24 has been named the most addictive television show of all time.

The Kiefer Sutherland-led series beat off competition from programmes such as Lost and Friends to claim the top position in a poll voted by users of LoveFilm.com, winning by 3,000 votes, Contactmusic reports.

The drama, which has been on the air since 2001, secured 19% of the votes, while Lost placed second with 17%. Hit US sitcom Friends rounded out the top three with 10%.

Heroes, The Wire, Doctor Who, CSI, Prison Break and The Sopranos charted from fourth to ninth respectively. HBO comedy Sex And The City came in at tenth, capturing only 2% of the votes.

I have to say I agree with the poll. I watch a lot of these big running serial dramas and 24 is the one that leaves me wanting to watch the next eppy straight away. Lost is also like that, but it's more 'WTF' rather than a pure cliffhanger so its fun to theorise about what's going to happen next.

the only one of those programmes i've seen is doctor who and i've only seen about 5 episodes of that. i'm not too keen on shows like that where you have watch them every week to get what's going on. though i do watch big brother.
Those results suggest that people merely answered with their favourite TV shows ever :heehee: That's understandable though of course, I guess we love most of our favourites because there's something addictive about them.
24 is disgustingly addictive. I literally cannot just watch one hour, i have to watch at least 3/4 at a time..

I've never really been able to get into 24. Sure I'll watch it when it's on but I don't panic if I miss an episode.

Interesting results, have to say I don't agree with them at all though.

(Sorta) O/T: True Blood is seriously addictive. I know its fairly new but when i was first watching it, i was watching it one after the other and soon it got to 7 in the morning before i went to bed
I watched the first episode of True Blood on a whim, and proceeded to watch the next 11 episodes in the span of two days.

I never got in to 24... though it's a good show

I would say that Damages is highly addictive. The flash-forwards are very intriguing and seeing Glenn Close is also a big factor.

Another show that I think is highly addictive is In Treatment. I've been watching in it in the last couple of days and it's pure gold. after seeing one session you just want to see immediately the next one... and the show is very well written so that make it even better.

When i first got into Charmed properly i got major addicted and just couldn't wait to get the next boxset.

I got season 5 for my 19th and timed it all perfectly so i finished season 4 on the morning of my brithday so i could spend all day in bed watching season 5 :heehee: S5 was the last one i needed so over my birthday i managed to watch 1 through 8 for the first time. The only thing i left my room for was work tbh.

I started watchin Bones when i was ill having stolen it from a flatmates harddrive. I think i'd seen one maybe two episodes on CH7.

Before i knew it i'd spent 3days in bed and had watch 3 and a half seasons

I find Gossip Girl seriously addictive. After watching 1 episode on ITV2 I have now watched all of the ones that have aired in the UK!!

It's so good!

As far as I'm concerned, the true "TV Heroin" of all-time was Buffy the Vampire Slayer, my friends and I would make the Friday night Buffy/Angel double bill on Sky a bit of a social occasion....

This. I have to watch at least a couple of episodes, especially when theres a big cliffhanger. Gossip Girl is amaze.

Also Desperate Housewives is ridiculously addictive, when I got the latest season boxset I found myself watching about five episodes back to back.

I can kind of take or leave DH tbh, I'm only really about a third of the way through season 5 just now, so, it's not something I find compulsive as such....

"Lost" on the other hand, abso-freakin'-lutely...... And, I think "Fringe" may actually become the new "TV Heroin" fix for me..... Mainly because of Walter, what an absolutely great character he is.....

Lost is so stupid! I could never be bothered with it. I'm glad Channel 4 don't have it anymore

I think most TV shows that you watch religiously are addictive really. Especially the dramas that have continious storylines. For example I watch Supernatural and the episodes are stand-alone episodes really with an on-going mythology, so when I finished watching an episode I don't really think 'need the next episode now!' (saying that I watched the first season boxset within 2 days in 2005!).

Lost is absolutely amazing. If you don't watch it and you hear about what happens then (and rightly so) you're going to think WTF. But there is no TV show like it, with the quality of acting, storylines and originality of the goings on - and rightly so when it finishes next year it will clean up at the Emmy Awards.

WALTER BISHOP

i have loved him ever since ep 1 when they are in the car, and he randomly comes out with 'I think i just pissed myself'.

I really enjoyed Fringe, especially towards the end, looking forward to series 2.

Never watched 24. It just screams 'horrendous' at me and it's not my sort of thing.

Despite 'Heroes' going more and more downhill it is addictive because you like to see what truely ridiculous things they come up with next.

If I were to answer this question I'd say Buffy, X Files & Friends. Each for different reasons.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got into Alias very recently, i bought season1 last week and i'm nearly finished season 2 :heehee: i had to buy season 3 today so i don't run out.

Alias so often ends on a cliffhanger so i just feel the need to watch it compulsively.

I watched first four seasons of 24 but I thought it was the opposite to addictive. It started out often quite ok but I wasn't really waiting to see what is gonna happen next...and then after about 10-12 episodes it started to repeat itself and I was like damn, I have watched it this far so I will suffer until the end and then started reading day's newspaper the same time etc but eventually got to the end. Of course I didn't remember lessons learned from previous season by the time the next one started so again the same thing happened. All seasons were really dreary really after Jack Bauer starts to chase the bad guys (and not the other way round how the season usually starts) and finally after four seasons I finally learnt my lesson and have never watched it again.

Prison Break is the same way, the first season started of well but then it just kept repeating itself until the end of the season. The second season had a bit different premise but then after a few episodes the same repetition happened and I finished with that show after that season.

And Fringe...I watched like 10 first episodes but that was it. The plotlines got so over the top and ridiculous and all three main characters are horribly annoying, especially that Walter one. This rubbish would have been long cancelled in the US if it wouldn't have American Idol lead-in and the fact that AI almost every time runs overtime a bit and therefore Fringe gets the AI ratings for its first half-hour.

I really don't find comedies really addictive and I never watched a few from the list like Sopranos so for me the only one that could be considered a bit addictive is Lost.

And Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that was a great show.
