Elsiane are a Canadian/Peruvian trip hop band, Shackles are a Norwegian girl group who came 2nd in Norway's X Factor recently

here they perform Quotosibb XVI - note who their mentor was in the competititon

Shackles! It is Breaking The Silence that you're considering though isn't it? They really should have won, it's nice to see a girlband which can sing for once. :kink: I won't comment on which you should send because Rontvian discoveries always triumph over those that I already know, trip hop sounds rather different. :P

so to herald in the new decade, FSR Rontvia have been deciding between two songs to become our 23rd entry into the Buzzjack Song Contest. Elsiane's 2007 song Vaporous, also briefly in contention for XVIII, has once again been narrowly pipped to the post as it was felt that 2010 should be launched by looking forward, not looking back. Breaking The Silence by Norwegian girl group Shackles, managed by former twice Rontvian entrant Mira Craig, has been chosen - marking the first girl group to represent FSR Rontvia as well as being FSR Rontvia's first slower entry since Sibel's Make Believe finished 5th in BJSCV!!! The song can be heard below;

FSR Rontvia; bjsc_twentyfour//

After 2nd, 8th, 5th and 10th places scored in the last four contests, FSR Rontvia are looking to improve on Shackles' placing in the twenty fourth edition of the Buzzjack Song Contest, to be held in Quotosibb. It has been stressed that song quality must not be compromised and a good result is only ever a bonus of sending a good song - nothing should be more important than the song choice, and originality and inspiration remain the key focus in FSR Rontvia, over good results. RTVN Spokeswoman Eva María Jónsdóttir said 'FSR Rontvia strive to send the most interesting, quirky and original songs that they can find to the BJSC and this is and must always remain the key focus - the countries that TRY to do well month after month often end up failing anyway, the key to FSR Rontvia's success is to stay loyal to what the public want and never compromise originality with wanting to do well'. RTVN Head of inspiration Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir added 'With 16 top ten hits out 23 entries to the BJSC, we are overjoyed and extremely grateful that whatever we've been doing ever since the third contest seems to by and large still be working - and despite a dramatic rise in cheap and pointless entries in the last year or so, we will not let ourselves feel that we have to send these sorts of entries to the contest in order to get a good result. Rather an original 10th place than a cheap victory or 2nd place'.

Leisha Hailey, of duo Uh Huh Her who stormed to an unlikely victory in XIV with Not A Love Song said 'it was an amazing feeling to win this thing for FSR Rontvia, I've spoken to Beautiful Small Machines and they feel the same way. This contest is usually about the hottest hits and the freshest leaks and we were not expecting our year old subtle electro song to have taken the victory in the face of cheap in that contest.' Eva María Jónsdóttir added 'yes, we were proud to win with Sara Bareilles but the song was already US top 5 hit so it was likely that many people might have already heard the song beforehand - Robots In Love and Not A Love Song were moments of immense pride for the nation - we didn't think that entries such as these could still reign supreme in this contest and it is why we will continue our mission to find a winning song without comprimising our originality - if it takes another 30 contests to win again, so be it'.

FSR Rontvia have come under fire from certain nations in recent months for reverting to their old throwaway scandi-pop ways with Anna Abreu, Caroline Jonsson and Shackles. All three artists managed top ten hits, but it's felt that they lacked the originality of artists such as Blank feat Young Ivy, Example, Beautiful Small Machines and Uh Huh Her. FSR Rontvia take on board all consturctive criticism and suggestions from outsiders and will be looking for slightly more interesting entries over the next few months. But Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir added 'what can we say, we love our Scandi-pop and will almost inevitably slip back to it every now and then - it's one of the biggest selling genres in FSR Rontvia and we always like the public to have a say in our entry'. More details on FSR Rontvia's entry to twentyfour// are expected to be published in the coming weeks with an internal selection looking likely this month.

Looking forward to it :cheer:

Four acts will compete to become the entrant for FSR Rontvia's 24th BJSC entry - more details will come later but the five songs are all said to retain Rontvia's pop sensibilities whilst moving away from the generic Scandi sound of Caroline Jonsson and Shackles with no Swedes or Norwegians involved this time around

we are confident that all four of these acts won't have been heard of by anybody else in the competition before...

Ooh, that's quite the claim! :o You haven't been looking over Music Week CDs again, have you?

There is far MORE than Music Week CDs Aaron believe me

Yes, but there's always a chance that someone will have heard of them with the huge variety of taste here. You've got Ben, then you've got the Eurocheese fans who know of the artists he has no interest in.

I can confirm that I haven't :w00t: I went back to those CD's after Untouched's success but everything else on there definitely had no BJSC potential (i.e. was awful)

I guess a couple of people could have heard of a couple of them but there are two songs at least that I'm certain that nobody will have heard...they were so elusive to track down in fact that it took me about 3 hours last night to even find a stream to be able to rip an MP3 :drama: South African songs are damn hard to find on the internet :kink:

I know exactly what you mean about finding SA songs ugh :hithead: Lavuvuzela by a country mile and I'm not being biased because their South African, but the song is electroperfection. Really loving their second single it just debuted on our charts hopefuly it goes top 10 since Be Mine Tonight went to #1 last year. They could be our next Girls Aloud seeing Jamali have sort-of flopped with their current era. A Little Obsessed broke their top 10 record. Lolz seems like every country has their own Girls Aloud-like band. .

Kath, another song I was trying to find from that chart you posted was Lize - Do You Love Me, but I can't find it ANYWHERE, not even a clip or a stream, have you heard it?
Yes. I actually REALLY like it, it's sort-of simple R&B pop. She came 7th or something in our last Idol competition. You should really listen to our new SA Idol winner, Sasha-Lee she is amazing all her songs are on her myspace.

I read reviews of it and it sounded like my sort of thing but the song doesn't appear to be anywhere  :( I remember how long it took me to finally find Jody - perhaps I should just move to SA and be done with it :heehee: will give Sasha-Lee a listen :D

Of those I'm only familiar with La Vuvuzela (I think that's the right spelling, I think you've added an extra 'v') I'm not so keen on that particular song though, I much prefer another track of their's, 'In Stereo' although that might be a bit too generic to do well. In fact I think I reserved them for the last contest, maybe I would have been better off sending them. :P I'm interested by your other contenders though, Stella is sounding the best from the description but you should never judge a book by it's cover etc etc. :P

I found In Stereo a bit bland - love this song though, you're right I did add an extra 'V', have edited

nothing's set in stone yet, it's still very much a four horse race :D Stella's song is quite early Lily Allen-ish...not sure how it would fare but it's insanely infectious
