IIRC I did warn at some point that the bottom finishers of the previous contest would inevitably have to make way to some degree to accommodate Deandria, who had a place reserved anyway, and Scherzland, so I did say that relegation would be a possibility...

how does this work

Yeah, I know how this works, kinda. Don't worry, you aren't on it :P The limit is 53/54 countries (one/two AQs), however there's been some confusion as to how people get from the list into the contest. As far as I'm concerned, now we're back to an amount of people this high, non-voting in the final will get you disqualified from the following contest, but you will not have a place reserved for the contest after that.

We could take two potential routes. We could take the route that everyone seemingly agreed with when I asked a few months ago, which was modelled on the Nation Song Contest's solution - over there, they have a waiting list, and if a country drops out for whatever reason their place is filled by the highest person on the list, and so on and so forth. However, the second I implement this seemingly everyone wants to return to the contest (well, it would've been too easy for me otherwise :P) and we get complaints that people can't just dodge out of one contest if they don't feel like it, so we introduce a reservation system for the next contest...

...at that point however, we are faced with a problem. Everyone in the previous contest is automatically reserved for the next contest, however if we have a reservation made two contests prior and we have had a full contest, if everyone in the previous contest signs up we have to involve relegation. Here comes the rub...at what point does relegation start and stop? Do we only do it for places reserved in advance? Do we do a rotating-door system whereby we relegate the lowest x finishers (or the ESC system of the late 90s/early 00s where it's based on average positions/points?) of a contest to bring in everyone on the waiting list, and then do likewise for the people who leave? All of these ideas have been met with opposition, and it's actually an impossible task trying to please everyone - let alone a certain few who seem to be unhappy with a status quo, only to reject the solutions they suggest once implemented :P BASICALLY, the waiting list is in a limbo because we're entirely unsure what to do with it as both ways have predictably been met with opposition and there is seemingly no middle way as long as the contest carries on to be as ridiculously popular as it is. I'm tempted to go with the relegation system for the lowest finishers on average from the last three contests, but knowing the BJSC I will doubtless be ripped mercilessly apart for not defending the rights of those with hideous taste, or it will descend into another pointless argument about bias towards big name countries and how this penalises those who send amazing songs which suffer apparently because we haven't heard the country name before. Ho hum.

Gah. Way to confuse me Tyron. :( I think I "get" it now though. :heehee:

Would it not just be easier to do a first-come first-serve system? I know this could lead to some minor problems, but it would be fairer overall and a lot easier to manage. That said, I don't have to organise it, so ignore me if you feel I have my blinkers on. :P

We thought of first-come-first-serve, the only problem raised with it though was the fact that not everybody is on when reservations open etc. (or some are on holiday etc.). I suppose you could ask to have a place reserved but then everyone would be at it, citing whatever reason they 'couldn't be on' :( We then moved from there to the idea of reserving places for finalists or top tenners or most successful but then got accused of elitism, as always seems to be the case whenever we base things on results nowadays...

Put simply, I'd ideally like to go for a first-come-first-serve system, but given the bloodbath reservation is at the moment can you imagine the bloodbath for getting a place in the contest? :( There'd be massive complaints after the first time I can guarantee...

ESSENTIALLY, the only perfect solution is losing about 10 or 20 countries :smoke:

That's me out of the next comp :snif:

I seriously don't understand this mentality of people vote for the country name.

Has anyone seen mine and Tyron's recent results?

OI. If you ignore the two DNQs we're actually on a pretty fantastic run :o 19-4-x-4-x-3-...I wonder where next? :kink:

I don't see how the waiting list can work in any way which isn't "harsh but fair". You have your countries from this contest, and any others go on the Waiting List. The country which signs up to the list first is at the top and they are the first one that get a spot in the next contest if there is one available. If someone misses a contest, then when they want to come back they should go to the bottom of that list, whether they've been an ever present or it's only their 1st contest, no one should get priority over another. Also, the reason that someone missed a contest should not matter, no internet, the server was down, forgetfulness, on holiday or couldn't be bothered. Back of the queue. Harsh? Yes. Fair? Yes. Everyone knows where they stand and what the consequences are.

Also, there should be no reserving places in future contest. If Utopia and Herzebenia say well in advance they cannot participate in XXI due to being on holday they should not be able to reserve a place in XXII. What if everyone from XXI also wants to enter? The contest has become bigger yet again (which would put it over the limit) and people on the Waiting List say shouldn't it be increased further? And they'd have a point. And then what happens the next time it happens, you could end up with a contest with over 60 countries just because people have reserved a place in a future contest. Just no, to the back of the queue. Rules need to be understandable and fair. Everyone should know where they stand, if they don't like... tough. It's the same for everyone.

It's pretty annoying that the mods have made a plan and won't announce it before tomorrow :o

Honestly, I think that's fairier too. When i am (and most of us) on holiday I find time to participate in the contest, it's the information era for God's sake  Almost every place has to have online access. (UK I mean mostly of course). Surely, you can't not 'have life' replacing it with BJSC, but most people combine both perfectly to be honest. If you participate in XX and finish bottom of the semi with a risky (key word) song you might not get a chance to participate in XXI due to some country returning back from the holiday/remembering that such thing as BJSC exists. :(

There is a reason we're saving it for after the contest.

with 7 DNQs in a row Sangria's a$$ will be the first to be kicked out
