April 24, 201015 yr Phew West Ham, dire season but all but mathematically safe now :) Scott Parker HAS to be an outside bet for the England squad, surely?
April 24, 201015 yr There's murmurs of them going into administration aren't there? They'll have to have quite a clear out this summer, too many high earners etc.
April 24, 201015 yr Yeah their chairman has denied saying they'll go into Administration. However if a chairman has to come out and say something like that you know it's a possibility. Their wage bill is in the top 10 in the Premiership, paying £50m on wages with a turnover of £60m. 1) No wonder they're in a dire financial position. 2) What the f*** on?! They have like no decent players? They need a clearout but who is there to clearout. Their strikers are poor, the only one even remotely Premiership quality is Altidore and that's mainly because he's still really young. But then he's on loan anyway so it'll make little difference. Jimmy Bullard is a good player but surely no one would sign him. He cost £5m and earns £50k a week. No club in the Premiership is that daft to pay so much for someone so unreliable, they'd take a huge loss and he'd have to agree to a pay cut, of at least 50% I reckon. Hunt is ok I suppose but he's over-rated. Geovanni was a three month wonder, he might got abroad I suppose, no one in the Prem will sign him. And then players like Zayatte, Mendy, Garcia, Marney, Boateng, Kilbane, Barmby... they're all either dreadful or past it. Being completely honest, I'm not sure I would take any of their players to put in Forest's starting XI. Maybe Hunt as left wing isn't one of our strongest points. The three teams coming down actually make it so I wouldn't mind not going up, they're all dreadful. Burnley could be a threat because they spent wisely in the Premiership. But with Laws as manager? I'd fear Norwich and Leeds more than I would the three coming down.
April 24, 201015 yr Phew West Ham, dire season but all but mathematically safe now :) Scott Parker HAS to be an outside bet for the England squad, surely? Burnley can still send West Ham down although that does mean they have to beat Liverpool tomorrow.
April 25, 201015 yr Burnley can still send West Ham down although that does mean they have to beat Liverpool tomorrow. And then also win their remaining two games, hope West Ham lose theirs and somehow make up a difference of 20 goals. It ain't happening. It's like Hull still being mathematically safe but for all intents and purposes, they're relegated. If results go Sunderland's way over the next couple of weeks we're in with a shout of finishing 10th, but i'd still settle for my original pre-season prediction of 12th.

If Burnley win their last three games they will have 36 points. West Ham only have 34. As you say, their superior goal difference is effectively worth an extra point which is why I'm saying Burnley have to beat Liverpool to stay in with a chance.
April 25, 201015 yr Exciting weekend, I think? This could go to the end of the season. One of the most exciting finishes that I can recall to a Premier League campaign. Sadly, a repeat of the result at the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final (not the score) for Carlisle against Southampton. Need a good result this Saturday to boost their confidence for next season. I am not too optimistic about our final game away to Norwich. :heehee:
April 25, 201015 yr Author Race for 4th is exciting again. Not sure who'll get it. I don't think Liverpool will, but if they beat Chelsea, I might start believing (although I think the game will be a draw). Spurs must be favourites, but let's be honest if any team is going to f*** it up it will be Spurs. Title race is v.interesting. Hope to God Chelsea win it, although I do have that sneaky feeling Man Utd will win it, although a lot of it does depend on the Liverpool game. Burnley relegated today as well. I really do have that feeling they'll sort of end up like West Brom i.e a yo-yo club. They've spent wisely, and the parachute payment into the Championship will really help them if they use it wisely.
April 25, 201015 yr Meh @ the title race being between two awful, awful teams and also the race for the Champions League being between teams that even as a neutral I can't really say I want to finish 4th. With how tight the bottom of the table was a few weeks ago I think it's a shame the relegation battle's fizzled out, it had the potential to be quite interesting. Burnley relegated today as well. I really do have that feeling they'll sort of end up like West Brom i.e a yo-yo club. They've spent wisely, and the parachute payment into the Championship will really help them if they use it wisely. Agreed there, fair play to the Burnley board for preparing for it and securing everything financially.
April 25, 201015 yr Author Agreed, I thought the relegation race would be a tight finish, but it's sort of just been Hull and Burnley collapsing really. Hull are in so much trouble when they go down financially, although it really does depend what happens. I think if they went straight back up again they might be able to avoid being in major financial trouble (although looking at their squad now, that seems unlikely). Just goes to show, SKY have really ruined football as we knew it with money. If we took away the televison rights to football, so many clubs would have to fold. I think they should do televised rights how Spain do theirs - each club gets to negotitate their own contract. Obiously the top teams would get more money, but I think it would save the smaller clubs from getting too much money, when there's a huge likelihood they're not going to be financially stable if they were to ever get relegated.
April 26, 201015 yr The race for the title is interesting, I don't like it when a runaway leader at the top takes it a few weeks before the season is over. I don't like either of the teams that are in the running there, but at least it is an interesting finish. Another thing that is undecided is who occupies the final play off place for the challenge to get to the Premiership. Also who is relegated from the Championship to League One. Crystal Palace play West Brom this evening. If Crystal Palace win, it relegates Sheffield Wednesday. Not very likely to happen, but it is possible. It could go to the last game of the season, when Sheffield Wednesday are at home to Crystal Palace. What a finale that would be.
April 28, 201015 yr Too easy for Inter. Barca just aren't the same when they come up against a team who can actually defend. Magnificent performance from the Italians, a masterclass in the art of defending.
April 30, 201015 yr Exciting end to the season I think. There is a number of good fixtures coming up here in the different leagues. Premiership examples, Manchester City vs Aston Villa. This fixture should be good owing to them both fighting for fourth spot. Mid week, Manchester City vs Tottenham for the same reason. Championship, Sheffield Wednesday vs Crystal Palace. Both battling to save themselves from relegation. What a match to have as the last of the season. League One, Hartlepool vs Exeter, both battling against relegation. League Two, Grimsby vs Barnet both hoping to avoid relegation as well. I am hoping that Carlisle end on a good note for their home supporters. Edited April 30, 201015 yr by Flatcap
May 1, 201015 yr Wednesday - Palace is live on BBC1 tomorrow. Should be a great game, I'll definitely be watching. It's essentially a fourth football league play-off final.
May 2, 201015 yr ^ Absolutely like a play off. This is what I enjoy, things not being settled until the last day of the season. Think there is also the final play off spot to be settled there as well. Carlisle managed a draw and halted their losing streak. I am not too hopeful for the game at Norwich. Wycombe Wanderers are relegated from League One and that was the only thing decided in this division. Lot of possible outcomes for the final promotion spot in League One with all the sides winning except one. League 2, Rotherham have confirmed their play off spot and I think that that is the only one confirmed. Grimsby survive for another week after a 2-0 win over Barnet. Down to three possibles now for relegation from League 2, Grimsby, Barnet and Cheltenham. Crucial Premier League game mid-week in the fight for fourth place on Wednesday. Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur. :w00t:
May 2, 201015 yr Author I hate this Premier League season so much. lose-lose situation. Can't wait for it to be over.
