Just when I thought she'd given up on cracking the UK after the flop of Radio 1 unsupported first single "Dream Big", Jazzy is back with her imo definite-to-be UK breakthrough and second single "Bust Your Windows". :cheer:

Grammy-nominated as R&B Song of the year - if you don't like this epic quality ballad there must be something wrong with you.

Song is produced by Amy Winehouse Back To Black producer Salaam Remi and has a minor sample of Soulja Boy's "Crank That".

I highly doubt Radio 1 won't support this, it's Grammy nominated etc. So hopefuly it can do wonders for her, too scared to predict where it will peak incase I jinx it but with Radio 1 support I'd say top 20 but without it - flop.

This is the perfect song, the highlight of the album and exactly what she needs to put her on the map in the UK.

The "Spotlight (J-Hud)" of 2009 perhaps? ;o

UK Physical Release: 7 September 2009

Outstanding song, it still makes me  every time I hear it. If there's any justice it'll be so huge...

I do hope the video gets a new edit though. I HATE HATE HATE the yellow lighting!

I really don't like it  should have gone with Need You Bad

This is $h!t! Honestly. Jazmine is really weird... She SHOULD be good, but she really isn't all that IMO. It's awful and goes nowhere

If this is the highlight from the album then it's no wonder she'll flop LOL

Sorry I'm just not keen... AT ALL!

Man, I'm surprised more people aren't digging this. The production is crisp and the attitude in her vocal is just incredible. This song really is great, and I'm hoping it's her breakthrough track in the UK but I doubt it. I don't think the UK will embrace her artistry.

Same, it's not my highlight on the album, but it's still a quality track. I can see the comments about it not going anywhere, which make it a weak candidate for a single, but I can still appreciate the track.

I don't think she'll break the UK with this single or album, it's not commercial or throwaway enough. We complain about R&B being empty and all the same, yet we completely ignore someone who breaks the mould...

OMG, it doesn't go anywhere?! It starts off so placid and calm for a song about revenge and she gradually turns up the vocal fire and it's so powerful at the end without being screamy. It's only not my album highlight because the album is incredible. Deserves to be MASSIVE.

Exactly. This was a huge mainstream success in the US though, and obviously the people who DON'T like the song are too blinded by the unoriginal blandness rotating on Radio 1 to recognize the quality that this track is. Do you think a track "that goes nowhere" will be GRAMMY nominated? Uh no. . :o

Radio 1 should take notice of this, it's even being released in Australia as her first single there. The title is too controvertial and the song too quality to be ignored even if it isn't the most commercial song it still was Jazmine's biggest airplay hit in the US and is her signature song for a reason, and IMO is what should/could put her on the map internationaly.

Her album is so varied, it really depends what type of style of music you like. Jon would probably like "Switch" or "After the Hurricane" maybe because BYW is a bit too R&B, or a bit too bizzare etc for his liking I honestly don't know how you can't like this song or at least not recognize its quality even if its not your taste.

"Need U Bad" is so bland, reggae will flop in the UK.

This song is her only chance for global success until her next album unless she releases "After The Hurricane" which sounds like "Spotlight" Part Two = mainstream success.

If you don't like this song then you might like a whole bunch of other songs on the album because only "Call Me Guilty" and "One Night Stand" are a bit similar sounding to BYW. "Lions Tigers Bears" is classical, "Switch" is pop, "Dream Big" is dance, "Need U Bad" is reggae - it really is so varried there's something on the album that everyone should like. I just like everything except "Need U Bad" and tbh I never heard of her until BYW was overplayed to death here in South Africa last year and at first I didn't get the appeal at all but the song grew on immensely. . She is very marmite on the first few listens for the typical listener but once you start understanding and getting a feel for her songs you completely fall inlove with them.

After The Hurricane is exceptional. Her adlibs after each chorus take me somewhere else. OUTER SPACE if you will.

Just coz it was "grammy nominated" doesn't make it a good song

I honestly have tried to get into her, but she just does nothing for me (Except for 'After the Hurricane' - which is actually very good). 'Bust Your Windows' is just a bit "meh" to me, but that's just my personal taste lol. Her voice aggravates (sp?) me too. It's like Amy Winehouse meets Estelle with a TINY bit of Alicia (which should SURELY be a good thing right? :() thrown in.

I can see that she's credible and writes/produced most/some of her stuff. I appreciate her for that. But I just can't get into her music so much...

We're not angry at you Jon, I'm just surprised, I found her album one of the most instant I've ever listened to! I only picked it up as it was cheap and a friend kept going on about it... SOOOO glad I did. Agree on 'Need U Bad' blandness but the rest.. mighty fine!

I think being Grammy Nominated does make it a good song.. but good songs are never going to be to everyone's taste. No song ever will!

How old is this song now, like a yr?????

Almost! Was the second US single round about September last year, and now it's the second UK/first international single almost a year later. She's really trying to make a success of this era. At least her album went Gold in the US and she picked up two Hot 100 top 40 smashes from it, "In Love With Another Man" was just released as the 4th US single and she's on Ace Hood's latest single, busy busy she deserves every bit of success she can get.

I quite like the song, the video is abit rubbish though.

Yeah. ;( She should be busting windows, the broken glass trail toward the bedroom is quite clever though. Her videos for "Dream Big" and "Lions Tigers Bears" are much better, hopefuly she will do a reshoot since this video is almost a year ancient.

After The Hurricane is exceptional. Her adlibs after each chorus take me somewhere else. OUTER SPACE if you will.

That is SO TRUE. Thats exactly what I thought a couple of days ago when listening to that song. I think the standout tracks are After the Hurricane, In love with another man and Call me guilty, but I love so many of them, they're all so different.

  • 4 weeks later...
Is anyone going to see her at the Jazz Cafe in London in a few weeks? I was waiting until payday and I feel so stupid because now it's sold out bar tickets with a table which are double the price.. she'd better be back!
