June 16, 200916 yr As someone who's very anti-Mariah, I have to say this isn't bad by her standards, I can see the catchy quality in it after one listen. It's a little generic like people have said, but it's by far a better lead single than that 'Touch My Body' tripe was.
June 16, 200916 yr I don't think it's generic at all. I think The-Dream & TS's beats are hot, and although it could've been included on "Love vs. Money" it's a fresh sound for Mariah. In fact, it doesn't sound like a "typical" Dream production. It's similar to "Migrate", but it's very urban and has one killer hook. I'm not sure how well this will fair at Pop radio, but I sense a smash at Urban. Edited June 16, 200916 yr by AAC
June 16, 200916 yr This is good. ^_^ Much better than 'Touch My Body' imo. Proper addicted to it tbh!
June 16, 200916 yr Author Right, I've decided that I do love this. Such a quick grower, probably because it's quite a straight forward song. I do find it slightly amusing (I say amusing, I probably mean 'weird') to hear Mariah singing about 'sexing', weed and E. But her making 'Napoleon Complex' work in a song, along with "I'm the press conference, you a conversation" more than makes up for it.
June 17, 200916 yr Yeah I thought that too Aaron! I think though that Eminem must have really pissed her off for her to go to this length to hit-out at him. It's quite a brash song, I mean forgive me as a Mariah fan but to ANYONE listening to this song and knowing about the whole Eminem thing, he comes across as looking very stupid. The only thing i'm afraid of is that he's going to reply (as he does...) and this is going to spiral out of control. Controversy aside... I'm on like my 64th listen today or something. I'm terribly tragic, but i've been dying for this. I was honestly terrified waiting for it to come on, expecting something slushy and TMB-esque, but this is hard-hitting, strong urban beats (= smash hit in the US), witty, meaningful lyrics, and it has a killer hook. I'm just thrilled about the whole thing. :D I just can't wait to see her perform it... :o The UK had BETTER get a tour out of this album like or i'll personally murder Mims myself.
June 17, 200916 yr Growing on me with every listen, I'd say couple more and I could say I love it :heehee: SO much better than TMB as others have said, hope I can say the same about its video!

Well it seemed that Nick, at least, was very pissed off with "Bagpipes From Baghdad" on his new album. So I can only assume she was as well. Perhaps he'll reply again, but all he needs to do is release "Bagpipes From Baghdad" and the general public would probably think that's his reply. Yeah, I was glad it turned out the way it did. I don't mind if the 'no rap' thing is true for the album if there is more like this on there. Not sure how I think it'll do here. It's not novelty, like the last least single was. I'm quite surprised how well it's gone down on here, I was expecting some "tacky :/" comments.
June 17, 200916 yr How do I like this so much?! I've never really liked anything by Mariah (bar 'We Belong Together' a bit ) but this is brilliant! 'Touch My Body' was absolutely dreadful and after she released that I thought that I would never like her as an artist, but this just proves how wrong I was!
June 17, 200916 yr Look forward to hearing it when it is nearer to the release date. Can't hear it until the vid is either on Youtube or it is played on the radio. :) Based on some of the comments I have read so far, I am sure I will like it. :)
June 17, 200916 yr On my first listen: It has some really great parts but the song isn't all that brilliant. Im sure it will grow on me though and Im really looking forward to the album!

June 17, 200916 yr I'm surprised there haven't been any "this sucks, I want Mariah to release corny ballads" comments on this board. People - in general - still don't get the whole situation. I'd much rather listen to Mariah's amazing "hood" wordplay as opposed to her generic pop lyrics. I'm not disregarding any of her early 90's work, her debut album is near perfection, but she can't be stuck in this era. Anyway, I'm still in love with the track. The remix is OK, but I prefer the original. I'm glad she's sticking with making urban music instead of working towards a Dance/Electro sound.
June 17, 200916 yr On first listen, which is nearly always wrong anyway, I don't like it :( It sounds like a bland, ok-ish track from E=MC2. I'm sure I will like it eventually though, I just don't think it's anything special.
June 18, 200916 yr Tuneless, structureless, generic, hot mess. I could go on. It's also a bit mutton-dressed-as-lamb in a very much "past it" sort of way. As audacious and over-baring as I've come to expect from the most recent Mimi stuff. Saying that, It'd actually be x100 better if it was sped up a little bit D:
June 18, 200916 yr This is hot. It has the potential to hit #1. The lyrics, the beat, everything is just
June 18, 200916 yr Tuneless, structureless, generic, hot mess. I could go on. How on earth is it 'structureless'? There's a very clear structure... verse / chorus / post-chorus / ad-libs / verse / chorus / post-chorus / ad-libs / chorus / post-chorus / ad-libs.
