The fact is, it is clear Britney WOULDN'T be able to sing most of her hits live, because first of all she has never been a great singer, and secondly her voice is really computerized and vocoded on a lot of her material (Piece of me, Radar, Womanizer, Toxic, etc.).

But on the other hand, her music material is immense, her songs are classic, and I can understand that people want to enjoy and experience such a fantastic pop catalogue in the atmosphere of a packed arena with screaming fans, big lights effects, impressive set up, amazing dancers and so on. It is a full show, yes, despise Britney miming, even though you don't like it, it's not something to deny.

It does sound shocking to you, but it doesn't to other people. It's a matter of what you are expecting when you are attending a show. You can put high hopes on the visual set up, on the choregraphies, on the craziness of the crowd, the living "legend", etc. There're many rock acts out there, who do sing and play live at their gigs, but who doesn't give a $h!t about costumes, set up of the stage, etc etc. They just come on stage, sing, and leave. Some people wouldn't enjoy it neither, finding it boring. It's up to everyone's expectations in attending a music show, because, once again, it's not ALL about the music.

I went to a Bat for Lashes show two weeks ago, it was amazing. Simplicity of the set up, magical atmosphere, unbelievable voice. Yet again, I would have gone to see Britney if she was coming to my town, and I could enjoy it, because I'm expecting a total different type of show from her. There's different categories of shows, some you may like, some you may dislike, that's all.

i definitely dont think its okay to lip synch an entire set, but im sure its impossible to sound good and do as much dancing as artists like brit does so if there is back-up vocal tracks//singers then that doesnt seem so bad.

Well the funny thing is, Ciara is supporting Britney in the UK and, from what I've seen, she sings live and probably dances as much as Britney. (if not even more) She does have the track playing in the background but she most definitely does sing along.

Anyway, I'm kinda seeing where everyone is coming from about this going nowhere. The Britney fans are never going to change their mind on their idol. I guess it's up to them to see her doing some half-assed dancing and not uttering a word, apparently it's not important for a singer to sing at her concerts. Then the rest of us are never going to agree that it's acceptable to mime to put on a 'better show'. (which is bull$h!t)

In a nutshell! Please someone close this thread ... it really is going nowhere! We the 'anti-mimers at live gigs' know we're right ... so just close it now!

So does Britney. She doesn't in all of her songs, but alot of them she does.

THIS. THIS. THIS.

And plus the people hating on the tour are only causing controversy which makes the tour sell more. So either way Britney wins.

And I agree with Norma, close this fuckery.

I went tonight, and one word- HORRENDOUS! Never been so disappointed in my life! She said about 20 words in total live on the mic...."Hey London, how are you'll? Bye London, thankyou!" Didn't sing along once! I thought I could at least rely on her singing 'Everytime' live like she has done before and as it's a ballad but no! :(

It has its entertainment value for sure! Which is more than can be said of the woman in question. But don't you get bored of trying to put your point across Rob? Hate to say this Rob but you really are a bit of a grump with not much of a sense of humour! Is it because of the early hour and you've not had your Weetabix?

Britney has a 19 song set, Ciara doesn't even do 9. How can possibly dance as much?

Excuses, Excuses... AGAIN from the Brit fans.... I think we actually went over this totally LAME argument before.... If she's not got a great voice - GET SINGING LESSONS.. If her voice is computerised on the CD, then so what....? Her voice is scarcely any more "computerised" than Ohgr's from Industrial Band Skinny Puppy, whose voice sounds like a bloody ROBOT on their albums, and totally manipulated and cut-up, far moreso than Britney's..... And, yet, Ohgr sings LIVE using an effects rack and live looping techniques to get an approximation of the same sort of manipulation and FX that's on Skinny Pup's albums.....

So, come on, who the fukk is this bint trying to kid that she cant do the sh!t live.....?

Oh, yeah Ty, that's just so Mature of you innit....? If you dont like the thread, bugger off to your Britney Bumming forum..... <_<

Until you actually GO to a Britney Spears concert, shut the f*** up, seriously.

You really are just a pillock aren't you Tyler.....? I already responded to that point when Dinno made the suggestion... But, seeing as how you were clearly asleep, or in your little delusional Britney fantasy world, I'll repeat what I said to Dinno, just for you.....

Basically - WHY would I go to Britney show, what on earth would the point actually be....? I couldn't judge or engage with her performance because, quite simply, she DOESN'T GIVE ONE..... I could go along to a P!nk show, or a Kylie show, or a Girls Aloud show, or a Lady Ga Ga show, and actually see a performance and actually be able to judge them as Entertainers on the strenth of that performance, engage with their performances, and probably have a damn good night, with Britney, I cant do that, because there's nothing for me to judge or even relate.... Literally..... So, no fun in the end.....

You know, for someone who apparently claims to be unaffected by my arguements, you sure are aggressive about it mate...... I actually thought with your increasing interest in Rock/Metal you'd be ditching the obvious fakes like Britney.... I know that I did when I started properly listening to music back in the 80s, I just couldn't take garbage like SAW and Bros and the like seriously, because I knew there was better out there..... I make my suggestion again - go along to an Iron Maiden show next time they play your patch, then you'll see how REAL Entertainers entertain a crowd.....

If this argument is seeming to go around in circles, it's because some of you numpties just dont seem to appreciate the fact that miming at a LIVE show is completely UNETHICAL and goes against the whole concept of what a LIVE show is.....

And I'll just point out again (seeing as how some of you are either too fukkin' dim or precious to get it...) this is NOT an Anti-Britney or even an Anti-Pop thread, it's an ANTI-CHEATING thread.... I've been every bit as critical towards Michael Jackson, but I notice there aint too many people willing to act as an advocate or an apologist in HIS behalf.... Curious that i feel.....

And, I'll repeat the question to you as well Bert, what on Earth has made you "expect" a singer to go on stage and not sing....? Really, that's just sh!t..... While it's true that many Rock bands dont particularly care about a Stage show or whatever, there's actually a fair amount of Rock acts who DO - Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson, being three examples of Rock acts who've put on some pretty elaborate stage shows to AUGMENT the live performance... And, let's make this absolutely fukkin' clear shall we....? A Stage Show, or dancing or whatever, is just that - an AUGMENTATION or an ENHANCEMENT of a live performance, it should NEVER, EVER be a stand-in or a replacement to an actual live performance.....

It's all very well for people to say "Oh, this is The Circus STARRING Britney, so it's not a live concert"... What a crock of sh!t..... That's a bit like going to a theatre to see a play starring a famous actor and then discovering the actor is just miming all his lines FFS.......   What a fukkin' RIDICULOUS thing to say, I really have never heard such arrant nonsense coming from people in all my life...... God, you people really ARE just, to quote Chris Rock, "low-expectation havin' muthafukkers"

Excuses, Excuses... AGAIN from the Brit fans.... I think we actually went over this totally LAME argument before.... If she's not got a great voice - GET SINGING LESSONS.. Can you stop being so rude to people who don't share your opinion ? :S

I'm not even a Britney fan, although I enjoy her music, I was just trying to bring something to the debate, SORRY if I don't spend my whole days on this thread and if I diddn't read every single post of this 17 page big thread.

You really need to town it down a bit, calling people bint, calling their arguments lame and using capital letters won't make you look any clever really.

God, you people really ARE just, to quote Chris Rock, "low-expectation havin' muthafukkers"

Right, is he going to get away this that ? :S I can too insult people by quoting famous people, I don't see how it is more acceptable. No mods in this forum ?

You're justifying an artist miming though Bert, I mean, come on, that's just retarded, you'd may as well let Ben Johnson keep his 100 metre gold then in that case, or let Dwayne Chambers just keep on competing in professional sport and not ban him for taking drugs..... Sorry, but there are some things that are just so basic and fundamental that they really should be taken as read.... An artist should NEVER mime at a paying gig, an athlete should NEVER take performance enhancing drugs to 'win' a gold medal... It's the same principle innit....? If people just go around expecting people to cheat or lie, then we really have no standards at all.....

The Chris Rock quote was meant to be a bit of a JOKE..... A degree of separation.... Believe me, you want me to crack a joke instead of typing what I really think.....

And, how is it actually inaccurate.... You really DO have low expectations if you go around defending the likes of Brit and Jacko.....

And, I've been told by Tyler to "shut the fukk up" and "go and fukk myself" which doesn't even have the separation of being a quote from a famous comedian.... So, you think I should start playing nice....? I'm being provoked, so I'm basically giving as good as I get..... But, at least I'm being a bit clever about it....

I've posted one argumenting and respectful post at the top of this page, and then I've been called consecutively lame, retarded, motherf***er (oh, as a joke though), my arguments being $h!t, and so on.

I don't care what others have told to you, I am not the others, so I expect the same respect back. Debate aside, you really have an attitude problem, and can't express yourself without turning agressive.

I was ALSO there last night, and it was NOT just them words she said ;) Yes she didn't interact TOO much with the crowd, but I can promise you she said and interacted with the crowd MORE than I had previously heard about in previous shows. And she sang along live to at least three different songs last night. Yes it might have been hard to hear it through the re-recorded vocals of each song, but you can tell if some parts of the song are different to the rest of the song.

Anywayssss, YES I loved it and YES I would go again if I had chance too. I really was in awe of HER for most (If not ALL) of last night  The show was brilliant and I'm surprised at how smooth her performances looked. So yeah (maybe it's just me being "deluded" but I wish people would just stop saying things, coz they think they can get away with it
