January 2, 201015 yr 17 unbeaten, 6 clean sheets in a row, should've beaten the form Premiership side, going up etc etc. If Joe Hart doesn't get the England gloves after the World Cup (if not for it) and told they're his to lose then Fabio is mad.
January 2, 201015 yr Barrow are $h!t though. :P You certainly weren't saying that in the first place Roo ;) Fair play, you were right about the team and the fans being well up for it (The Barrow fans were exceptional, 7,000 of them and at times they outstang us - even at 3-0 down), but as I predicted it was the difference in class that made the difference. Fulop was very rarely troubled, although they did manage to cause us problems down either wing - mostly down to McCartney and Bardsley being appalling full backs. You could tell how badly Barrow wanted it but they just couldn't convert their chances into goals.

I'm sure Barrow put up a fight, but they don't have any real quality in their squad and their only real tactic is hoof and move - which is pretty ineffective. Non-league teams are always the bogey teams if you under estimate them. I'm pretty sure had Stoke not scared straight away from the long throw then they'd have really struggled. p.s. this ITV coverage is p***-poor. Why are they showing the match they showed only a few hours ago as their main match? Stupid.

Barrow played some cracking football throughout the match, and to say they played hoof-ball against us would be to undermine the effort that their players put in. They got the ball down, they got played it into the danger areas and they genuinely caused our defence problems at times. If they'd had a slightly better finisher up front then I dare say they'd have nicked a goal. I said pages ago that the difference between us and non-league clubs is the quality, it's not like we absolutely raped Barrow because we didn't. We put in a pretty average performance and Barrow put in a very good performance but couldn't put away their chances. They certainly didn't hoof the ball up at every opportunity, they didn't sit back and defend for the full 90, their team played well and their fans were outstanding. Against a lower league opposition i'd have bet my life savings that they'd have won, or at least scored. Their keeper was outstanding, could have been about 5-0 if it hadn't been for some genuinely top-class saves he made. Barrow also had 7 shots on target, which all but confirms what I was saying about them having a go at it. As a sidenote, I see the best Liverpool could manage was a draw against low-scoring Reading. It does make you think what could have happened had Rafa rested Torres and Gerrard... PS: Agreed about ITV. Edited January 2, 201015 yr by Mykul

That's the thing with non-league teams as it's been shown countless times if you under estimate them they'll make you pay. Quality is always going to be a difference as there's a reason why the players are playing in the 5th tier of English football and not the top tier. Barrow are a pretty poor team imo, but their players and fans will have rose to the occasion (always amazes me where all these fans pop up from when we play the big games though!). I think home advantage counts for a lot as well, away draws against non-league teams are never good. I'm glad York got an away draw though, as we were never going to win the FA Cup and i'd much rather the cash windfall and focus on promotion now back to where we belong. Was same old-same old for Liverpool. Looked top draw at times but then they just sat back. Reading look a different side with their new manager, would have liked to have won there and then but not too fussed about a replay. I never see the emphasis on Torres and Gerrard either, Gerrard's been utter dog-$h!t when he's been fit this season (as shown again today) and Torres is playing with an injury but his sheer quality means he can produce a piece of magic at any moment in time. Pretty confident we'll batter them at Anfield.

As I said, you were right about their fans as they brought 7,000 up and outsang us at times (Even at 3-0 down) and you cannot fault their team's effort but then quality was always going to be the difference and like I said, we hardly played outstandingly and yet won without conceding pretty comfortably. As for the emphasis about Torres/Gerrard, Roo, as someone who went to the 1-0 win against you lot, and whether or not it came under fortunate circumstances or not we fully deserved the win as your lot were poor. Very poor. Without those two in your side you look short on confidence and you lack creativity and that killer finish. To be honest Roo the best I can sum it up is that Portsmouth caused us more problems at home than your lot did (And I detest Portsmouth and their team of Championship-standard players). It's not something I would enjoy saying as i'd much rather Liverpool was in the title chase than Man Utd or Chelsea but you seriously need to keep them both fit or I honestly cannot see you finishing in the top 4. That is, unless Rafa pulls off the transfer coup of the January window.

I don't think any manager or player likes playing against them purely because you don't know what you're going to expect against them. Quality shows, but sometimes it's not always enough to beat grit and determination. Today it did. Liverpool have been below par all season. Yes Alonso has been a big blow, but losing one player does not disrupt your whole team. We've been messed over with injuries and it cost us dearly at the beginning of the season. (Torres, Gerrard, Skrtel, Aurellio, Agger, Riera, Benayoun, Johnson, Kelly). It's not good and it disrupts the whole spine of the team. Torres and Gerrard won't get fit. Both need operations but we can't give them the time to have the ioperations as we do need them as they're our best players, but they don't make our side. I still believe we'll be Top 4, and i've seen nothing yet that will convince me that we won't. Yes we've been poor but this happens every year during Christmas time. Beginning of the season we were playing decent enougn, but we just got messed over by injuries and it's disrupted the whole team. Don't hold much hope for the January transfer window unless we have some investors in the club (unlikely). Is not good when pretty much every other club in the Premier League can out-spend you. This ITV coverage is really getting on my grit now. Can't believe over an hour in and York haven't even been on yet. Absolute joke

Absolute joke Said it before, and i'll say it again; given the choice between Barrow at home or Chelsea away i'd take Barrow any day of the week. I'm sorry Roo but with Bruce picking the strongest side available, nothing but a win was expected. We didn't play outstandingly but we put away our chances. The difference? Quality. There have been a few teams below par this season Roo, the difference being they're picking up points and not dropping them. After the Liverpool match I was saying to a Liverpool fan that you're very poor without Torres and Gerrard and he fully agreed. Hardened Liverpool fan, season ticket holder, made the trip to the Stadium of Light and he couldn't argue that you struggle without them both. As i've said, I actually don't mind Liverpool and I wanted you to be in the title shake-up this season to break up the monotony of a Man Utd/Chelsea two-horse race but clearly you've already dropped too many points. You have a good squad but the players you've got are not good enough to replace world-class players like Gerrard and Torres and that's why you're falling short. As for the ITV coverage, it's an absolute disgrace. I feel whole-heartidly sorry for Barrow fans. If the highlights they've showed aren't biased I don't know what is. They practically showed all our chances and none of Barrows which is very, very harsh on the non-league side who played valliantly and put up more of a fight than the scoreline suggests. Fuck off ITV you useless cunts and give the FA Cup back to the BBC or Sky or someone who knows what the fuck they're doing.
January 2, 201015 yr After reading the last few posts I'm glad I haven't bothered watching ITV's highlights programme. How can they expect to cover 26 matches (as it would have been without postponements) in a 90 minute programme - more like 70-75 minutes after commercial breaks?

Well when you put it like that then I can see why, but even when you play one of the top sides you never know what you're going to get. They normally put out a weakened team so as long as you're top of your game you can beat them. We're a weaker team without Torres and Gerrard but I do not read into the theory that we need them. Last season they were both injured again for large parts, yet if it was not for some 18yr old Italian we'd have won the league! Unfortunately for Liverpool a lot of things haven't gone our way this season - injuries, beach ball goals, decisions going against you, decisions not going for you. Unfortuntely it's football and i'm not gonna moan about it but too much stick is given imo. Liverpool are expecting to mount a title challange, and at the moment Rafa's working on a show-string budget that a mid-table team would struggle to work with. We are lacking some more quality players I agree but the simple fact is we can't afford them. Hoping this will change, but I don't see it. I just hope the younger players are able to come through and fully flourish. ITV highlights were an absolute joke. Can't believe how little they showed of York, Luton and Barrow even if they did get beat. Absolute joke, but then i'd expect nothing less from ITV. Just makes you appreciate the BBC coverage even more.

January 3, 201015 yr http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/47021000/jpg/_47021827_wigan466.jpg GOOD LORD Att: 5,335. And I hear half of those were Hull fans. Oh dart. Our attendance was hardly spectacular, but Christ.
January 3, 201015 yr That must be degrading for the Wigan players though as well.. Anyway with regards to the current scoreline I only have one thing to say: :banghead:
January 3, 201015 yr Right, I don't actually think I've ever been this ANGRY at my team before. What an absolute joke. Ridiculous. We were completley off our game, Rooney was p*** poor and the only man who did a good job for us today was Fabio. Kudos to Leeds, they defended well and Beckford was on form today but ARGH. So annoyed.
January 3, 201015 yr Author I hate both clubs with an absolute passion but ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I bet Fergie doesn't get slated in the media though, in the same way Rafa would if his team lost - double standards! Didn't see any of the game but my Facebook feed is full of the suprising gobby Man Utd fans very quiet and all the Leeds fans celebrating as if they'd won the damn thing. @D
January 3, 201015 yr I was in tesco shopping when the game was in extra time, there was so many people around the tv it was un real, there was workers and stuff as well, everyone was rooting for Leeds to win other than about 2 people, it was unreal, it was blocking the aisles haha.
January 3, 201015 yr Tottenham v Leeds is a potential cracker ;o Have to say glad we're not going to Whitehart Lane.
