More than a million Cadbury chocolate bars are being taken off the shelves over fears they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The company said it had agreed to recall seven of its most popular products in the UK after consultation with the Food Standards Agency.

The affected products are the 250g Dairy Milk Turkish, Dairy Milk Caramel and Dairy Milk Mint bars, the Dairy Milk 8 chunk, the 1kg Dairy Milk bar, the 105g Dairy Milk Buttons Easter Egg and the 10p Freddo bar.

A Cadbury spokesman said: "This is being done purely as a precautionary measure, as some of these products may contain minute traces of salmonella.

"Cadbury has identified the source of the problem and rectified it and is taking steps to ensure these particular products are no longer available for sale."

He added: "Cadbury expects to have fresh stocks of these products back on the market in the near future."

Cadbury said anyone who had eaten a chocolate bar over the past few days should not be concerned.

A spokesman said: "The levels are significantly below the standard that would be any health problem but we are taking this measure as a precaution.

"If there are people who have eaten one of these chocolate bars today they should not worry but they can get in touch with us if they are concerned for a full refund."

The free helpline number for Cadbury is 0800 818181. Uneaten products should be returned to Cadbury Recall, Freepost MID20061, Birmingham B3O 2QZ, and a refund will be given.

Mind you I don't have any symptoms of salmonella so far

Its only a minor precaution an it wouldn't put me of buying any of their products in the future, not that I buy much choclolate though.
I practically ate a Dairy Milk bar  oops feels sickly now
I hope those that were infected between January and June issue a lawsuit against Cadbury's for very substantial damages
Well... I have been eaten their chocolates since January and as living proof I'm still alive  :D

If you had an upset stomach or a touch of the trots between January and now though, chances are it was because of cadbury's choc....

You should sue....

That Cadbury's chocolate made by Hersheys in the states is just wrong!!! worse than the Turkish Cadburys stuff you can seem to buy in pound shops!!! :puke2:

I FIND CADBURY bar outside of the uk and ireland are not the same,,,,i was in australia recently and the cadbury chocolate was not near as nice
I've got 2 of the 250g Cadbury's Turkish bars in the cupboard.Had 3 and ate one over the last week.Doesn't bother me at all as the risk is said to be very low.
the risk is very low but im sure cadburys dont want to be taking any chances at all and are trying to limit the chances as much as possible
I'll still eat them, I don't think it's a big risk or threat tbh, just a precaution. I had one of them cadburys creme egg bar things the other day (they are vile) and nothing so far :P
