An interesting piece of information has been revealed in the Rontvian tabloid, the Daily Ront today. Here is the article

Andreas was a joke

Andreas Johnson's Glorious, long seen as the odd one out in the Rontvian cannon of BJSC entries for being cheap, uninspired and un-Ashton friendly, has been declared the most shameful Rontvian entry to date in a public poll raking in 85.6% of the votes despite coming 8th in BJSC III and giving FSR Rontvia our first ever top ten finish in the competition. The UK #4 single from 2000 won the poll by a landslide with V entry, Sibel's Make Believe, coming in second place with the remaining 14.4% of the votes. The other 19 eligible songs got no votes at all and proved that 8th place in the BJSC is the place of shame for FSR Rontvia with both songs finishing their, and both from Melodifestivalen losers. This was the Rontvian official top 50 singles chart at the time of Glorious being chosen as the country's entry to III;

Sources have exclusively revealed that the song that was pushed aside in favour of Andreas Johnson was the then #19 song, Can't Touch It by Ricki-Lee, which arguably would have been a more satisfactory and less shameful entry for the country...whether it would have received points from Ashton is another matter altogether...the controversy continues...

Ricki-Lee - Can't Touch It (pushed aside at the last minute)

Yeah, that would have been amazing :( You could always send it for XXII :kink:

There's some great music coming out of Australia now, shame it's not as successful in the UK as it used to be (Veronicas excepted).

it's a bit old now to me now :heehee:

one of those 'it's now or never' entries, which turned out to be never :(

shame the song got completely butchered when it was released here as 'U Wanna Little Of This' :snif:

Really? I never heard that :o
  • Author

it came out on Hed Kandi last summer and flopped hard, and deserved to, it cut away all the good bits of the song and turned it into generic house

Meh. Definitely prefer the original. And I don't know why all radio edits of dance songs are 2:30 lately, it's too short :( Seems like her single Wiggle It was promoed here too, but I don't know if it got an official release.

I know :/ it's like they think that the British audiences can't handle anything over 3 minutes long, we clearly have such short attention spans

Release Me >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Release Me (UK Radio Edit)

Sure is - did you see the new US video? :wub:

My respect for Rontvia just dropped...

The Rontvian Independent has reacted furiously at this poll, calling it biased and not using a large enough sample of the public. Robert Svennson, the editor of the respected newspaper, said the following 'we are absolutely disgusted at this story. It is yet more bias and bile from The Daily Ront. They only asked 30 teenage girls from a high school in Constarvan...hardly the audience that Andreas Johnson attracts! If you look at the sales of the tracks, those that performed least well in the weekly Rontvian Hit Parade were Untouched's Smack Me and Thermostatic's Driving, so if anything should be called the weak links of Rontvia, then those are the songs that the finger should be pointed at. The BJSC is obviously a huge part of all of our lives, dominating the charts and airwaves each month and scandals surrounding the contest are always rife in FSR Rontvia, but I have never seen anything like this. If Ricki-Lee had been good enough, she would have been selected at the time. The real question surrounding III is why on earth was Sara Bareilles not picked for that contest instead of the following one when she had been sitting pretty inside the Rontvian top three for well over a month at this point'. The drama continues...

To answer the DailyRont's question.

Yes.

If that had been entered it would be straight points for Rontvia from I-XX [12 excepted due to DNQ and being in other semi, would have got em tho]

Smack Me is the second highest selling BJSC entry in Ashton just behind Colour Me Dirty

FSR Rontvia would like to thank everybody who voted for their entries to ensure that we have five songs out of thirty in the Best Of XI-XX competition. This is an absolutely incredible result for which we are eternally grateful :D

Uh Huh Her, Emiliana Torrini, Beautiful Small Machines, Anna Abreu and The Sound of Arrows have all been hailed national heroes in the Rontvian media this evening

FSR Rontvia would like to thank everybody who voted for them in the best of, well done to all five acts for reaching the final, to Uh Huh Her for managing not to come last, to Emiliana for managing to miss the top ten by a whisker despite only coming 6th in its original contest, to Beautiful Small Machines for living up to the high standards I hoped they would achieve in the best of

but the biggest congratulations to the newly appointed Duchess of Klurren, Anna Abreu, who exceeded all expectations by finishing 5th with Music Everywhere, finishing 26 places in front of the song that beat it only two months ago, Alphabeat's The Spell :drama:

Congrats in TBO :wub: shame Uh Huh Her didn't do so well, but we are glad we could support our favourite entries from XI-XX

cryptic clues to the five songs FSR Rontvia aim to reserve this evening;

-18 in my current YTD, her first #1 in 9 years :o

-a song by an artist who has seen the BJSC top ten before, and is currently occupying a significant position in the charts of an influential country

-a song so catchy that it won't leave your head, but may have the Headhunted/Music Everywhere opinion dividing effect

-a song that was probably submitted to Melodifestivalen 2009 but wasn't picked for the final 32

-a song by somebody with a Melodifestivalen 2010 link
