24 in the 30 for Luxembourg in 1977. A slight mistake the week before omitted Donna Summer`s "I Feel Love". All of a sudden the next week, she was back in the top 10. Elvis dead, and reigning supreme. Lucky this kept the terrible Floaters at 2 "Can-cer, and my name is Ralph". So much better put by the Barron Knights "Can-cer, and my name is Larry. Guess what? I don`t like girls, and if anyone touches the drummer, I`ll scratch his eyes out!" Deniece Williams riding a bit to high at Luxy, because she stalled at 8, over on Radio 1. Space would have made #1, if it hadn`t been for Elvis...a haunting instrumental, and not that far away was the other big instumental by Jean Michel Jarre "Oxygene Part 4"...This went on to become the theme to TV series "Where There`s Life". Candi Staton got a 2nd top 10 hit with the Bee Gees penned "Nights On Broadway". Brotherhood Of Man`s "Angelo" became another song parody by the Barron Knights..."Long ago, outside a chip shop in Walthamstow!" Carly Simon had a hit every 5 years, or there abouts in 72/77/82. Donna Summer rapidly followed "I Feel Love" with the theme to Peter Benchley`s "The Deep". The Rods were Eddie And The Hotrods. Showaddywaddy were keeping their pockets full, by doing re-makes constantly. Steve Gibbons covered another oldie with "Tulane". Thin Lizzy were finding it difficult to make the top 10. The Dooleys finally scored after years in the clubs. Over to San Francisco for Mink De Ville formed by composer Willy De Ville. Gary Gilmore`s Eyes was based on the Texas murderer (though untrue song) about a recipient ending up with the donated eyes of his. Rita Coolidge did a Boz Scaggs written song "We`re All Alone". David Soul gave us hit 3, and 2nd #1. Elkie Brookes gave us the original of "Sunshine After The Rain". The Jacksons struggled with the forgotten "Dreamer". Bob Geldof got his first hit along with the Boomtown Rats. Four Seasons minus Franki Valli, had a good record that could have done better. Tom Petty didn`t do too well on the singles front. DeEtta Little And Nelson Pigford were probably better remembered as the twosome who did the "Rocky Theme" (Gonna Fly Now). Bruce Johnston (Beach Boys etc), gave us a take on the 1963 hit by the Chantays. "It`s Now Or Never" returned for Elvis. Black Gorilla was an example of the multi-talented John Barrow from Leicester. "Gimme Dat Banana" would maybe not be seen as "pc" today by some...on the other hand some of us, have retained a sense of humour (as well as sense). La Belle Epoque gave us the French/Pigeon English version of the 1966 hit by Los Bravos...Oh how we loved it!

I agree about Jade Ewen (:snif:) but I'd be quite upset if 4ever flopped here, it's one of my favourite songs of all time :o

I really don't want Jade to flop, and I don't think she or the Veronicas deserve to, but 4Ever does seem to be taking off a lot slowe than Untouched...

Thanks Dave

32 NE TAKE ME TO THE HOSPITAL - PRODIGY

I wish, I wish. :snif:

I'm not liking the looks of this chart this week - far too many songs to name look lower than I want them to be. Then again, this chart is very rarely accurate.

Yeah I don't think either The Prodigy could be in the top 40 without downloads (only around #120-130 on iTunes) The physicals doesn't do any difference anymore :(

Or JayZ maybe #1 on iTunes :P

I take the point about the multiple formats. It's going to be an interesting week :D

This is why I think Jay-Z had got more potential to be #1 this week more than anything, some singles don't improve much on physical release, but in Sugababes case they are releasing on both formats this week, I think physicals are going to let them down from getting a #1.

Just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow, the way I see things at the moment Sugababes will probably be #1 tomorrow, later in the week Jay Z & Co. will take the #1 spot.

Got to end with Cliff And The Shadows "Singing The Blues"....A challenger for top spot on Sunday 20th Sept, honest:

No way on earth, are you seriously telling me it has 80000 pre-orders!? I think not.

I echo that, I bet my white underpants on it. :P

No way on earth, are you seriously telling me it has 80000 pre-orders!? I think not.

I don't doubt Dave's wisdom on this. It maybe has 10K of pre-orders so far and as much again by the release date meaning it will likely sell over 50K for the week.

Dave gives very good information and I for one will not dismiss it lightly.

Gutted about the Prodigy. Were hoping the would leap up itunes because of Leeds/Reading Fest, as they were mint, and this is one of there best tracks

50K - will not be enough to get it to number one though?

Therefore. No chance - as I said.

He doesn't say it will be #1 only that it's a challenger - "A challenger for top spot on Sunday 20th Sept, honest"

"A challenger for top spot on Sunday 20th Sept, honest"

When it debuts at #7 and subsequently falls out of the top 40 the week after I'm going to put that quote in my signature. :D :P
