If you’d have told me a decade ago that Kylie, Britney and Madonna would have platinum certified top 10 hits in the 2020s I’d never have believed it!

This country (the legal system, the media and the people!) has a serious problem with admitting when they’re wrong
  3. Yes! I just found it odd that it wouldn’t let me accept the certificate (or whatever it is lol) and left me stuck on the 404 page. I’ve worked out I’ll just have to search Buzzjack.com/forums to let me onto here. Just glad it’s not just me!
  4. I’m not really sure where to post this  For some reason Buzzjack just does not load on my new phone, it gave the “This connection is not found” warning and when I tried to get it to trust the website it just wouldn’t work. Now it’s showing a 404 error. I’m posting from my old phone where it still works. Just an odd issue, I have no idea how to fix it :( Edit: nevermind! For some reason it only works if I type in the URL but without the www

I remember this and not understanding why it didn’t do any better! Janet Jackson’s “Make Me” also only made something like #73 after she performed it there that year, although to be fair it was a mash-up with All For You. It was her first top 100 entry in 3 years and her last one to date so she did see some positive effect. The X Factor wasn’t always a miracle worker, but No Doubt were undoubtedly the biggest losers.

Not necessarily, it performed decently around the world - #34 US, #23 Canada, usually with pre-orders something like that could’ve made top 10 here. There was just absolutely no promotion and radio’s ageism got even worse around that time. If the timing was different and Settle Down got an X Factor performance instead I’m sure it could’ve been a modest hit

The handling of that era was very frustrating. IIRC they never even released Settle Down here, if they’d have performed that instead I imagine it’d have fared a lot better. Then Gwen made the same mistake a few years later by never releasing Baby Don’t Lie here, Fergie got a decent sized hit with L.A Love (thanks to pre-orders), Gwen could’ve at least got a top 20 hit if she bothered to release it here I bet

I don’t know if it’s already been mentioned but No Doubt’s “Looking Hot” comes to mind. It only got to #397 in the charts after an X Factor performance in 2012 when that was basically a guaranteed top 10. Can’t think of a much bigger flop than that.
  9. Agreed. I’ve been somewhat isolated the past 2 months so I’ve only really felt Christmassy this past week. I’m just getting into it and the rest of the country is already over it!
  10. I know I’m just repeating what’s been said for years but Brenda Lee’s success here just feels so artificial. In 2007 and 2008 when Christmas classics first started appearing in the charts again, she was barely scraping the top 100 (#94 in 2007 while Mariah was #4!), it just exposes how… Americanised and standardised Spotify’s playlists are and I wish they didn’t have so much influence on the charts
  11. I think Band Aid 40 will be lucky to make top 40 honestly! Even LadBaby struggled to shift downloads towards the end, unless there’s a massive campaign for Christmas number one (which wouldn’t work anyway considering the release date), I can’t see it. It seems to be a pretty slap dash effort anyway if it’s just a mega mix of the other 3.

I’m surprised SWV’s album wasn’t already silver or even gold? It peaked at #17 in 1993 and spent 18 weeks in the charts!
  13. I don’t see why they wouldn’t want the headline of Kylie getting another top 40, it was a big deal when Dancing got there. I know after getting a top 10 and a top 20 last year they’re probably not that bothered about barely scraping a top 40 but it would look good on paper, and they’d probably sell a bit more physicals if they did co-ordinate it since we know what Kylie fans are like with chart battles :D Just feels like it’s one step forward two steps back with BMG.

    Gwen Stefani #137
  15. If only they could do it in a more timely manner!
