As UB40 waited...the album included the current single, and also follow up "One In Ten". ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN awaited some single sales...as 1981 was early days. ADAM ANT was falling after 12 weeks at #1! SHAKIN`STEVENS peaked at #3 behind both STARSOUND and the BEAT`s current offering. The album of CHARIOTS OF FIRE slid into the top 10. The AU PAIRS are LESLEY WOODS, JANE MUNRO, PETE HAMMOND, PAUL FOAD. A punk outfit formed in Birmingham in 1979. Influenced by JAMES BROWN and FUNKADELIC....with the lead of LESLEY WOODS (who is a rather outspoken Lesbian piece)! This was their first album. ELTON JOHN didn`t stick around with "THE FOX", he was gone in a couple of weeks of it`s release. Compilations and those Various Artists came via DISCO DAZE AND DISCO NITES along with likes of AMII STEWART, MCFADDEN AND WHITEHEAD, STACY LATTISAW, and the BROTHERS JOHNSON. That one came from Ronco, and THEMES came from K-TEL and did what it said on the tin. JIM STEINMAN may have been associated with the songs of MEAT LOAF, but here was his own album. STEVIE WONDER was see-sawing all over the chart all year long. THE MOODY BLUES did good as ever, no big singles though. BILL NELSON got a minor single from his album. RANDY CRAWFORD gave us some class, despite getting very big in the States. KRAFTWERK gave us COMPUTER WORLD, as COMPUTER LOVE was the one half of double A sided "The Model". THE EXPLOITED told us Punk wasn`t dead, except for the ridiculous single "Dead Cities". The Top TV in June `81: 01 HART TO HART 16.30 02 CORONATION STREET (MON) 14.80 03 SHILLINGBURY TALES 14.40 04 CORONATION STREET (WEDS) 13.70 05 THE PROFESSIONALS 13.70 06 WORLD CUP FOOTBALL QUALIFIER 13.50 07 CROSSROADS (MON) 13.20 08 CROSSROADS (TUES) 13.10 09 MAGNUM 12.60 10 MISFITS 12.20 11 NINE O`CLOCK NEWS (MON) 11.90 12 BUTTERFLIES 11.40 13 TOP OF THE POPS 11.40 14 TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED 11.30 15 NINE O`CLOCK NEWS (TUES) 11.10 16 WHERE THERE`S LIFE 10.90 17 YOUNG AT HEART 10.90 18 THAT`S LIFE 10.90 19 THE SWEENEY (Repeat) 10.80 20 WINNER TAKES ALL 10.80 HART TO HART and ROBERT WAGNER/STEPHANIE POWERS taking the 8.15 slot on Sundays in 1981 and beating the events in CORONATION STREET and the early romance of Ken/Deirdre! SHILLINGBURY TALES was the last ITC/ATV based series...a comedy drama centred around around the fictional village of Shillingbury, featuring ROBIN NEDWELL...despised by the really gross brass band led by JACK DOUGLAS. From memory, BERNARD CRIBBINS played the best character, which led to a half hour sitcom in 1982 also starring JACK DOUGLAS. THE PROFESSIONALS was into series 4, directly spun from the NEW AVENGERS. TOM SELLECK played MAGNUM for the first time. He was a private investigator retired from Naval intelligence. The MISFITS was a sitcom with the late KEVIN Lloyd (of the Bill fame). It also starred ENN REITEL...2 misfits lauch a trip to Katmandu, but only get as far as Yorkshire...where they meet ANNE STALLYBRASS as LIZ STONEBRIDGE. Altogether a right load of rubbish, that only got one series. WENDY CRAIG played Ria in BUTTERFLIES along with GEOFFREY PALMER as Ben...until Ria meets Leonard. YOUNG AT HEART was another ATV sitcom with the late JOHN MILLS and MEGS JENKINS as married couple as Albert and Ethel Collyer....Albert has to retire from work and spends all day under Ethel`s feet, another kind of One Foot In The Grave comedy...In one episode, the duo go to Spain and they spend all the time calling Pesatos "Potatoes". ESTHER RANTZEN was joined by CYRIL FLETCHER, CHRIS SERLE, and PAUL HEINEY on "THAT`S LIFE" on series 9...consumer meets humour in one. More real life problems for DR MIRIAM STOPPARD/DR ROB BUCKMAN in Wednesday`s 7pm show "WHERE THERE`S LIFE". Friday at 7pm, gave us JIMMY TARBUCK/GEOFFREY WHEELER, as contestants bet against each other to win, a chance to return the following week, to win £1,000+ on "WINNER TAKES ALL". TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED gave some strange/eery tales to a Saturday night. As, TOP OF THE POPS pulled in over 11 million viewers, with JIMMY SAVILE presenting. ADAM AND THE ANTS were off #1, after 4 weeks. THE JAM got stuck at 3, as the flames grew higher in the "Funeral Pyre". SHAKIN`STEVENS could not get his 2nd #1, yet. Smoochy stuff with the strangely spelt CHAMPAIGN. KATE ROBBINS appeared in CROSSROADS and just like STEPHANIE DE SYKES in 1974, had a #2 hit. MICHAEL JACKSON was back solo, and did get 2 weeks at the top. HAZEL O`CONNER was still doing ok, after the film "Breaking Glass" in 1980. TOYAH got a 2nd hit...she wanted to be free, but only reached #6! ODYSSEY were on their 3rd year of success, and took "Back To My Roots` to #4. STARSOUND were the medley set from Holland...the medley starts with "Sugar Sugar", but this was never heard on the Radio in 1981, they started it with "No Reply". CHARIOTS OF FIRE was the big film, and there was VANGELIS providing the theme. EDDY TUDOR POLE was a name to conjour with, and TEN POLE TUDOR got a 1st hit. Then Eddy went on to present the Crystal Maze on Channel 4. A show nicked from BBC`s "Adventure Game" series on kids tv in 1981. GEORGE HARRISON tributed Lennon. ENIGMA were another medley group, and the Disco Mix was based around late 70s hits via Gloria Gaynor, Van McCoy, and Rose Royce. KIM WILDE had hit #2, and peaked at #4. BETTE DAVIS EYES ws a big #1 across Europe, and peaked at #8 on this chart. UB40 had a few sales problems with their Double A...both songs getting equal plays. ULTRAVOX were sure of another top ten hit, "the lights went out, we all stood still". REO SPEEDWAGON took time climbing the chart, and did peak at #7. Early HUMAN LEAGUE "add your voice to the sound of the crowd". SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES were "Spellbound" with their ever gothic image. Spurs went to Wembly to play Man City...they drew, but in the replay they won 3-2. We remember chanting "Ossie`s going to Wembly, his kness have gone all trembly". STRAY CATS were doing their 3rd hit...It`s very amazing but some people seem to think that SHANE RITCHIE was a member of this group...he wasn`t of course, maybe he is confused with BRIAN SELTZER (the lead singer). Climbing sang KOOL AND THE GANG...but did not "Take It To The Top", and peaked at 15. FEARGAL SHARKEY did it with the UNDERTONES. BUCK`S FIZZ got a 2nd top 20 hit...surprise surprise! PHIL COLLINS was getting a bit dreary with his latest. COAST TO COAST covered BRENDA LEE circa 1961. TEARDROP EXPLODES got another hit along with JULIAN COPE. SHEENA EASTON was as dreary as PHIL COLLINS here! IMAGINATION got their first hit, and a #3 to boot. RED SOVINE was an old country singer who passed away in April 1980 aged 62. He was driving a van in Nashville, and suffered a heart attack, the van crashed and killed him. "Teddy Bear" was originally a hit in the States in 1976. Quite why it was re-issued in the UK in 1981, I am a touch baffled. The reason for the 1976 UK flop, was because the narrated song is rather similar to J.J. BARRIE`s 1976 #1 "No Charge". DAVID GRANT crashed in with another hit with LINX. POLECATS could maybe have done better. ENNIO MORRICONE providing the BBC label with the theme to the series "The Life And Times Of David Lloyd George". GROVER WASHINGTON JNR gave TONY BLACKBURN something to enjoy. Would Tony play the DEAD KENNEDYS on the top 40? You must be joking...no station would touch it, but it was crap! SQUEEZE got stuck, although "Is That Love" is a well recognised track. WHITESNAKE crashed in, but 36 was the peak... Coming soon the latest singles in 2009. Taking into account that the rather dodgy produced "Big Top 40" launches on Independant Radio on Sunday...Sounding rather like a circus! I thought "Dave, you can do better than that". So, I have. Based on a download chart, stick in pre-orders for physicals...Here come`s my "Fit 30"...This is how we reckon Independant Radio should run the chart... June 12, 200916 yr I think David Guetta could get top 5 on Sunday at a push, we just have to wait and see what happens, he will definitely get a #1 out of it the week later, and could keep La Roux from getting her first #1 with Bulletproof.
June 12, 200916 yr 01 LA ROUX - LA ROUX 29th 02 LUNGS - FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE 6th July - these 2 must be way ahead saleswise.

By the way the Airi L version of the Guetta song would actually be at #20, but it is not allowed in by the OCC. I took it out, because we like to compare the chart, to Sunday`s top 40. NOTE: These are not the Official Charts. They are based on Chart Show tv`s, but with added sales to make them the most up to date charts in Britain, at this point on a Friday Evening. The Chart Show top 20 videos can be see on Saturday at 9am, and Sunday at 11am on Sky and Freeview. As I am a good sport...I would like to end the thread this week by saying good luck to Rich and Kat for Sunday`s Big Top 40. If anything, it might sway Radio One to change their ways, hopefully! ;)

June 12, 200916 yr Looks like Daniel Merriweather is going to be stuck at #5 for a 4th week, I think he is the first act to get stuck at #5 for a whole month
June 12, 200916 yr Lethal Bizzle not top 75 yet? I'll be annoyed if it never makes it, it's a good song. I gotta go hard, hard, me I gotta go hard, hard. :P Would expect Work, The Show and When Love Takes Over to rise a bit by the chart show, and I'm hoping Gossip stay top 40... We Are The People was deleted from iTunes for a while, so it may fall and let Katy, Jordin and Linkin Park up a bit.
June 12, 200916 yr Looks like Daniel Merriweather is going to be stuck at #5 for a 4th week, I think he is the first act to get stuck at #5 for a whole month  I think David or Keri will knock him down - no pun intended :kink:
June 12, 200916 yr I can see Blur's album will be one to watch out for, its been awhile since they released an album, should see sales of 100k plus for it. 100k in the first week?!! No chance - it's a muso's Best Of with half their hits missing. Top 3 at best.
