Alecia had many friends growing up, when she was 12 years old she met Jess Lane who says ‘she was always singing’. This was something her friends would have to get used to, as alecia was singing everywhere she went. Alecia was influenced by the 4 Non Blondes a lot and thought of Linda perry as a role model.

When Alecia was in 9th grade she sang solo for ‘bridge over troubled water’. A lot of people tried out for the part but Alecia got the part. People were in shock at the power that came out of her voice. But Alecia never lost her attitude and while she was wearing a lovely dress for the concert, she finished her outfit off with a pair of army boots.

Alecia was well known by her friends and family for having an attitude which often got her into trouble. When she was a teenager she fought a lot with Judy and got into trouble at school. Alecia wasn’t bothered about her homework because she knew she was going to be a rock star and stayed focussed on that.

To prepare herself for when she got discovered she was always writing lyrics and poems. Judy used to worry about these poems as most of the were very dark but she realised that it was Alecia’s outlet to getting these feelings that she had out of her system.

While Alecia was attending school, she and her friends would hang out on the church car park in the morning before school started, smoking and riding skateboards. Aleica fitted right in with a skateboard under her arm and skating with the guys.

Alecia got in trouble many times with the law and had to appear in court. Judy didn’t approve of a lot of the people that Alecia was hanging out with because they would skip school and Alecia would invited them back to her house.

Eventually Alecia got fed up of hanging round the streets of Doylestown and decided she wanted to try out the clubs of Philidephia. She went with her brother and lied to Judy saying that there wasn’t any drugs or alcohol at the clubs. When Alecia was at the clubs she would forget about whatever was bothering her at the moment and have a good time. Alecia often stayed away from home at this time, staying over at friends houses because she didn’t want to go back home. This worried her parents a lot and Jim often went out to try and find her and bring her back home. Judy was finding single parenting extremely hard work and couldn’t control Alecia’s behaviour. They were both finding it very difficult to live together and eventually Judy decided it would be best if alecia went to live with Jim.
