June 16, 200916 yr the same happened when we introduced decimalisation... Yes but aren't prices going up enough already? Every day I see food prices creeping up in supermarkets.
June 16, 200916 yr makes no difference, i grew up with the duo-decimal system and im happy to use it. it aint that hard! besides isnt going all metric and 'euro' dumbing down the currency for ease? but you moan (and moan and moan...lol) about dumbing down of music! HA!. Music's art..... :P When one talks about business and commerce, the easiest and most practical method is the best..... The Euro isn't "dumbing down", it's just making a lot of things easier and more accessible..... Why should I tolerate being charged every time I want to change my money or make a transaction with my card when I go to visit my friends and family in Holland, or when I got to Wacken or M'era Luna in Germany....? Travel within the EU zone has been totally democratised and made easier, why shouldn't using cash be the same...?
June 16, 200916 yr Yes but aren't prices going up enough already? Every day I see food prices creeping up in supermarkets. Then the issue's not with the currency, but with greedy merchants.....
June 16, 200916 yr And if your bank is anything like mine, they'll hit you with a charge every time you use that card while in the EU zone because of the whole "conversion" thing.... They sure as sh"t wont be able to justify that if we go with a single currency..... Convenience versus the hassle of trying to keep travellers cheques or wads of euros safe. Debit card with small charge wins every time for me. But there's no way I'd accept paying a charge to get access to my own money in this country, if we joined the single currency or had a dual currency system in place.

I have an uncle in Ireland and my mum and sister went last year and couldn't believe how much things have gone up annd my uncle confirmed they went up when they joined the Euro. I was working in Ireland when the euro came in and didn't notice significant price rises at all. Prices had to be shown in both currencies for some time so it owuld have been hard to hide big price rises.
June 16, 200916 yr the same happened when we introduced decimalisation... Not true. Economists have looked carefully at the evidence in recent years and it simply isn't the case. There was no significant change in inflation at the time of decimalisation.
