June 23, 200619 yr In terms of the question I think they should be banned except for farmers and for people who's line of business involves offroad such as racehorse trainers etc There is no excuse or need for these damn things in cities and towns for the school run being driven by mothers who do not have the competence to drive them

June 23, 200619 yr I have no problem. They are great cars, if you dtop people driving them then in theory you shouldn't let people drive cars. If it's there money and they have a large family then they should have th choice to. I know that my first car will hopefully be a discovery, because thats the kind of car I like, so I think that if something important like a vehicle is being questioned then you should be able to take it wherever you want

June 23, 200619 yr Its a question of ability to drive as much as anything else, most people do not have the skill to handle those vehicles because of their size, they are like driving a transit or a minibus, require a whole different skillset This is one of many problems I have with SUV's: - People don't know how to drive them, or don't know how to drive at all, and constantly flip them over - They are unnecessarily large and many wagons (you call them "estates" right?) have just as much cargo or passenger space - They pose a danger to anyone they hit because their bumpers are higher than cars - They pollute more - They use more fuel - They block visibility on the road - They take up more than one parking space - They seem to give a sense of entitlement and superiority to drivers. "I'm big so you'll get out of my way" etc. - They're almost all UGLY Thankfully the backlash has begun and here in the US, their sales are PLUMMETING and people are going back to cars and saying "what the hell was I thinking driving that huge truck around??"
June 23, 200619 yr Its a question of ability to drive as much as anything else, most people do not have the skill to handle those vehicles because of their size, they are like driving a transit or a minibus, require a whole different skillset I agree with that, but I dont know how it should be done to get around that. They cant make people take a seperate driving test or enforced lessons on how to drive it, though some people can drive them fine without any prior experience. Also I think that i they clamped down on the people that used these cars, they would have to do things about other cars e.g smaller cars have to be used in the city
June 24, 200619 yr I am total agreement with Mayor Ken Livingstone on these ridiculous people who drive 4x4s in urban areas such as London. There is absolutely no need for it, simple as. As people have already pointed out, they are ugly, pollute more, use more fuel, take up more space and are almost universally driven BADLY, invariably by stupid people who just cant handle the power of the things..... And as for those tits who put sodding Bull Bars on them...... <_< You run down a kid at 30 mph in a small hatchback there's a greater chance the kid will live than if you plough into them with one of these fukkin' things..... The only people who have any reason to use these vehicles are those who live in rural areas.... Because they are classed as "Off Road" vehicles and are meant to be driven up hills and fields, not on tarmac....
