I think you're kind of tarring everyone with the same brush there Dave. A lot of people will listen to commercial radio because it plays more music that they like, or it's what their friends listen to, or etc. etc. And it's not like the Radio 1 chart show. is of such high quality anyway... it's only going to get worse, since they've fired the good presenter, and kept the bad one!

What I was saying though was like the "run of the meal" Commercial Stations that belong in big groups i.e. Capital, Heart etc. Stations that have been around long enough to know better.

Like B-rye said the other day, the above stations are no longer local to the areas they broadcast to, and are neither independant in planning their playlists. B-rye knows what I mean on the score of listening to stations like Reading 107 etc...Commercial Stations that actually have a Playlist that doesn`t revolve around the same songs going round and round. I mean why on earth would you want to live in Reading and have to listen to a station that is exactly the same as the Radio Station in London?

In Reading the FM wavelength picks up Capital, The Eagle, Heart (infact 4 different Heart Stations now), all of which are exactly the same. Even the Station that was 2tenFm now broadcasts from London most of the day. Reading 107 has become the only true FM Local/Independant Station in Reading. It doesn`t play the same old stuff. Over on AM, we have the great Student Station "Blast 1386". That one probably has the best playlist around...one minute your hearing Rod Stewart then it`s Motorhead!

It`s these trapped big group Radio Stations that have ruined it, really.

I think the physical isn`t available until 21st Sept.

Coincidence for me to see you posting this weeks chart from 1993 as I both listened to that top 40 and watched that TOTP this week! That Sarah Washington cover truly was dreadful wouldnt even have made the top 200 today!

cheers Dave

That chart from 1993 contains some good stuff but also quite a fair bit of dross.

I'd forgotten about Arienne by Tasmin Archer. Not as good as Sleeping Satellite or In Your Care but still good. Even if she may as well be singing Ariel as that part of the song sounds like a complete lift of the Dean Friedman song of that name.
