May 2, 200916 yr A slight improvement. They seem now to be splitting the Capital and XFM playlist so they barely cover any of the same artists.
May 2, 200916 yr I would guess that Just Dance and the awful Kelly Clarkson single will be played all year. Do they ever play those new songs on this list -- except for maybe at 3am? I will be in London this weekend to see if it's improved or the same tired songs over and over. I can't bear to listen online when the superior Radio 1 and 2 are available.

May 2, 200916 yr The only thing Capital plays EVER is anything with Neyo stamped on it and the now way over-played 'Spotlight' by J-Hud. Le sigh.

May 2, 200916 yr Author Its better now, with more dance and R&B and less guitar crap. Anyway, I think i'll be sick of Guetta and Freemasons by the end of June when its released
May 2, 200916 yr Its better now, with more dance and R&B and less guitar crap. Anyway, I think i'll be sick of Guetta and Freemasons by the end of June when its released I'm talking as far back as the 90s, when they did pure pop, similar to now - but with less RnB/hip hop rubbish. Yes, though, my favourite period at Capital was Scott Muller's reign from September 2007-December 2008; a very listenable hit music /pop-rock slanted format.
May 2, 200916 yr Author there are loads of pop-rock stations, not many play dance, the genre needs more support. Although Capital is hardly a dance station, but at least they playlist a few. There is not much pure pop around anymore, wouldnt work these days.

In the UK we have a lot of CHR stations. Most play more rock than RnB, that's why you have that impression. The only reason is because rock/pop is more popular with listeners. There are a whole load of dance/RnB specialist stations: KISS and GALAXY are both all over the country. There're other stations like JUICE etc. There're also specialist rock/indie/alternative stations like XFM and KERRANG!. Then CHR stations have to provide the middle ground. My argument is that Capital sounded better with its format which leaned more towards indie/rock/pop.
May 2, 200916 yr Author Oh I know that, but on whether a station is better or worse with regards to music is a matter of opinion. I think they balance it out much better these days than when they focused on indie-rock stuff that was all over UK radio anyway. What was Capital's web address in the late 90s?

XFM and Kerrang! are NOT all over the country, XFM = London and Manchester Kerrang! - West Midlands That's it for all the specialist rock/indie stations, :snif: . Although In fairness Absolute Radio do play some decent current Indie/rock though. Edited May 3, 200916 yr by GAV
May 3, 200916 yr Oh I know that, but on whether a station is better or worse with regards to music is a matter of opinion. I think they balance it out much better these days than when they focused on indie-rock stuff that was all over UK radio anyway. What was Capital's web address in the late 90s? I believe they first registered as www.capitalfm.com officially. They've always also used www.capitalfm.co.uk - which is what the former used to redirect to. When they rebranded to Capital Radio in '06 they changed the web address to www.capitalradio.com which would redirect to www.capitalfm.co.uk and then to www.capitalradio.co.uk. The official web address is currently www.capitalfm.com again, but redirects to www.capitalradio.co.uk still! I think all four have been in action since they launched their website in the 90s.

Although In fairness Absolute Radio do play some decent current Indie/rock though. True - but that's on analogue. You can pick up both XFM and Kerrang! virtually everywhere in the UK on DAB radio. I'm not a massive fan of Kerrang! but XFM does play some tip top indie/rock/alternative music.
