What can only be described as quite possibly the strongest top 5 ever to feature in a TOTB chart is topped off by the Cribs, who spend their second week at the top. But with no fewer than 3 other songs in the top 5 that could potentially reach the top between now and September, a question mark hangs over whether or not they may have spent their last week there. One of those songs gunning for the top is the superb 'Hurricanes' which marks the return of Athlete after a two-year gap. It's up 3 places to settle for 2nd place this week. Another song almost guaranteed to be no.1 in the near future is Kasabian's 'Fast Fuse' which is also the only new entry in this week's chart. 'Fast Fuse' is the lead single from an EP the band are releasing on September 3rd, and sounds unlike anything they have ever produced before. Up until midweek, it didnt look likely i'd hear this until August, but now i've heard it I can say i'm completely addicted. The final song aiming for the no.1 spot is Hard-Fi's 'Suburban Knights' which spends its third week in the top 5 this week, although it has slipped slightly from last week's no.4. It can be certain of at least a top 3 peak.

Outside the top 5 there are still plenty of absolute gems. Maxïmo Park's next release, for example, is arguably one of the strongest of the album, so expect it to keep climbing. The same cannot be said for 'Autumnsong' which suffers a heavy 5 place drop out of the top 5 this week. It should hang around for another few weeks yet though. Everybody else bar the non-moving Arcade Fire have fallen this week, so its business as usual elsewhere.
