DARREN HAYES RECRUTED BY SIMON COWELL TO WRITE FOR WESTLIFE

Ex Savage Garden frontman and singer Darren Hayes has been writing for Westlife.

He has been recruited by Simon Cowell's record label Syco to write for its stable of artists of which Westlife is the biggest act.

Hayes is also working on a new solo album.

“I have been told I need to clarify my record is probably more `classic' pop than `pop with a capital p', for fear of people expecting (Lady) Gaga,'' Hayes stated.

His longtime musical partner Rob Conley recently went to London to write with Hayes.

Conley has teamed with ex Westlife member Brian McFadden for their new electro project Wall of Soundz.

Louis Walsh has revealed that after a year's break with their friends and family Westlife will return to hit the charts once more in June when they work on their tenth studio album. Louis also said that while he met up with Simon Cowell they jointly managed to mastermind Westlife's comeback. At the time three songs had already been chosen which he believes will be big hits when they are released by the boy band. There have been claims that with Robbie Williams also making a comeback as well as a new album this year the former Take That star could face some competition with Westlife, however Walsh has backed these claims and added that Westlife are not so worried because they reckon they could outsell him anyday. So while Kian Egan swaps vows with his now wife Jodi Albert, Westlife will be revealing their 2010 tour dates with two new dates in Croke Park on their minds. In total the band plans to play 70 concerts coming towards the end of the year including 8 dates at Dublin's 02 arena and other huge venues across Ireland, the United Kingdom and other countries. Shane Filan told the Irish Mirror that they plan on coming back with a bang and they want to make the next album one of their best.

It has also been revealed by the Irish Evening Herald that Louis Walsh's new girlband, which includes Kian's wife Jodi Albert, will be supporting Westlife when they return to the international stage in late 2009. It has been planned that when Westlife play more dates at Croke Park the new girlband will be the support act for at least one of the shows so that they will be able to get a taste of what it is like to play in such a major venue. Louis has confirmed that his band touring with Westlife is definitely on the cards.

The recording process of their tenth album started on 2009 July 1. Nicky said that there will be many first time producers and writers for the upcoming album. He also wanted to have collaboration works with Chris Martin of Coldplay which happens to be a big fan of the band's music. Ryan Tedder of the group OneRepublic and a well-known writer/producer also have done a song for them called "Beautiful", which may appear on their forthcoming album. Another song has been found for them was entitled "Leaving".On the latest, there are already prepared 5 songs given by Simon Cowell for them to record. Darren Hayes, Desmond Child and Ben Adams of the reunited boyband A1 were also about to work with the pop band.

NO MORE COVERS

05 Aug 2009

Stocking stuff... Westlife's Shane Filan is looking forward to the band's new album at Christmast. The singer has promised it won't contain a single cover version. Gulp...

WESTLIFE VOW LATEST ALBUM WILL BE 100% NEW MATERIAL

EXCLUSIVE by Paul Martin

Westlife have promised fans their new album will have no cover versions as they bid to launch the ultimate pop comeback.

The stars - who have topped the charts with their versions of songs such as Mandy, Uptown Girl and Against All Odds - have given the first insight into their new material to the Irish Daily Mirror.

Singer Shane Filan revealed: "The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever. We're working on it in the studios at the minute and it's really exciting. We took a decision that we didn't want to do any covers at all this time round and give the fans 100% new material.

"We know this has to be something special because we have been away for over a year. I think everyone is going to be really surprised when they hear it."

Westlife first released a cover in 1999 when their version of Abba's I Have A Dream scooped them the Christmas and new Millennium No.1 slot. In 2000, they teamed up with Mariah Carey to release a cover of Phill Collins' Against All Odds, which secured them a world wide No1.

A year later, their cover of Billy Joel's 1983 hit Uptown Girl secured them another top spot before they released a version of little-known Northern Ireland band Relish's Hey Whatever.

Barry Manilow's Mandy notched them up another hit in 2003 before their monster anthem You Raise Me Up also went to No1.

Shane added: "We always prefer to release new material but we never had the luxury of a Gary Barlow-type song writer.

"But we're lucky to be working with some amazing writers and I'm sure this album is going to bring us back with a band.

"We want great up-tempo songs and some really strong ballads. That's what we made our name with and that's what we want to do again.

"The plan is to release the album before Christmas and then hit the road for a tour next year."

We Can-Net Believe Leak

21 Aug 2009

Chart-toppers Westlife are reeling after one of their new ballads, As Love Is My Witness, was leaked on the internet.

Shane Filan and his fellow crooners are still working on a new album of original songs, but one track is already being file-shared by fans.

Despite their record label's efforts to limit the leak, the song was still on Youtube yesterday.

But perhaps all is not lost for the band, as cheeky fans have given the ballad the thumbs-up.

Darren Hayes About The Songs He's Written For Westlife

21 Aug 2009

Someone asked Darren Hayes on Twitter if a song he's mentioned he's writing was for Westlife and he replied:

@Christine_mufc no, it' s not. I've done some songs for Westlife - not sure if they'll end up on the album yet. But they're good songs!

Westlife In Sync At Studio

21 Aug 2009

Pop sensations Westlife have been secretly recording with former 'NSync star JC Chasez in Los Angeles, it has emerged.

The Irish chart-toppers have been working with JC - now a record producer - in the studios in recent days.

JC even revealed he was enjoying working with the Irish crooners on his Twitter site. However, the tweet was removed shortly afterwards.

Westlife are spending time in LA and Nashville to meet with producers and songwriters in a bid to make an album of original songs.

Westlife's Shane Filan said: "The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever.

New Lease Of Westlife

21 Aug 2009

BOYS BACK ON TRACK AFTER BREAK

Chart-toppers Westlife returned to work yesterday after taking more than a year off from the industry.

The boys had planned to jet to LA and Nashville last month to start work on their 11th studio album.

But they deferred the move as band member Kian Egan's ill dad Kevin took a turn for the worse - and sadly died last month.

"They gave Kian as much time as he needed to spend with his family," a source revealed.

"They felt they'd taken a year out, so a few more weeks wouldn't matter, but it was important for Kian."

The crooners got down to work on their new album yesterday after jetting over to a London studio.

"They're enthusiastic about getting back to work and they have lots of new plans," said a source.

"All they're concentrating on now is finding the right songs and they'll be going to the US shortly to work with different producers."

Show

Westlife took an extended break shortly after their sell-out Croker show on June 1last year.

But Nicky Byrne recently revealed the boys are brimming with ideas for a new album of original songs.

"It feels fresh - like we're starting all over again," he said.

Oh dear Tedder has lowered his standards.
Well at least its not an album of covers I suppose, they should still write their own though.

I don't get why Westlife are slated tbh. All can sing really well. I was watching my sister's Westlife at Croke Park stadium and they all sang pretty well (espically Shane and Mark).

TBH I agree. They might be cheesy but like you said they sing well especially Mark and Shane.

Then people complain about music snobs.

Good on Tedder.

They sing well yes, but they should use their good voices to do their own songs not make albums of covers :(

They are EXCELLENT on all of their concerts and LIVE! Everyone here who are slating them should go to their concerts to see and hear them

Yeah, cos I dont have anything better to spend £50 quid on......

Why on Earth should I put myself through the musical comatose that is Westlife... I'd sooner pay to go and see Paint Drying Orchestra...... Or Coldplay.....

Tedder doing this for Westlife might be good or bad. I'll say that's good because he's a great songwriter. :)

Watched their concert on TV (Wembley I think?), they were great.

They may sing well, but their songs are $h!t most of the time (when it's not covers), so it makes it hard to like them ...

Exactly. "Singing well" is not the only criteria in a musical act. The vast majority of their songs are terrible IMO.

They get slated because they're crap. Whitney Housten once was an amazing singer, does that still mean I want to listen to her material? ..

Spot on, and also Josh as well...

For me, the material, the music is far more important than mere "technical ability"... I could still enjoy an average or technically "bad" singer if they had amazing tunes (eg, Ian Brown, technically inept singer, but GOD, comes away with some brilliant CHOONS, man..).... The best voice in the world cannot make up for bland, mediocre material.....

Lyrics are the most important for me. A good music with bad lyrics, that's not good...

But if the music is boring, it won't matter how good the lyrics are.

EDIT: That sounds bit wrong what I said. But I wouldn't care much about the vocals.

I have to agree here. For me the sould and the bond of the singer with the music is far more important than a very good technically voice singing bland songs without involvement.

Back to Westlife: if they will have good songs, i am ready to listen. But for me "good songs" are a little bit away of top of the charts  ...

They're not even great singers I don't think, pretty average. They're one act I honestly cannot see the appeal of on any level.

I'm dismayed we'll have to suffer more of them, but at least it looks like it won't be a selection of karaoke cover versions again, so we can be thankful for that.
