June 24, 200619 yr Go hunt this down in bargain bins everywhere if you don't have it  One of the best albums of recent years - very underated. Every track is a winner tho the vile Sheryl Crow cover spoils it :( I got it before it was reissued with that awful Sheryl Crow cover on. It's not a bad album I suppose. I liked it a lot at the time but I never listen to it nowadays.
June 25, 200619 yr im sure she will make a return someday and get a new recordind deal,,some of the singles she released were ok
June 25, 200619 yr I've already posted a review of this album elsewhere. *copies and pastes* :P It has been a while since I heard this. :o Track 1. Just A Little Girl The track that really put Amy into the spotlight. Fantastic song, could have done with more promotion. This is a down tempo, up tempo song. I think there should have been a bridge in the middle of this song. The song is about the perspective of a young girl with a dominating partner, who has little faith in her abilities. Track 2. Misfit The second single that was released, the video was first class and the appeal to students at school was very well calculated. Again I think a lot more promotion could have been done for this track. I could relate to this song for masculine reasons. It's a real catchy tune from start to finish and deserved to get higher in the charts than it did. Perhaps this should have been the first single, or if I remember correctly, there was too long a gap between these two single releases. Track 3. Under The Thumb The third single, and another great video. The guy that starred in this reminded me of my uncle (younger version). It speeds up real sudden, after a slow start. Another song that could be easily related to by young people in relationships. Again, the gap was unfortunate for this third single. Also it may have been the wrong order to release these in. There should have been more of a bridge in this as well. Track 4. All I Wanna Do The fourth single and I don't think this should have been released. I would call this a filler track to be honest. It was recently released by Sheryl Crowe, and I think another song further on in this album should have been released instead. Nothing changed with this cover, sounds like the original. This could account for the disappointing performance of this single. Track 5. If Only Beautiful melody to start this slow track, quite a contrast to the catchy tracks that have been released from this album. Perhaps a slow track like this should have been released, it would have proved what she's capable of. She would have appealed to more people. Unfortunately I would say no, as it is rather repetitive and is more of a filler. Track 6. Beautiful Lie Another slow start, then it gets more of a beat. Still a comparatively slow song though catchy. This is different musically speaking whereas the previous song was a bit repetitive musically as well as vocally. I would have nominated a song like this to be a single to prove Amy's diversity. Track 7. Ladder In My Tights If they had wanted another fast single from the album, this would have been the one I and a few other fans of Amy's album would have chosen. Very diverse song again, down tempo and up tempo. One of the best tracks on the album that was not a single in my opinion. Very abrupt ending though. Track 8. Carry Me Away Another track with a slow start, this song is rather irritating with the high pitched voice which does not really suit Amy's voice in my opinion. This track is more filler material than noteworthy in my opinion. It's very meditative. Track 9. Happy Now Slow start again, this track remains slow and repetitive with the use of the word "happy" at the beginning. It slowly picks up with more vocals. There is a quiet spell with just Amy then the backing vocals come back again. It's a farewell song which is very sad and slow as a result. I would have expected more of a beat from the title and this song ends real abruptly. Track 10. Gonna Be Fine A beautiful melody starts this track, this should have been longer in my opinion. Another slow start here, it picks up slowly and maintains a slow beat. The vocals that are in this song don't really suit Amy's voice. Too high, should have been able to let rip. It's a real reassuring song with some wonderful lyrics. Aside from the high pitched vocals, this could have been another example of a slow single that could have showcased Amy's talents. Nice gradual ending. Track 11. Superior Mind Grand title for a start. The words and music starts at virtually the same time slowly and quickly picks up with more of a beat. Lively track which is what we expected from the title. This is more suited for Amy's vocals and could have been released as a single despite being repetitive in the middle. They could have cut out the repeats of the chorus. Finishes very abruptly. Track 12. Going Out Of My Mind Another gentle start. Again vocally, more suitable and picks up during the chorus. I think a bridge should have been in this song as well, and again this was another potential single in my opinion. The ending is more gradual musically, though the vocals end rather suddenly. Track 13. Seconds Away Slow start, which is not what we expect from a title like this though it does pick up and becomes a real catchy number. The vocals are very good. I think the verses could be livened up a bit, there is a bit much of a contrast between the verses and choruses in my opinion. Track 14. Testify This reminds me of a start to a lullaby from the first few musical notes. Slow start, picks up soon. The chorus is too repetitive, and the sudden stop in the second verse is far too abrupt in my opinion. Very catchy song though. This is not filler material and is one of the outstanding tracks that could have been a single despite the problems that I have highlighted above. Track 15. Nobody Real slow start musically and vocally. They match real well and this continues for a while in the song. It's got a real good beat to it during the chorus and should have been maintained during the verses. On the whole a it is a better slow track by Amy. Conclusion Very good album overall, despite the problems that I highlighted. I am probably too picky on some of the points I have made. Some points about the overall album: - The single releases should have been more of spread over the whole album instead of the first four tracks. This point is a major failure in marketing in my opinion because it tells you that the best songs are the singles and I must admit when I first played it I didn't go beyond to fully appreciate the album. Another point about singles is that she should not have released the fourth single. Nothing was done to improve the song. Final point was that she should have released one of the slow tracks I have mentioned. It would have appealled to a wider audience and increased her sales.
June 25, 200619 yr They really F-ed up her career with that Sheryl Crow cover, it's almost as if the record company was looking for an excuse to drop her. I haven't heard the album, but I have heard 'Ladder In My Tights' which is fantastic and should have been released instead.
June 25, 200619 yr Author Ladder In My Tights should've been released. Its better than Misfit but I think probably the two songs are too similar. :(
June 25, 200619 yr I agree with the opinion that Ladder In My Tights should have been the fourth single. I remember listening to the album thinking that should be the next single.
June 25, 200619 yr i love this album, misfit is one of my fav songs as well cuz it reminds me of when i was in school
June 26, 200619 yr I bought the album when it came out. I agree it's brilliant. Very under-rated artist.
June 28, 200619 yr I like the album bought it day of release hope she releases more stuff, I mean didn't it go gold which isn't that bad I suppose.
