Posted June 23, 200916 yr Why is that the main music channels like 4Music, The Box, Kiss, Smash Hits and even Kerrap Kerrang have got rid of the public choice format, in place for a narrow playlist that plays the same songs over and over each hour? Surely this is what is killing them off? I mean the top 5 of the TV airplay chart is very depressing with the exception of Agnes in there. Are they trying to appeal to the lowest common demonintator with this? Plus looking at the selection of videos, it's a very narrow list and the soon to be #1 from La Roux is just being ignored. It doesnt help with these top 40 countdowns either or these ads for shows every ad break. What made them ditch public choice? Was it to do with the scandal of phone-ins which happened on GMTV? Also, are record companies dictating playlists? On top of that, is there any music channel which plays new videos regularly? Edited June 23, 200916 yr by Joinwithus

June 23, 200916 yr Author Does Youtube count? :w00t: There is that, but some of the videos wont work because of that pathetic rule. How you can block the country with the biggest music industry in Europe from seeing videos?
June 23, 200916 yr There is that, but some of the videos wont work because of that pathetic rule. How you can block the country with the biggest music industry in Europe from seeing videos? Despite that rule, I can still see a good proportion of music videos there - or if not, there are plenty of other sites where I *can* find them. :)
June 23, 200916 yr Could it be their companies are affected by recession, that public choice is expensive/can't be afforded?
June 23, 200916 yr Well if like you say they are ignoring La Roux's Bulletproof, it obviously has no impact on the chart these days then.
June 23, 200916 yr It's not been a request service for ages. I do miss a purely songs 24 hours a day channel. I used to love MTV Hits / The Box / Kiss / Smash Hits in the early 00s.
June 23, 200916 yr I think websites like youtube and other internet sites gave the viewers a chance to watch the music videos they wanted to see straight away without making a phone call and waiting for it appear. Of course the Music Channels couldn't manage and money was lost from the phone calls, so they had to get rid of it and include more adverts so they could play music videos. As for music videos going unnoticed, it probably means it's not getting higher views than they thought it would. When the song enters the chart though more people become interested and so the music video gets played more. Once it's gone they amount of plays it gets on music video channels decrease fast to make room for newer songs from the artist. However this can change depending on who the artist is, for example Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera or Green Day. Etc... LOL
