September 5, 200915 yr I don't think Alphabeat are quite right to win this month - the new single isn't quite on par with their best and so I think people will hestitate before scorign it highly. This month I expect will go to Rontvia again - It's a relatively catchy song which isn't necessarily an obvious winner but which will be universally liked by most typical BJSC participants
September 5, 200915 yr :kink: The FSR Rontvia Supporters Club [aka Ashton] agrees that they could walk away with win #4. Music Everywhere is amazing @Tyron, yeah this will be #4
September 5, 200915 yr The Spell is absolutely divine 80s-inspired pop at its best, I totally don't get the hatahs :( Then again I don't at all understand where the haters for The Sound of Arrows are coming from either...which is VERY odd as I had it down as a massively popular track, and I have never been so confident about two tracks doing well before without being right :o So either my calling skills are dying as time goes on or the hatahs are just disproportionately loud :kink:

September 5, 200915 yr I swear, if 80s-influenced pop is dying JUST as it was getting severely amazing I will be incredibly pissed off :( Retro soul-pop got THREE DAMNED YEARS (two of which it was actually good for) and the aftertaste is still lingering now with the odd flop. The 80s revival cannot be dying off after just over half a year
September 5, 200915 yr Well it's probably a year since the Little Boots demos and early mumbles about La Roux, I really hope I'm wrong tho... If I'm right I'll just have to go back to listening to actual 80s music :nocheer:
September 5, 200915 yr I can't see La Roux drastically changing their style, it might just be that we have to wait until their new material comes out or for the copycat acts to come though in Jan/Feb
September 5, 200915 yr I don't think there is an end coming for 80s pop at all! It's in its prime!! Give it a couple more years at least as people are only just starting to get into it! But as Phil says, the copycat artists will arrive and something new and more left of centre will come along ^_^
September 6, 200915 yr There will always be a copycat. The exec's can't help themselves :heehee: The 'next' Duffy would be amazing. quite excited at what some of these copycats will come up with. And obv Cilmi's return is gonna be amazing

And obv Cilmi's return is gonna be amazing Is she going down the 80s route then? :o Tbh I was talking about 80s pop being over in BJSC, not in general  It would explain how the divine Ms Boots is semi-flopping tho :(

Lessons To Be Learned is sensational. and then of course there is Non Ti Aspettavo  Ah. The predominant genre changes frequently. Indie/RnB/Electropop/Retro/Fempop etc......
September 6, 200915 yr Indie has never been a predominant genre in the BJSC :o We've had three distinct eras in the BJSC: I-V/VI: cheap/singer-songwriter VI/VII-XI/XII: leaks, fempop, cheap/singer-songwriter dying off but still influential XII/XIII-present: electrofempop, scandipop

September 6, 200915 yr I've never known them as 'the good old days' tbh :( I just prefer to think of it as a different contest :drama: II was the only one really at all equivalent to what we see today, and it was a bit crap quality-wise as well. Cheap as :( I'll take pre-Untouched (I love how I managed to invent that phrase :heehee:), although thinking about it we're REALLY due a genre shift some point soon. I predict after TBO... And you may have crashed out of an indie-heavy semi, but we can't blame it on that necessarily :o I thought the indies would be all over Dead Disco with powah powah, but it seemed not :(
September 6, 200915 yr BAH THIS IS AWFUL. (imagine if I DNQ'd) I'm not even joking when I say the few songs I really loved in this contest didn't make it: 12 Skall 10 Greenfroze 08 Kingdom Of Shadow 07 MKL 04 People's Republic Of Jester My top 4 in my semi. Gone. Those were the only songs I was really happy to vote for. My 1-6 points were good, but not the sort of stuff I'd usually vote for in the final. Then, the very few songs I liked from semi 2 also DNQ'd. Cadbury, Mdice, BaNG and Camdonia were among stand outs from that group and none made it. :nocheer: But seriously this finale is $h!t regardless of whether or not I was in it. :/ BJSC has had iffy stuff in the finals before but this one is so incredibly disappointing and lacks any real quality tbh. I don't want any song in the final to win really. Maybe Sound of Arrows? The Utopia track is nice. I actually agree and I'm in the final. I can't find a single song that I feel is worthy of my 12. There are songs I like, but someone is going to get an undeserved 12 from me this month. BJSC has hit new lows.

One pop fan instead of one of the indie countries and i'd have been through. :drama: Dead Disco was 'gasmic btw. They were the 'Good Old Days' for some results wise. My best results straddled both the pre and post untouched era's. I think we could see it as early as XXI, but for sure by XXII. I can't see it being any longer than that for our plans have their effect.
September 6, 200915 yr Oddly enough I was reflecting a few months ago that, La Roux aside, I'd REALLY fallen from grace since Camille :o If we ignore my DNQs I'm actually in an Angelicland-esque golden age at the moment what with all my top fives in the last half a year :drama: I actually agree and I'm in the final. I can't find a single song that I feel is worthy of my 12. There are songs I like, but someone is going to get an undeserved 12 from me this month. BJSC has hit new lows. WHAT DID I SAY? :funky: Every six contests and there's a bad one, I did warn you all :drama: HOWEVER, experience does dictate that XXI will be an absolute stormer of a contest. IX brought us Margaret Berger, and XV was just plain astounding in terms of quality

IX brought us Margaret Berger, and XV was just plain astounding in terms of quality  I know, but I thought it was meant to be uber cheap ever six contests?! This month only has two (or three depending) it's just a lot of unknown rubbish. :drama: Ooh yes, hopefully it'll be a Quotosibb win (rather than FSR Rontvia) as we all know the best contests are hosted by Quotosibb. (and Rich hosts the forgettable/weak ones) :kink:
September 6, 200915 yr Uber-cheap and/or poor, take your pick :smoke: We actually did the good thing and knocked out some of the uber-cheap in the semis so WOOO there, although we have some fairly cheap and uber-cheap in the final also. I wouldn't say it's all RUBBISH, it's just a lot of it is really, really generic. And HUSHYUHMUH. Kopecka are fully hoping to win this and host an amazing contest where there isn't such an obvious winner that the rest of the contest is forgotten like last time :(
