OH MY GOD! I was expecting a few death and tragedies but watching Jack sacrifice his own grandson was possibly even worse than Ianto, Owen and Tosh dying. Not to mention Frobisher shooting himself and hiw family. And then the ending, wow, just wow.

It'll be interesting to see what will happen if we get S4.

:snif: bloody brilliant, excellent drama, just hope there is another series to come.

That episode was spectacular and harrowing (if that's the right word) at the same time.

I don't think it is the end of Torchwood given the viewing figures but it might be as we know it.

The gunshots from the bedroom - heartbreaking. But to sacrifice Stephen :( God I thought Alice might join the team but if anything he has made one hell of an enemy out of the poor woman.

I dont think the Torchwood Insititute exists now ):

f*** knows how it would go if they brought it back, devastated that was the end.

When Frobisher told his family to go upstairs, when I saw the gun, I knew what was going to happen, hearing the 4 bullets going off just gave me goosebumps, it was pure drama.

As soon as i saw the box from equitsion (sp?) 31? i new that he was either going to kill the PM or his family. Also at one point i thought his PA was going to kill the PM.

I hope it does come back but i think if it does it won't have Gwen in it 'cause it will be somewhere else in the country or in the world.

tbh i think we need another jack related spin off, aimed for a mature audience.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens...

We know Capt. Jack is in the Xmas Dr Who's in some shape or form so I really hope he heads back to earth with Martha and plans the new Torchwood.

And Lois

I proper love Liz May Brice. She just told me on Twitter that she is up for coming back if theres another series and shes wanted
What an amazing last episode. I cried

Me too it was amazing, best TV I've watched in a long while!

Well I had high hopes for this series, but it exceeded them.

BRILLIANT series. The five-episode arc really worked as it allowed the plot to be FULLY explored, and not just skimped over as would have happened in your typical one hour stand alone episode.

The Good

- A fantastic supporting cast. Frobisher was played perfectly throughout, you could really see he was a trapped man as opposed to a nasty one. Alice was fantastic in the final episode, and the Prime Minister was suitably awful and cold.

- Another ROCK ON moment with Bridget this time.

- Eve Myles - I know Gwen is a divisive character, but the girl's good.

- Jack sacrificing his own terrified grandson - just HARROWING, even worse than Ianto's death. The bit that got me was the boy asking "Uncle Jack" what was happening just before it did.

- John Barrowman actually managing to rein in the Jazzhands routine and put in a decent performance.

- The end of Frobisher and his family. Again, HARROWING. Even though you know what was going to happen, it was still uncomfortable hearing the shots. The worst bit was the glimpse of the daughters having a pillow-fight just seconds before.

The regrettable

- The voice of the 456 was just a tad too overblown and cheesy.

- The conclusion. Seemingly the end of Torchwood? Although I suppose you could argue that a happy ending wouldn't have really been appropriate for the series.

- The lack of Ianto resurrection.

- The idea of "what else are school league tables for" Denise becoming the next PM.

BRING TORCHWOOD BACK

Minor quibbles aside (which Shoat pretty much elucidated on...), this was just utterly gobsmacking..... I'm still taking it all in tbh.... A completely gripping, well made, well plotted Sci Fi thriller with a few John Wyndham-esque themes here and there, which was well developed and seriously well acted by all (even Barrowman didn't irritate me at all in this one  )... Particular credit has to go to Peter Capaldi though as Frobisher, the man is one of our best actors, bar none, anyone who can turn his hand one moment from Malcolm Tucker in "The Thick of It" and "In the Loop", to something like this is a seriously talented guy (mind you, I've always thought Capaldi was a damn good actor ever since the time I saw him in "Prime Suspect" playing a trans-sexual)..... My, what great Doctor he could have made if certain people had actually had a bit of vision to cast him..... But then, the bad thing with that I suppose is that we would've missed out on his great interpretation of Frobisher.....

Glad this story was given the proper room to develop and breathe, as it simply would not have been as effective even as a two-parter.....

I think it's inevitable therell be a S4, even if its all rebooted in a new location.

My theory:

As it's rumoured Jack is in the DW Xmas Specials, I say the Doctor will tell him to stay on Earth and protect it, after the events of whatever happens at Xmas, leaving the door for TW to be reborn.

Watched the 5 part series as a casual fan (lol). But this was very good. UK drama shows don't have the budgets, funds etc. to compete with the US shows on a proper playing field, but this was brilliant. Excellently written and generally hawrrowing. The worst part is you could believe this happening.

They've set it up for a Torchwood reboot. I follow US TV pretty well and I know this gets a good reception in the US. If the 5 parter goes down well in the US, I wouldn't be suprised if they helped fund it etc. for a new series as this series was paving the way for a complete reboot. Would suprise me if only Jack came back.

Not on their own they dont certainly, but stuff like "Rome" and "The Tudors" which is made in co-production with US cable networks almost certainly can compete with shows like The Wire, Lost or The Sopranos in terms of the quality and production values.... Both these shows also had excellent casts, with experienced, well regarded actors from feature films as well as up and coming new faces....

If Dr Who or Torchwood got some funding off, say, FX or The Sci Fi channel, then I think the productions values could be as good as Battlestar Galactica or Caprica....

Thing is, with this series, it didn't NEED A big budget and loads of special effects. This wasn't so much a sci-fi series as a human drama. The 465 were only a small part of it, the main story was really how the government reacted to the crisis.

This is how Torchwood should really go. As much as I enjoyed the first two series, it did seem to suffer from the misconception that because it was trying to be adult, it had to full of sordid sex and "liberal" characters. The writers' have now finally realised that this doesn't have to be the case - they produced a wonderful adult drama without any of the cast trying to shag the aliens. What romance they did include was written well - focusing on the genuine affection between Gwen/Rhys, Ianto/Jack, even Frobisher/Bridget.

So really, I don't see why the really need to go chasing after big budgets to succeed, they just need to make sure the writing remains clever and top notch.

I am struggling to see how S4 will go, given this series did have the feel of a final conclusion. I would expect Jack would return certainly, and I would hope they'd bring back Gwen aswell, although I don't see why they needed a complete reboot. All the show needed was some tweaking, which they already achieved with this series.

tbh i dont think a 13 episode series would compete much anyway, one shorter series, but with one long story seems a much better route for torchwood, lets face it children of earth $h!ts all over series 1 and 2, because they are all basically 1 story in an hour, where as a 5 hour story let it develop into a much deeper and fantastic plot. The excellent cast helped aswell though, i also think it was shot brilliantly too.

oh and where is the love for the policeman, i forget his name, but the one Gwen used to work with and picked her and rhys up from the airport, yeah anyway i think he is bare amazing, i love how when they were fighting the soldiers he was just like yeah f*** my duty took off all his police $h!t and went and fought the soldiers, what a legend.
