reckon Pixie and La Roux can get at least 1k physicals sold, that doesn't say much though. Can people stop going on about chav music, it's not a genre and chavs listen to almost everything, i like all but one song in the Top 10 which is Red and i'm not a chav. That makes me a chav then? :heehee: Boom Boom Pow is the spawn of SATAN though. "LET THE BEAT ROOOCK!" sounds Satanic in the song.
May 29, 200916 yr But do chavs buy music legally really? Exactly. You can call it chavvy music if you like but you can't blame chavs. A chav is NOT going to LEGALLY BUY music!  If you take away sales from chavs you might get rid of 5%, being generous.
