Posted July 7, 200915 yr Apparently she will be performing at Michael Jackson's memorial service which is screened 6pm UK time this evening :P On various different channels. This is not 100% deffo at the moment but various sources say it's happening. She of course is supposedly performing 'I'll Be There'. Can she still pull it off? :o
July 7, 200915 yr I heard about this too, I'd be surprised if she could still pull off "I'll Be There" these days. Hopefully whatever she does will be a fitting tribute and not an aembarrassment. :(
July 7, 200915 yr She started off horrendously but I think that was due to the emotion of it all more than anything. Her voice was not great but it was a nice tribute.
July 7, 200915 yr That performance was not the best. But it was obvious that she was really really emotional. Ironically if only her records in the past had a little bit more emotion to take off the edge of her superb technical voice, then I would have liked a lot of her records a lot more.

Which for the first time ever, made one of her ballads listenable.
July 7, 200915 yr I just watched this but had the same kind of reaction as everybody else. At first I was like "dear Lord her voice is shot and she's singing completely live... Dreading the end notes!" but then as they came she seemed to pull them off a lot better than I thought she would. I see Mariah's voice is not the only one that has weathered over the years Mr. Trey Lorenz... I do think she was emotional though, come on you would be if you had Michael Jacksons body in a coffin just a few feet away from you! I'm semi-pleased with how it went.

Me and dead people do not mix at all, i break down completely  So i wouldnt blame Mariah for not performing at her best tonight... However, now that we have seen that she can still sing live, i would like some amazing ballads to come out from this era..
July 7, 200915 yr Well she has made such a promise via Twitter. :P Kind of hinting that one will be the next single... How predictable. :(
July 7, 200915 yr Ironically, she seems better at the big notes compared to the easy ones. Definitely, that's what the weird thing was for me too.

July 8, 200915 yr Here are a few tweets from her... MariahCareyJust recovering from the day. Still filled w/sadness as we listen to KJLH in LA(Stevie Wonder's radio station)paying tribute to MJ(cont)41 minutes ago from TwitterBerry MariahCareyTrying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying. I'm sorry that (cont)35 minutes ago from TwitterBerry MariahCarey.Sorry that I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me.(Cont31 minutes ago from TwitterBerry MariahCareyOne thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people(cont)29 minutes ago from TwitterBerry MariahCareyHe inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts.27 minutes ago from TwitterBerry Awww! I don't think she needed to apologise though! She tried her best, but like Kelly said with his body in that coffin RIGHT in front of her... I'm surprised she lasted on stage TBH.
July 8, 200915 yr I think it's sad to listen and keep in mind that it's MARIAH CAREY singing. She does sounds very emotional, particularly for the first minute or two but she seems to compose herself for the rest (after Trey sings that awful squeak of a note) and still stumbles her way through. She does manage to belt out a few of the bigger notes but can't seem to sing some of the easier bits and ends up with some kind of stop and stall yo-yo effect. Still, I think it was a good tribute from her. It's just a shame that someone known for having an amazing voice, well, doesn't any more.
