January 18, 200917 yr Capital's music team has gone right down the ******* since Sheena Mason left last year. The Hit Music Network, that Capital pioneers, is an absolute shambles. The main playlist is poor, ignoring some of the UK's most popular bands, like Kaiser Chiefs and Razorlight. As for the level of rap and hip-hop - absolute nonsense. The people of London do NOT want to hear an Akon song every hour. Anything he is involved in is immediately playlisted by Capital nowadays. I'm sorry to say that it's utter crap. Even worse, is Capital's recurrents policy. The recurrent bank is boring, dull, repetitive and tiresome. They say they have embarked on a policy of not playing guitar music. The theory itself is the work of an absolute idiot. A hit music station cannot ignore any of the four genres of pop, rock/indie, RnB/hip-hop and dance. This leaves the recurrents bank sounding even more lame than ever. The stupidity of it all, however, is compounded by the fact that they still playlist occasional American rock bands for new music. I can honestly say that Capital has never sounded worse than it has done for the last year or so, since Scott Muller and Sheena Mason left. RIP to our 95.8. Edited January 18, 200917 yr by Señor Hugo
January 18, 200917 yr Yeah it is good Red dragon has got better in the music it plays Red Dragon has because it was even crapper before. Capital, Richard Clarke aside, has declined immeasurably over the last year or so.

Well I for one appreciate the lack of indie. For that, there's already Radio 1 with them playing a guitar act every 2 songs. I do agree with the recurrents thing though.

March 21, 200917 yr No wonder British music has hit the skids, with hardly any support from our own stations.
March 21, 200917 yr I've said before that Capital's playlisting has been mediocre since old boss Scott Muller left. The former head of music, Sheena Mason, also left soon after. That said, the playlist size had increased to about 45-50 songs. Recently, a lack of new additions every week (you'll notice that the quoted new additions are actually new over the course of the last three weeks) has seen it dip back down to 40. Extremely odd, especially since the station has taken on a fresher sound lately. Their old "95.8 Capital FM" jingles also relaunched today for the first time since 2005.
March 21, 200917 yr Author well I'm glad they left, the music on Capital has had a vast improvement since their departure. All they need to do now is playlist more current songs, there are quite a few dance tracks they could be playing, and also reduce the recurrents.

All they need to do now is playlist more current songs, there are quite a few dance tracks they could be playing, and also reduce the recurrents. The audience figures would disagree with you. Scott Muller was axed, inexplicably, after Q3 2007. Here are the figures: Under Scott Muller: Q3 2007: 1.707 million listeners Since he left: Q4 2007: 1.517million listeners Q1 2008: 1.563million listeners Q2 2008: 1.617million listeners Q3 2008: 1.599million listeners Q4 2008: 1.624million listeners I think anyone in the industry will tell you that Capital sounded immeasurably better under his governorship.
